ISLAMABAD: The secretariat of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday referred the matter of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan’s controversial vote casting to the chief election commissioner (CEC), sources told Geo News.

“The CEC and ECP members will decide on whether a notice should be issued to the PTI chief over the matter,” sources said.

The sources added that the video of Imran casting his vote in front of the media has also been sent to the ECP high-ups.

Section 185 of the Election Act states that a person can be given a six-month jail sentence and/or fine of Rs1,000 for not casting their vote in secrecy.

Media reports stated that Imran cast his vote in violation of ECP rules.

TV footage showed the PTI chief stamping the ballot paper in full public view at the presiding officer's table instead of inside the polling booth in secret.

There is also a video of Hafiz Saeed doing the same.

I hope he is also pursued.

6 months prison is clearly OTT but I do hope IK is brought to book here and given a telling off.

Follow rules, not asking for much.

Wait, so what is IMran guilty of?

Did he stamp his vote infront of the camera? Because stamping and then folding needs to be done behind that cutboard.

A TV channel was saying that Imran brought the wrong set of glasses or didn't bring glasses at all (I can't remember exactly) so he needed the presiding officer's help to be sure he was stamping the correct symbol.

Ehh...sounds like the PR machine is hard at work fire-fighting this.

Probably. It's not too big an issue but Imran should get a telling off for this, maybe asked to give a public apology.

I just saw a few pictures of Shebaz casting his vote in the same manner. So this won't become an issue I think.

Imran not at fault for ballot mistake, PTI’s Faisal Javed says
PTI leader Faisal Javed, while defending the party chairman, said that Imran was not at fault for the mistake during casting his vote.

He stated that media personnel were present there and it was the job of the polling station’s staff to stop them.

There is absolutely no logic behind this at all.

The ECP are making themselves look like a bunch of idiots in this. At the end of the day its their job to make sure voting takes place smoothly and if they were doing their job in the first place then this would not have gotten so far.
