Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan is holding an international telethon to raise funds for the flood victims.

In his message at the onset of the telethon, Imran said the objective of holding telethon was to raise funds for flood victims as no government alone can deal with such catastrophe.

“Entire country has been affected by this [floods]… as per initial assessment losses of over Rs1,000 billion incurred due to floods and over 1,000 people have died so far,” he remarked.

He said he received a lot of calls from Pakistanis including expats who wanted to help the flood victims. The former premier said people can donate to two bank accounts opened by Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa governments. The funds will be spent to help the flood-hit people across the country, he assured.

The event was moderated by PTI leader Faisal Javed while chief ministers of Punjab and Kyhber-Pakhtunkhwa — Perviaz Elahi and Mehmood Khan —and the former premier’s ex-assistant on social protection Sania Nishtar were also present on the occasion.

The initial economic losses from floods in Pakistan could reach at least $10 billion, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal told Reuters in an interview earlier today.

Unprecedented and historical flash floods caused by abnormal monsoon rains have washed away roads, crops, infrastructure and bridges, killing at least 1,000 people in recent weeks and affecting more than 33 million.

"I think it is going to be huge. So far, (a) very early, preliminary estimate is that it is big, it is higher than $10 billion," Iqbal said.

The minister said it might take five years to rebuild and rehabilitate the South Asian nation of 200 million people, which will be facing an acute challenge of food shortage.

Whilst the criminals worry about another load of USD 1.16Billion, overseas Pakistanis busy donating to run the country.

PPP Chairman and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has accused former prime minister Imran Khan of exploiting PTI-led governments in Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa to “sabotage” the IMF bailout programme amid devastation caused by floods.

In a series of tweet from his official handle on Monday, Bilawal said raging floods have killed over 1,500 people and affected 33 million people across the country.

“Pakistan is devastated by floods, 1,500+ people killed, 33 million affected, 4 provinces Pakhtunkhwa, south Punjab, Balochistan & Sindh. People have lost everything. Every Pakistani should be doing all they can to help their fellow citizens,” he wrote in a tweet.

He went on to say that former PM Imran chose this moment to exploit his governments in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab to “sabotage our national economic interests!”.

“This is a betrayal of our country & our people. First he entered into deal with the IMF [and] then he almost pushed the country to default to save his PMship,” the PPP chief added.

Bilawal while referring to leaked audio clip in which former finance minister Shukat Tarin allegedly asked K-P Finance Minister Taimur Jhagra and Punjab Finance Minister Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari to “tell the IMF that the commitment made to them cannot be fulfilled” amid heavy losses incurred due to floods.

“[..]K-P finance minister says as a ‘blackmailing tactic’ [while] his Punjab finance minister said this would ‘damage the state’. These instructions passed on by the one who left us on the verge of default,” said the foreign minister.

The PPP chairman said PTI Chairman Imran’s has been “caught corruptly abusing charity donations for his personal and political purposes and exposed in foreign funding case”.

In an attempt to avoid getting caught, Bilawal claimed Imran had been on a relentless campaign against every institution. “That he would sink so low now, was beyond even my expectations.”

“For us, it will always be; #PakistanKhappay. Forever and always.”

Breaking: Telethon donations crossed more than 50 crores.

1.5 billion now..just wondering where zardari is as he could do some donating from his pocket..

No surprise.

I know in the UK many Pakistanis have been lobbying the government over the last week or so. I was happy to know this effort has ensured this.

The UK is providing urgent support to Pakistan after flooding in the south of the country killed at least 900 people. Extreme monsoon rainfall has affected millions, with at least 700,000 homes destroyed.

In response to the disaster, the UK will provide up to £1.5 million for the relief effort. The UN is carrying out a needs assessment over the weekend, and a UN appeal is expected to be launched on Tuesday.

Lord Tariq Ahmad of Wimbledon, Minister of State for South and Central Asia, North Africa, UN and the Commonwealth and the Prime Minister’s Special Representative on Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict, said:

The floods in Pakistan have devastated local communities and the UK is providing up to £1.5 million to help the immediate aftermath. We are witnessing the catastrophe that climate change can cause and how it impacts the most vulnerable.

My thoughts and prayers are with all the victims and their families, and I would like to pay tribute to everyone involved in the relief efforts. We are also working directly with the Pakistan authorities to establish what further assistance and support they require. The UK stands with the people of Pakistan during this time of need.

The UK also provides assistance to Pakistan through international organisations working directly with the victims of the disaster, including the World Bank and the United Nations.

Notes to editors

The £1.5m of humanitarian funding is an allocation from existing support to Pakistan and will go to the relief efforts in the areas worst-hit by the flooding.

The UK pledged over £55m to partner with Pakistan to fight climate change, manage water more sustainably and unlock climate investment in November 2021 during the COP26 Conference in Glasgow. Read more here.

The Global Climate Risk Index report notes that Pakistan has reported 502 deaths and a loss of $3.772 billion as a result of 173 extreme weather events between 2000 and 2019.
Pakistan is among the most disaster-prone countries in South Asia and has suffered an estimated US$18 billion in damages due to disasters during the past decade. This has included: recurrent floods; earthquakes; droughts; and urban shocks (such as heatwaves and dengue). Overall, in Pakistan, 25% of households (49 million people) are estimated to be moderately or severely food insecure, whereas 10% of the households (21 million people) are classified as severely food insecure. The Multi-Dimensional Poverty Index suggests that 36.43 million people are chronically vulnerable.
Pakistan is the eighth most at risk country globally from the impacts of Climate Change (an improvement from fifth most at-risk country in 2020). This year, Pakistan has and is experiencing consecutive extreme climactic events. The country moved directly from winter into summer temperatures with a number of extreme heat waves, causing rapid glacial flash floods and forest fires.
During the 2020 floods in Pakistan, the UK announced a £800,000 aid package through the National Disaster Consortium (NDC) and provided immediate relief in rural Sindh where many had lost their homes. It also provided life-saving clean water, sanitation, and shelter to over 55,000 vulnerable people in Pakistan to help them recover from the devastating floods.

Any way to donate from UK bank Account transfer

Atleast from states that’s not possible but WU, Remitly all allow the transfer to Banks.(atleast for states)

The easiest way for British to do it is Muslim Aid UK(not Imran’s though).. you can donate in pounds directly for the flood.

I asked my missus relative in PK to donate on my behalf in PK and I said I will sort out here. It would be much more convenient to have a UK sort code and Acc number.

Hope he isnt a PLMN or PPP supporter ;)

You always dontate to Pakistan for various issues, may you be rewarded by the Almighty.

I would have thought IK's cancer charity may have asked for donations, I always use them.

good job, using his fame for the good, at the end the money should be used in the relief of the affecters no matter who is donating.

Hopefully this time around the money goes directly for the purpose it was intended to and not fund his own election campaign. But knowing what he did with Shaukat Khanum funds, you never know.

How much did your heros Zardari and Bilo raise? How much did you donate to their bank account, i mean fund?

you can write to AGPR and ask them about the flood relief account that was made by Sindh govt. This is not a time to do your political competitiveness. I know you dont care about the people that have died or homes destroyed in floods. You would prefer that politics is played through these deaths.

All political parties failed. Imran, Zardari, or Shebaz can donate as much as they want but each one of them failed to protect their province. 5 people got swept away because KPK govt couldn't provide them a helicopter, even though they waited for 5 hours on a stranded rock.

People are also reluctant to donate money due to either parties funneling those rupees for their election campaign, or they are miss-represented just like the dam fund.

The only reason why Rawalpindi is safe from flooding is because PTI was removed right on time and a dumb project they were gonna get made on Nullah leh wasnt initiated.

Why so sensitive? #bilo

I have better things to do but IK's telethon raised Rs500cr so as a fanatic supporter of PPP, im merely asking how much did they raise? Surely you are privy to this , even if the world is not?

Did you donate to IK's or Zardaris appeal? Please post a link to Zardaris appeal so people can donate if they are blind. Thanks

I would never donate to a political party or the govt knowing how they meddle with money.

For me to donate there is Edhi and JDC out there

Do you have a link to Bilo or Zardaris fund raising for floods? I want to see how much they claim to have raised.

then you should and you must donate to this govt because you believe they are excellent in money management, no?
Now that the PTI is out, aren't the angels running the govt? What happened?

you can go make a thread on it, no need to hijack this with the usual pti vs Govt topic.

No political party or govt should be trusted with donations. I saw the dam fund also saw the shaukat khanum fund. Lesson learned

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former premier Imran Khan on Monday held an international telethon to raise funds from within the country and overseas Pakistanis for the flood victims.

According to Senator Faisal Javed Khan, who moderated the event, the former prime minister collected over Rs5 billion in donations in 3 hours long flood telethon.

Chief ministers of Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa — Pervaiz Elahi and Mahmood Khan — former premier’s ex-assistant on social protection Sania Nishtar, celebrities, and other politicians joined Imran Khan’s telethon.

Speaking during Live Telethon which was telecast by a number of TV channels, including ARY News, the PTI chief said entire Pakistan had been affected by the floods generated by back-to-back monsoon rains. He said more than 1000 people died due to devastating floods and the damages are expected to cross Rs1,000 billion.

He said that the country would have to construct more dams to save people from such devastation in future. “The sole solution to prevent the catastrophes caused by flood is to construct dams.”

During the transmission, President and CEO of ARY Digital Network, Mr. Salman Iqbal, announced a donation of Rs30 million for the rehabilitation of flood affectees.

While praising Mr Iqbal, Imran Khan said that Salman Iqbal has always come forward to help the people in need despite the suspension of ARY News transmission on cable.

The PTI chairman said that he will also make efforts for the restoration of ARY News transmission just like he is struggling for real independence besides assisting the flood victims across the country.

British-Pakistani boxer Amir Khan also joined the telethon and announced Rs5 million for flood victims. Prime Minister Azad Jammu and Kashmir Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan, who attended PTI’s live telethon transmission, announced Rs30 million for flood affectees.

Senior journalist Sabir Shakir announced Rs500,000 donations for the flood-affected people.

The overseas Pakistanis participated in the telethon and spoke directly to Imran Khan via telephonic calls to offer their donations for the flood-hit victims.

Floods death toll nears 1100

Tens of millions of people across swathes of Pakistan were battling the worst monsoon floods in a decade, with countless homes washed away, vital farmland destroyed, and the country’s main river threatening to burst its banks.

According to NDMA data, over 1000 people have died since June when the seasonal rains began, but the final toll could be higher as hundreds of villages in the mountainous north have been cut off after flood-swollen rivers washed away roads and bridges.

They won't. Why is Khan doing this stuff..where is the federal govt? They are knowhere..only good for giving statements to their western media supporters..otherwise all I hear is showbaaz looking like a small man begging for help..compare this to Khan's management of a pandemic..no comparison. Regular briefings..regular updates..uniting the country.

These pdm choars are probably happy as this natural disaster will slow down khan's tehreek and give them time to go after him again.2 their unpur jahil godfather sitting in Mayfair wants to come back and has made it personal. What a useless govt and their jahil supporters..

Knowing how things work in Pakistan, and how corrupt the people in power are, there will be huge commissions, kick backs, haram khori and frauds to skim lots n lots of money from these donations - and not that I am discouraging anyone from donating, but that’s the sad reality is; this is how things work in Pakistan.
I have personally witnessed frauds and kick backs and haram khori within the staff of Edhi foundation. There are illegal commissions and kick backs worth millions when goods are purchased in bulk.

Poor Edhi and now IK can’t do it all by themselves - so they have to rely on others. And that’s where our true colors are shown.

Frauds in Covid 19 funding and frauds behind the healthcare card system are no mystery to anyone. There is a deeply rooted element of corruption in our dna.

Kaash Pakistanis were an honest nation!

Correctly making use of all this money is much more difficult then collecting it. The problem is that their are many traitors and back stabbers within the PTI who will and can loot the money. There is not much IK can do here unless he distributes everything himself which is equally impossible.

Dr Nishtar has an excellent rep and she will do a good job. No one can vouch for all the money reaching the helpless people because we know it won't. But we trust Kaptaan and we trust Dr Nishtar. On the other hand, can anyone trust the mafia? Does do the Question even need a reply.

BTW
Why do you think IK Telethon was taken off air with the cable companies blackening out his telethon shown on Geo, ARY etc and there being no mention companies like Geo. Who could have done such an evil thing?

This imported crooks have done everything they could against Kaptaan but the more they try, they more they are hated. We know now the mafia channels and when Kaptaan comes back, they will have to pay a price.

Coz where as no one doubts IK's sincerity it is his coworkers that will continue to let him down. Obviously it can only be on the command of the current government that coverage of his Telethon was discontinued from airing. IK is neither a hawk nor a dove as per the title of a Pak book.

Most of the money will not reach the most needy even if there are a few good apples within the PTI.

I disagree with most of the money not reaching the needy. I certainly wouldn't give a penny if that was the case. It's nonsense to suggest that Dr Nishtar and the people with her a corrupt and will steal the money. If some does go missing it will be further down the food chain. Let us worry about our money, it's not the taxpayers money, it's our money. We trust in Kaptaan and his team

It is perfect sense that many within the PTI are not loyal to IK. You seem to have some kind of unhealthy obsession with this Dr Nishtar? I have contributed a small amount for the simple reason that I don't trust any Pak politician including IK. He too promised so much yet all we got was excuses during his PM tenure as to why he couldn't deliver. How do you know who is and isn't contributing financially to the floods when some people choose to keep such things private? Another thing is that many are contributing through other means and organisations. The world nor Pakistan revolves around your Imran Khan.

Why can IK and PTI supporters never tolerate even a word against him? When someone says anything against him they are accused of being a Nawaz, Shahbaz or Zardari supporter. Why is IK beyond criticism?

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday said the government was busy rehabilitating flood victims and did not have time for PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s “accusations and misunderstandings”.

A day ago, the PTI chief had asked the prime minister on Twitter if he was responsible for a string of recent alleged actions against the PTI, including silencing it on the media, registering cases against pro-PTI journalists, “blacking it out” on social media or stopping the telecast of the party’s flood donation telethon.

“We know that your criminal followers and their patrons are afraid of the PTI’s popularity. If you are not responsible for usurping our constitutional rights and deviating from international commitments regarding freedom of expression and press, then it is your responsibility to tell the nation who is responsible for all this,” Imran had said.

Replying directly to Imran today, PM Shehbaz said: “Our government is currently busy with the rehabilitation of the flood victims, so there is no time for your accusations and misunderstandings.”

He expressed hope that the PTI chief would give an account of “every single penny” raised in the telethon as well as the donations gathered during the 2010 floods as “I and my colleagues have always given”.

Regarding Imran’s allegations of suppressive actions, Shehbaz said such methods and restrictions were the “PTI’s tactics and not ours”. “We are only following the path of the law and the Constitution,” he added.

A day ago, the PTI had slammed the government for allegedly blocking the transmission of the telethon that the party had arranged on Sunday night for collecting donations from overseas Pakistanis and announced its decision to challenge the government’s move before the Islamabad High Court.

A day earlier, Memon claimed the former ruling party hatched a heinous conspiracy by allegedly spreading "fake pictures" of relief goods for flood-affected people.

The provincial minister was referring to a viral image of flour donated by the UK being sold in Sindh. However, soon after the picture went viral, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued a clarification, saying Pakistan did not receive any aid from UK containing flour bags.

In today’s presser, Memon alleged that PTI Chairman Imran Khan was behind the campaign, appealing the top court to take notice of the “disgusting campaign”.

“Completely ban the PTI’s social media wing as it along with Imran Khan has become a security risk for the country,” he remarked.

Memon lashed out at the opposition party for resorting to “enmity” against state and people by sending a message to the world to stop sending flood-aid for political gains.

The PPP minister called upon the institutions to take PTI to task as per the law, saying the country could face a major crisis if foreign aid halted.

He particularly asked the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Supreme Court, federal government and interior ministry to take immediate notice of the issue.

This thug should be in jail. They have looted trillions from Sindh for 14 years and now they are worried that Kaptaan is coming for them.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chief (PTI) Chief Imran Khan announced to hold a third flood relief telethon on Sunday at 9 pm, ARY News reported.

The PTI Chief said that they are collecting donations for flood-affected people of the country and urged people to donate as much as they can for their fellow men. They have collected over Rs10 billion in the first two telethons, he added.

The former premier added that they will have extra phone lines so that maximum people can call and donate to affected people.

In the second telethon last Sunday, the PTI Chairman collected a total of Rs5 billion for flood-affected people.

The PTI Chief said that Pakistan contributes less than 1% to the global carbon footprint but we are among the most affected countries by climate change. We have pushed ourselves into calamity by not building more dams, said Imran Khan.

Over 33 million people have been severely affected by the floods, situations worse than the 2010 floods, the PTI Chief said at the start of the telethon. The nation would have to come together in this difficult time, he added.

Imran Khan raises Rs3.5 for flood-victims in third Telethon

ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran khan has held third telethon to raise funds for flood-victims, raising Rs3.5 billion rupees.

A total of Rs10 billion were collected in previous two telethons, the PTI chairman said.

The former premier assured donors his party will devise a digital system to distribute the funds.

“We will be using these funds in a transparent manner with a digital system.” Khan said.

He noted how his government’s Ehsaas program remained the best social government program because of transparency.

Earlier, Dr Sania Nishtar informed the gathering that a digitalized system had been introduced to ensure transparency in the distribution of funds.

The PTI chairman lamented Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for being on foreign tours during devastating floods in the country. “This is insensitive from the prime minister to go abroad as the country drowns,” Khan added.

Moreover, the PTI chief repeated his demand for new elections during a meeting with members of the Punjab cabinet as he linked the snap polls with the “betterment of the country” rather than his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Mr. Khan congratulated Punjab ministers on their victory in the by-election on July 17 and declared that the PTI will achieve its goal of new general elections through its “peaceful battle” during the meeting at the Punjab House in Islamabad.

During the meeting, the topics of political personalities being victimized, media restrictions, and human rights breaches were discussed. The coalition partners also resolved to intensify their cooperation during the meeting and made the decision to deal with the issues made by the province MPs in a priority manner.

Funds For Flood-Hit Pakistan May Run Out In January, Says UN

The United Nations today said emergency food aid for devastated flood-hit communities in Pakistan would run out in January after a funding appeal received only a third of its target.

Pakistan was lashed by unprecedented monsoon rains over the summer that put a third of the country underwater, damaged two million homes and killed more than 1,700 people.

"It is a big concern for us to ensure food security in the coming days and weeks for the people affected by rains," UN Resident Coordinator for Pakistan Julien Harneis told a press conference in the capital.

The UN had appealed for more than $816 million but said its agencies and other NGOs have only received $262 million from international donors.

"It is deeply worrying as other emergency responses around the world get a far higher percentage of response and we're not getting that financing here," Harneis added.

The UN's World Food Programme will run out of funds for Pakistan on January 15, said the director of its mission in the country Chris Kaye.

"We have a major and frankly, I think, very serious crisis ahead of us as we go into 2023 unless we get the required support," he added.

The number of people in need of life-saving food assistance will grow from the four million previously identified to 5.1 million during the winter, said Kaye.

Between eight million and nine million have been pushed below the poverty line by the floods.

The monsoon washed away vast tracts of crops, with many already impoverished families losing their livelihoods.

While most of the floodwater has receded, some homes remain submerged, leaving families living on elevated roads or in displacement camps.

Some people have been pushed into child labour, child marriage or trafficking, the UN said.

Pakistan places highly in rankings of nations vulnerable to extreme weather caused by climate change but is responsible for less than one percent of global greenhouse gasses.

Well done, Imran Khan.

That's a lot of money. May it benefit those who deserve it.
