Imran Khan gives 6-day deadline to govt for announcing polls, warns he'll 'return' to capital

Jalsas and protests are not leading indicator of election results. 2013 is good indicator. Plus it's foolhardy to think that these are free and fair elections. Establishment will decide who takes iron throne under their shadow.

ok sir we have seen all of them. You think we don't know the ground realities. Even someone with blind eyes will accept that there is huge difference between 2013 jalsa and these.no comparison at all. Elections at this time and PMLN will get about 25 to 30 NA seats at max but it can be 60 if they drag it to next august but again depends on price hikes and other things.

And I think PMLN does not like to take help from establishment in elections hahha.

So after running away from the “long march” which proved to be the shortest march in memory, he ran away from a press conference because he didn’t like the questions that were asked from him, in fact, he couldn’t answer the questions so he had to storm out.

It seems that he only wants questions from ARY and that too after they run the script by him first.

Did you hear that question?

It was rude and not a question but a statement - For a former PM, Imran was very reserved and polite. Anyone else would have shut the guy up in 2 secs.

Also note that this news was only reported by "friends" in GEO - which speaks volumes.

Also suggest you fix this "run away" narrative soon as its getting repetitive

Its been explained many times about the reasons why it was stopped.

Incase you missed it - We are dealing with a pack of animals in the Govt so Imran took the wise decision of saving lives and stopped it. This has been explained many times.

One wonders how what is crystal clear, has been documented, broadcasted and witnessed - yet some refuse to call it out for what is.

Some would prefer their brothers and sisters to be killed and maimed - by a murderous, authoritarian regime rather than go against the incompetent, corrupt, convicts/absconders.

One wonders, why?

Do not know about the others but surely posters like you and few more are the cases.by the way I usually try not to talk to people who are either criminal minded or supports criminals (both are the same). So will try not to reply to your garbage posts anymore. I have been observing your situation for few months. There must be some psychological issue which I can not solve.
I think [MENTION=1269]Bewal Express[/MENTION] and few more will deal with you the way they were doing. Sorry if my words hurt you but it is the way I think .

It's sad that what was once a decent poster( who you could disagree with) has become a caricature who supports facsists . Maybe this is the real him and all the stuff posted before was just guff.

The utter disregard for the damage being done to Pakistan and its people is astounding.

The lack of humanity is genuinely disturbing.

As specialist in running away from me because as we know and everyone knows you don't have the intellect or the morals to debate me. Everything you ever purportedly stood for on here over the last decade has been a pack of lies because the mafia are everything you told us you opposed. You told us the Mullahs were bad, well Diesel is in power, you told us you wanted civilian rule, well Bajwa is the head of the head of govt, you told us IK was a fascist dictator( who was a puppet lol) but he let the demos and long marches go ahead and gave medicine and food, and you celebrated when innocent PKs were attacked for their democratic rights.

As they say when you stay or in contact with someone for long time then the more you stay or in contact with the person the more you know about him and his true nature. It is exactly the case, the other one here was known by the way .

Former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan has said that those who “installed” incumbent rulers in power will be held responsible for the country’s destruction and added that it was the collective responsibility of the entire nation and institutions to save the country from “thieves”.

“The country is heading towards destruction and it’s not only my responsibility but the responsibility of the entire nation and institutions to stop this,” he said while addressing the press conference in Peshawar on Saturday.

The PTI chairman also said that his party will approach the Supreme Court for its right to peaceful protest.

The statement came days after Khan took many by surprise when he suddenly announced ending his “Haqeeqi Azadi March” and decided to give a six-day ultimatum to the ruling coalition to announce an election date or else he would return to the capital with more people next time.

Yesterday at a similar presser, he rejected the notion that a deal had been reached with the establishment, saying that he ended the “Azadi March” only out of fear of bloodshed.

"Our protest was peaceful but the government turned it into a violent one. In Lahore, police stopped a bus filled with lawyers, dragged them out and beat them. The government brought in selected officers, including the inspector general of police, who committed atrocities,” the former prime minister said.

Khan said institutions were playing a role of spectators while the coalition government led by PML-N was busy in “destroying” the country.

The former premier said he was ready for negotiations with the government but only if his demand for early and transparent polls was accepted.

“My contention is that the more they [government] will remain in power further the country will move towards chaos,” he added.

Criticising the government’s decision to increase the fuel prices, the ousted premier said the “imported government” was not purchasing Russian oil in ‘discounted price’ due to fear of its “masters” [the United States].

He claimed his government inked an agreement with the Russian authorities to buy crude oil on discounted prices. “Despite being the strategic ally of the US, India reduced the oil prices because it is purchasing oil from Russia.”

Petition for peaceful protest

Khan, while lashing out at the authorities for torturing and conducting raids at “peaceful” PTI workers during his party’s ‘Haqeeqi Azadi March’, said his party will file a petition in Supreme Court against the government on Monday.

He said he will approach the apex court against the government for creating hurdles in the way of the protesters and ask the top court whether staging ‘peaceful’ protests are allowed in the country.

Khan said his party will also file a complaint against the police officials allegedly involved in dispersing the PTI protesters for the registration of first information report (FIR).

He said come what may he will not accept the incumbent government and will give another deadline for the next protest after his six-day ultimatum expired.

“I will sacrifice my life but will never accept them [government]. I am ready to fight till the end… we will come prepared this time,” he added.

The former premier said he had directed his party members to go to their respective constituencies and start preparations for the ‘next march’ to Islamabad.

He also announced challenging the recently amended NAB Amendment Bill and the Election Act Amendment Bill in the court, saying that depriving overseas Pakistanis of their basic right is an injustice.

He also reiterated his allegations that “foreign conspiracy” was hatched against his government for following an ‘independent foreign policy’.

Since his ouster through a no-confidence motion, Khan has been rallying across the country to build momentum against the government to force it to announce early elections, and the May 25 long march was supposed to stay put until a date was announced. However, that did not happen.

Nevertheless, one impact of the long march and the ultimatum was that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the doors were open for talks with the opposition but he would not take any dictation. Speaking on the floor of the House last week, the premier even offered to form a committee to discuss the next elections.

Political observers said the budget and reforms were one thing, but the ruling alliance was also taking some time so that the impact of their decisions evaporated before they went to elections – possibly this October.

One thing is for sure - next elections are happening in August 2023. Imran can do whatever he wants!

Another u-turn by Khan.

‘I will give a protest date after the six-day deadline.’

Didn’t he say he will come back to Isloo after six days!

PTI Chairman Imran Khan on Saturday said his party will move the supreme and high courts regarding the "violence" inflicted on the PTI workers and supporters by the government during its recent Azadi March to Islamabad.

Addressing a press conference in Peshawar, Imran recalled the tear-gas shelling and other incidents of heavy handed tactics allegedly used during the march, which ended in abrupt fashion on Thursday after an intense buildup all through the previous day. He said the use of violence against his party's "peaceful protest" will be raised in front of international human rights organisations as well.

"We are taking the petition in the Supreme Court on Monday and asking whether or not a peaceful protest in this country is a right of a democratic party. Tell us clearly if this harassment would continue if we stage a peaceful protest," he said.

The PTI chairman lashed out at the government for its measures to clamp down on the Azadi March and the use of police to quell the people. "We have information that they set fire to trees ... to frame us," he added.

Apart from approaching the apex court, Imran said cases will also be registered against Lahore Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations) Sohail Chaudhry and Islamabad Inspector General of Police Dr Akbar Nasir Khan. "We have to write down the names of police officers, register cases against them and will also share their names and faces on social media," he added.

Imran said the matter would be a "test for democracy", and the judiciary as well. "Will we sit down quietly if you close the doors of peaceful protest?" he questioned.

Addressing the institutions, Imran claimed the country was heading towards destruction and it was the responsibility of the entire nation to prevent it. "If it continues this way then all those who allowed such corrupt criminals and convicts [to come to power] will be responsible ," he added.

The PTI chairman claimed the courts had always "given favour and benefits" to the Sharif family in the cases against them.

He lashed out at the government for its economic performance since coming to power and highlighted the slide of the rupee and stock market.

Imran also blasted the government for increasing the prices of petroleum products and its decision to not pursue a deal with Russia to procure cheaper oil and gas.

The PTI chairman also explained his decision to end the Azadi March, saying that he did so because of the "anger in our people". He said he feared the anger would spill over into bloodshed and that it was never his aim to enable violence and instability.

He claimed that hate for the police, rangers and institutions was increasing among the people.

Imran said new elections were his "number one priority" and discussions on other issues could be held once the matter of elections was on the table. "I'm ready for every kind of negotiation leading up to fair and transparent elections."

The PTI chairman said the party had learned many lessons from the Azadi March, had developed contingencies to counter the government's heavy handed measure and would be better prepared next time.

Imran said he had issued directions to the PTI leadership to go to their constituencies and start preparations from today for the party's next march, claiming that a record numbers of people would turn up this time.

"We have decided today, we have analysed and we have began all our preparations, I will announce when we are coming to Islamabad [again]. This time we will come with preparations."

Imran also said the PTI would legally challenge the government's move to "revoke voting rights for overseas Pakistanis" and its changes to the National Accountability Bureau laws.

Another u-turn by Khan.

Didn’t he say he will come back to Isloo after six days!

Hmm....he should just bide his time and wait until the elections I think (as an outsider). He will surely win.

Ok you can have issues with that but we PTI supporters are ok with that.

He is doing that but at the same time putting pressure too. This group of thugs can not do anything good for sure.

An audio clip of an alleged conversation between former president Asif Ali Zardari and property tycoon Malik Riaz which took place before the no-confidence motion against former Prime Minister Imran Khan, has been leaked on social media in which Riaz can be heard saying that former premier wanted to reconcile with the PPP co-chairman.

During the conversation, Riaz said that he had been receiving several messages from Imran Khan.

"Sir, I just wanted to inform you about a matter that I have told you about before. I had told you that I wanted to talk to you about something and you told me that we would discuss it later," Malik told Zardari during the telephone call.

"I just wanted to let you know that [Imran] Khan has sent me several messages for reconciliation in a patch-up bid between you and him, and today, he has sent lots of messages to me," the property tycoon said to Zardari, who is known for his reconciliatory politics.

However, in response, the former president said: "But, it is impossible now."

"Yes, it's okay, I just wanted to bring this thing to your notice," Malik responded.

In April, the cricketer-turned-politician was voted out from power through a vote of a no-confidence motion, becoming the first prime minister in the country’s history to be unseated by a parliamentary revolt.

The joint opposition's no-confidence motion, which required 172 votes in the 342-strong parliament to pass, was supported by 174 lawmakers, shaking the political earth of the country with an unprecedented ouster of the premier and seemingly bringing to an end the protracted crisis.

Later, Shehbaz Sharif was elected as the country's 23rd prime minister after a NA vote.

Meanwhile, PTI leader Shahbaz Gill, while denying the reports, has said that the politicians from then opposition had been asking for NRO (amnesty) from Imran Khan.

"A business personality and an anti-Imran Khan politician are having a conversation which is being attributed to Imran Khan. However, the conversation has nothing to do with reality," he added.

He said that Imran Khan did not need NRO (amnesty) from anyone. Rather, he added, all these politicians had been asking for one which wasn't given to them.

One cannot ignore the fact that there is a clear change in tone. IK has received some message from establishment. Either it's IMF loan talks or some red lines which they want to restore.

Desi people are emotional. With time, it wears out. People becomes institutionalised even if they don't agree with the circumstances as time progress. The more PDM can buy time, the better for them. Since election is still a year, it can change drastically.

Agreed.

It's hard to maintain momentum for so long.

Yes something behind the scene. But still one can not predict. PDM with this performance will surely help IK more. He has to be patient.

Impossible.
PDM will make sure that EC, SC and the entire system is 100% rigged into their favor.

There is no point in elections now.

All these Azadi march protests will look a piece of junk when we see the election results - a majority of PDM members will win all over Pakistan with heavy margins.

IMO, the solution is a blood bath of a public revolution. Heads need to be rolled.

Otherwise, ye log country ko girvi rakh kar IMF aur foreign loans leytay rahengey, only to loot the loan dollars soon as they land into the govt account.

The other thing that they will do, and may already be doing is, to print Pak Rs by trillions. They put this money into their pockets and use it to buy local tangible asserts, like gold, diamonds, gems, etc.

Now that the currency printing press is under their control, who is there to stop them?

CHARSADDA: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has said that the present government led by Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) is going to recognise Israel following a delegation’s visit, ARY News reported on Sunday.

While addressing the PTI Workers’ Convention in Charsadda today, Imran Khan criticised the rulers and said that a delegation visited Israel for the first time which included a salaried person of state television Pakistan Television (PTV).

Imran Khan said that the nation will never accept the rulership of thieves and US slaves in Pakistan.

Khan said that they are fighting for real independence from the thieves. He vowed that he will not end his struggle and jihad against the corrupt rulers. He said that two PTI workers including Ali Shah and Faisal from Lahore were martyred during the movement for independence.

“I will give calls to the nationals at an appropriate time after completing the preparations.”

The PTI chairman said that the Supreme Court (SC) had ruled a peaceful protest is a democratic right of everyone. He said that the nation will never forgive Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah.

He announced to approach the courts against the use of force against the PTI workers during Islamabad’s long march, whereas, male police officials stormed houses and caught women.

“This time, there will be no hurdles in our way to move forward. We are moving to the Supreme Court (SC) for getting our right to organising peaceful protests.”

“The imported rulers have increased the prices following the directives of IMF [International Monetary Fund] which is being controlled by the United States (US).”

“We were going to sign an agreement with Russia for getting cheap oil and Russia had shown agreement to sell oil at 30 per cent lower price.

Criticising the present government, Imran Khan said that a delegation from Pakistan paid a visit to Israel. “They are going to recognise Israel. An employee of renowned a private institution was included in the delegation.”

To the PTI workers, Imran Khan said, “You should start preparations and I am also preparing. We consider the struggle for real independence ‘jihad’ and the nation will come out against the corrupt rulers.”

ARY

Deposed prime minister Imran Khan on Sunday asked his supporters to prepare for the next march towards Islamabad, saying he would never give up his jehad against the 'imported' government.

“I ask of the entire nation to prepare and wait for my call for the protest,” Imran told participants of a workers’ convention in Charsadda, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

The former premier said his party would leave no stone unturned this time to prepare for the long march.

Turning his guns towards the opposition, he specifically warned Interior Minister Rana Sanullah, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his son Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz that they would not be spared for their manhandling of the protesters during the party’s march on Thursday.

“We will make sure that we bring you to justice and get you punished for your actions that day,” he said.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman went on to say that the nation would never forgive “Rana Sanaullah, Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shehbaz for their act of tyranny” against peaceful protesters.

He added that “no country in the world would use tear gas shells on protesters in the way that the government did”.

The ousted premier also announced to approach the Supreme Court against the alleged use of male Punjab police officials to detain women from inside homes during the raids to arrest the party’s activists.

He also took the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz-led (PML-N) government to task for increasing the prices of fuel.

“They did so on the orders of the IMF.” he said, adding, “They will also compromise on Kashmir as well as accept Israel.”

Imran claimed that according to a photo, a Pakistani delegation had travelled to Israel, adding that the team also comprised an official of the state-run PTV.

He further said that the government also would not buy inexpensive fuel from Russia. “They will do all of these things because they are an imported government and they are subservient to the US.”

Concluding, the PTI chief said that the rulers wanted to turn a dignified nation of 200 million people into slaves, which they should not accept and take to the streets on his call.

Kinda disappointed in Imran Khan. He invokes the jazbaat of Pakistanis way too often, one needs to understand you can cry wolf only so many times. This country has and always will belong to the military boys. They are dealing directly with the Americans and I think they have been told no khan allowed if you want imf loans and staying off sanctions. Wishful thinking to believe anything in this country can be changed by one man. Imran Khan needs to learn alot about global politics, you simply do not **** off Americans and expect them to bail you out.

True. In August 2023, PTI will simply vanish while PDM will win almost all seats. There is no coming back now for PTI.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Faisal Javed Khan has demanded of the federal government to announce the date for the general elections, ARY News reported on Monday.

Speaking on the Senate floor, Faisal Javed claimed that the people of Pakistan have rejected the ‘imported’ government led by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and demanded immediate elections in the country.

The PTI senator told the federal government that only two days were left before another long march. “Announce the dates for election otherwise the whole film is yet to run,” he added. Senator Faisal also told the Chairman Senate that his privilege was being violated.

“Even after the Supreme Court orders, our houses are being raided. Police fired tear gas against unarmed Pakistanis, cases were registered against our party workers. Is there a law of the jungle?” he asked, adding that the government should be ashamed for launching illegal crackdown against unarmed and peaceful protestors.

The Senator pointed out that Imran Khan carried out most marches and rallies. “Two million people took to the streets. The whole nation stands by Imran Khan. This government was imposed under conspiracy and now all eyes are on Supreme Court,” he added.

Earlier this month, Imran Khan and several former federal ministers were booked in 16 cases under the charges of attacking policemen and vandalizing government properties during Azadi March towards Islamabad.

As per details, the cases were registered against Imran Khan, Asad Umar, Shireen Mazari, Zartaj Gul, Khurram Nawaz, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Ali Amin Gandapur and others.

Moreover, 200 unknown PTI workers have also been booked in the cases registered at PS Karachi Company, Aabpara PS, Tarnol, Kohsar, PS Ramana, Secretariat, Lohi Bheer and others.

Former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan on Monday, while explaining why he ended the Azadi March last week, said he feared that "bloodshed" was imminent as some of his party workers were also armed and could have retaliated in the face of the authorities' hours-long shelling and heavy-handed tactics.

After an intense build-up the previous day and repeatedly urging his supporters to reach D-Chowk in Islamabad in order to push the government towards new elections, Imran had on last Thursday sprang a surprise by retreating and calling off the march.

In an interview with TV journalist Moeed Pirzada for 92 News today, the PTI chairman revealed his reasoning for doing so, saying that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif-led government would have been the ultimate beneficiary of any ensuing chaos and violence.

"The hatred against police had already intensified and seeing me [at D-Chowk] would have further stoked the sentiments of my workers," he said. "I was a 100 per cent sure that bullets will be fired. People from our side were also ready as some of them were carrying pistols. It would have led to further hatred against the police and the army and caused divisions within the country ...," he told the interviewer.

"I was hundred per cent sure the country would have headed towards anarchy in this situation," he added.

The PTI chairman said the situation gave him the impression as if Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and PM Shehbaz Sharif had asked the Pakistan Army to let them handle the situation "so the government could teach a lesson to the protesters".

Imran said his party would approach the Supreme Court on Tuesday and ask whether or not holding a "peaceful protest" was permissible in the country. "If the Supreme Court does not protect our fundamental rights this time, then it is not democracy."

The former PM went on to say that "this will be the trial of the Supreme Court now".

Imran, while addressing a lawyers' convention in Peshawar earlier today, said that if the Supreme Court does not provide his party "protection" from police action for the next round of their protest, he would opt for a different strategy wherein his supporters would be "prepared" to deal with the situation.

He said: "If they (SC) don't give us protection, today I stand here in front of you and say that I will have another strategy."

Under this strategy, Imran said the PTI would make a plan for dealing with the obstacles. "[That] time round we weren't prepared [...] we were stuck unprepared. This time we will be prepared," he said, declaring that this was a jihad for him. "I will not accept this imported government at any cost."

Imran march for haqeeqi azadi — true freedom — was preceded by the authorities invoking of Section 144, a measure used to curb gatherings. Shipping containers were put in place on major thoroughfares to block their path.

Undeterred by the moves, the marchers, who tried to force through the containers to make their way to Islamabad, were met with tear gas as police tried to disperse them. Police also charged at them with batons.

PTI's Azam Swati has also filed a police complaint seeking the registration of a first information report (FIR) against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, Inspector General of Police Islamabad Dr Akbar Nasir and others over "police brutality and unreasonable use of force" against PTI supporters.

During his speech, Imran came down hard on the ruling coalition, reiterating that they were brought in through a "foreign conspiracy". He also lambasted the government for the crackdown on the participants of the much hyped but short-lived Azadi March held on May 25.

"We have asked for a ruling from the SC over whether or not we have the democratic right to stage a peaceful protest? If this is a democracy [...] under what basis were we stopped? How can they stop the chief ministers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan?" he asked.

He asserted that his party did not have a "history of violence", pointing to the PTI's 126-day sit-in in Islamabad in 2014. He said that he called of the sit-in on May 25 in an effort to avoid bloodshed.

Imran said the brutality of the police had angered the people, adding that he feared that it would lead to violence and chaos. He said that it would also have developed hatred against the police as well as the army as Rangers had also fired tear gas shells.

"I did not want my country to be divided and for our enemies to benefit," he said.

Imran asked the apex court to give a ruling providing an explanation why obstacles were placed to stop the PTI from holding the long march. He also questioned whether the SC would still allow such "undemocratic" moves when the PTI announces the date for its next march.

"This kind of brutality doesn't even happen in dictatorships," he said.

'Defining moment'
During his speech, Imran said that Pakistan was currently witnessing a "defining moment", and called on the legal fraternity and the judiciary to play their role in saving the country.

"I want you all to think of this as a jihad. This is a fight for our haqeeqi azadi (true freedom)," he said. He went on to say that future generations would not be forgiving if they did not raise their voice.

Turning his guns towards the Sharif family, Imran said that when he entered politics he was warned about them. "I was warned that they were cheap and disgusting and would not spare my family."

He accused the Sharif family of functioning like a mafia where it would either buy off people's loyalties or eliminate them.

Imran also lamented that the law only applied to the country's poor, pointing out how the indictment of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Sharif was being delayed.

Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman has said that if the institutions do not perform their job, they will expose themselves in front of the masses and become "naked".

"Where our country currently stands, these are defining moments for Pakistan. If institutions do not do their job now, they will expose themselves. They are becoming naked," he said during an interview with a private TV channel on Monday.

Imran said that if the Supreme Court does not protect the fundamental rights of the people then there will be no democracy in the country. "The Constitution gives us permission to move, to protest and right to speech. This is also a trial for the Supreme Court as well."

Lashing out at the incumbent government for use of force against the 'Azadi March' "peaceful" protesters, the former premier said that the government defied the apex court's orders.

Struggle against govt 'real jihad'

"I have never seen this amount of torture meted out to women. Sharifs have appointed criminals in the Punjab police," he said and added that Pakistan is being ruled by criminals and those who are struggling against them are committing real jihad.

Talking about the unruly incident in Prophet's (PBUH) mosque, he said that they did not even know about the incident. "Who can think of doing such a thing in Madina but they registered FIR against us for blasphemy. Let me tell them one thing, wherever they will go, they will listen to these two words: traitors and thieves."

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif claimed Monday that protestors in the 'Azadi March' were also carrying automatic weapons on Imran Khan's orders, Geo News reported.

Defence Minister's statement came in reaction to PTI chairman Imran Khan's interview with a private television channel, in which he confirmed that his party's workers were carrying firearms during the 'Azadi March.'

Speaking on Geo News Programme Aaj Shahzaib Khanzada Kay Saath, Khawaja Asif said “Imran Khan is right, his party workers were not only carrying guns, but they also had automatic firearms.”

“Imran Khan had asked protestors to bring weapons in the long march, however, the government was aware of that,” he added.

In response to the PTI leadership's deliberations on returning resignations to the National Assembly, Khawaja Asif remarked, "it's a rerun of 2014, when they (PTI legislators) returned to parliament" despite having submitted their resignations.

In April, following the removal of former prime minister Imran Khan from power through a no-confidence motion PTI MNA's from NA submitted their resignations, however the process of verification has yet to be started.

“If they (PTI lawmakers) have truly submitted resignations from their seats in NA, so why don’t they go in the house to complete the verification process?” Asif questioned.

The PML-N leader said the PTI member had occupied parliament lodges and were taking salaries, enjoying perks and benefits as a parliamentarian.

Talking about the purportedly leaked audiotape of property tycoon Malik Riaz and PPP co-chairperson Asif Zardari, Khawaja Asif claimed that he knew the name of the messenger.

"I know the person who delivered Imran Khan's message to Malik Riaz, but I don't want to take his name," Khawaja claimed, adding that "Malik Riaz has old links with Imran Khan since he got the food dispatch in 2014 dharna and Imran Khan was also using Malik Riaz's private jet for travel."

‘General election after completion of tenure’

Last week, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb, responding to the demand of Imran Khan for an immediate announcement of fresh elections, had said that the coalition government would announce the date of the general election after the completion of its tenure.

Marriyum Aurangzeb, while addressing a press conference had said that the government could not hold dialogues on the basis of threatening statements and orders.

Imran says will announce next march as soon as SC decides on petition

PTI Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan said on Wednesday that the party had filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking its protection, and he would announce the date for the next march to Islamabad as soon as the apex court rules on the matter.

Addressing a social media conference in Peshawar, Imran said he wanted the Supreme Court to grant protection to the PTI's march and answer whether Pakistanis have the fundamental right to hold a peaceful protest.

He highlighted the way the federal and Punjab governments had responded to the PTI's recent Azadi March on May 25 by "firing [tear gas] shells and wrongfully using Punjab police" and said this was why the party wanted a ruling from the SC.

"As soon as their decision comes, I will announce [the date for the next march] and we will leave [for the capital]."

The PTI chairman said the party's planning would be better this time. "After [the previous] Supreme Court ruling, we believed the path would be clear and no one would be picked up. We will not repeat the mistakes."

PTI's Azadi March on May 25 was preceded by the authorities invoking Section 144 — a measure used to curb gatherings. Shipping containers were put in place on major thoroughfares to block their path.

Undeterred by the moves, the marchers tried to force through the containers to make their way to Islamabad amid intense shelling and baton-charge by the police. PTI supporters were also arrested in cities across Punjab.

The PTI's march towards Islamabad's D-Chowk and the shelling of teargas by police took place despite the Supreme Court directives for the former to hold its protest in Islamabad's H-9 area and orders for the government to not make arrests or use force in connection with the march.

However, Imran had chosen to turn back from the 9th Avenue after giving a six-day deadline to the government for announcing elections and dissolving assemblies and warned that he would return to the capital with the "entire nation" otherwise.

In his speech today, Imran exhorted party workers to continue their struggle against "criminals", telling them that what they were doing was "jihad, and not politics".

"The violent, barbaric way in which shelling was done ... law enforcement agencies do not do this violence on their own people. Only criminals do this."

Pakistan's biggest problem was injustice, he said, adding that citizens would have to get their right through jihad.

"This is the most important time for the nation. If we defeat them (the incumbent government), Pakistan will progress. And if we do not, then your children will have to fight this war."

The PML-N-led coalition government was "threatening people and scaring them", he alleged and claimed that according to evidence collected by the PTI, the shells fired at party supporters were "the ones used only against terrorists".

The PTI chief called on his supporters to defeat the fear, saying, "I do not fear anything because I believe we are fighting this war for our [future] generations."

He claimed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah were "criminals" and "the most cowardly people".

PTI's petition
Earlier in the day, Barrister Ali Zafar filed a petition in the apex court on behalf of PTI secretary general Asad Umar.

The petition, a copy of which is available with Dawn.com, posed a number of questions to the SC, asking whether freedom of movement and right to peaceful protest and procession is a fundamental right enshrined in the Constitution.

It also asks whether rights granted under Articles 4 (right to be dealt with in accordance with law), 5 (loyalty to state and obedience to the Constitution and the law), 8 (laws inconsistent with or in derogation of fundamental rights to be void), 9 (security of person), 10 (safeguards as to arrest and detention), 14 (inviolability of dignity of man), 15 (freedom of movement), 16 (freedom of assembly), 17 (freedom of association), 19 (freedom of speech) and 25 (equality of citizens) can be "unreasonably curtailed by executive authorities through use of disproportionate and unlawful force on peaceful citizenry".

Another question it asks is whether the state and governmental agencies can unlawfully deprive citizens of their liberty, guaranteed under Articles 9 and 10, by arresting individuals who are participating in, or intend to participate in a peaceful protest for attaining their democratic rights.

It further asks whether the PTI has the "fundamental right to organise, associate and conduct a nationwide political rally, in accordance with Article 17 of the Constitution, without unlawful interference by the federal and provincial government authorities".

The petition requests the court to direct the federal and Punjab governments to "not torture or arrest or use any force or coercive measures or intimidating tactics (including, without limitation, conducting of illegal raids in their houses)" against people who want to attend a rally organised by PTI.

It also requested the court to stop the authorities from putting obstacles or blocking access to places or restricting people's movement.

PESHAWAR: PTI Chairman Imran Khan on Thursday was granted a three-week transit bail against a surety of Rs50,000, from the Peshawar High Court (PHC), ahead of another long march he plans to lead in the coming days.

The former prime minister reached out to the PHC for protection against his possible arrest in case he marches to Islamabad again. PHC Chief Justice Qaiser Rasheed accepted the plea. Imran had appeared in court to file his plea in a personal capacity.

However, media representatives and reporters were barred from attending the hearing as the court's doors were closed when Imran arrived.

The PTI filed a petition in the apex court seeking permission for a second long march to Islamabad.

The party chairman had abruptly announced the end of his "Azadi March" on March 26 and had given the government a six-day ultimatum to announce a date for a general election. He had later said he called the march off due to fear of bloodshed.

The petition argued that the court should order that PTI be allowed to hold peaceful protests and gatherings in Islamabad and that no obstacles should be put in the way of PTI protests in any city.

The establishment have made a terrible error by backing criminals and there is no way out without them losing face.

Let it be clear - elections would be held in August 2023. This all talk of revolution and march is nothing but absolute garbage!

Let it be clear - elections would be held in August 2023. This all talk of revolution and march is nothing but absolute garbage!

I'm very clear that elections are happening this year. There is a lot lot of uncertainty at present and current government won't be able to wriggle its way till August 2023 absolutely no way. For starters the next by-election on Punjab assembly seats would happen in early July if by any chance PTI ends up winning more seats than PMLN which is likely then Punjab is gone and PTI would be governing KP and Punjab which would paralyse the Federal government. Imagine a long march to Islamabad when PTI has governance in both KP and Punjab.

PTI Chairman Imran Khan announced on Thursday that he would unveil his plan of action for his party's next march at a rally in Dir "two days from now" on Saturday.

"I have a rally in Dir where I will present my next plan of action. We are studying the Supreme Court's decision," he said while speaking at a rally in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Shangla district.

The PTI is looking towards the apex court to provide his party "protection" ahead of another planned march towards Islamabad, which would follow his 'Azadi March' late last month where PTI workers and supporters had faced intense police action. The purpose of the marches is to pressure the government into calling immediate elections.

The party's petition in this regard, however, was returned by the SC registrar today, saying that it had already decided on an "almost similar issue".

Imran, in his speech today, said he would stay in KP for two more days to prepare his organisations. "I am planning to continue our campaign for freedom until the government conducts fair and transparent elections."

Turning his guns towards the coalition government for their alleged torture on the protestors of his May 25 march, he said that staging a peaceful protest was a citizen's democratic right, adding that "brutalising" protesters was not allowed under the constitution of any country.

"They can't win the election. They can't mingle with the people because they get heckled with chants of chor (thief) and gaddar (traitor)."

He claimed that the government was trying to "rig the polls" in connivance with the Election Commission of Pakistan. "A conspiracy is being carried out to destroy Pakistan's democracy."

Imran said that the government was harming all the country's institutions by having its leaders' corruption cases swept under the rug and by clipping the wings of the anti-graft watchdog.

Imran warns neutrals
Addressing the establishment, the PTI chairman said that their neutrality could have consequences for the country.

"Those on top now want to destroy the country. People fear that the country will go bankrupt," he said, pointing to the rise in inflation and debt.

"If the situation is not steadied and it goes bankrupt, then I have a message for the establishment. The United States and Soviet Union were the world's biggest powers. But when the Soviet Union's economy tanked, it broke apart and even its strong army could not keep it together."

Imran said that even though the establishment said it was neutral, the people would still be looking in its direction as they knew where the "power" lies.

"History will not be forgiving if the nation descends into chaos and you keep on saying that you are neutral," he said.

The PTI chairman alleged that the government, brought into power through a US conspiracy, would end up bankrupting the country.

What I dont understand is what does PDM gain by delaying elections? Surely they want a mandate for 4 years to fix the country?

They're obsessed with power and have a misplaced sense of entitlement.

They also have a band of clowns who think it's normal to have corrupt families in power, even after treating Pakistan like their property.

Lastly, PDM are probably feeling after Khan nearly had them locked up (only to be saved by the Courts)

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Saturday appointed former provincial health minister Dr Yasmin Rashid as president of the party's central Punjab wing.

The appointment was announced through a notification addressed by PTI's Central General Secretary Asad Umar.

As per the notification, Hammad Azhar was appointed as Central Punjab General Secretary, Aamir Kiani as North Punjab President and Senator Aon Abbas Buppi as South Punjab President.

The reshuffle is being witnessed following the failure of the party's Punjab office bearers to efficiently mobilise the supporters during the 'Azadi March' held last month.

Hardly any leader from central Punjab could reach Islamabad to join the political activity, owing to poor planning.

Only Dr Yasmin Rashid and Hammad Azhar were said to be seen trying their best to escape from police and local administration to participate in the long march in Islamabad. Both the leaders faced police torture and manhandling but expressed their resolve not to give up in any circumstances.

A day earlier, former federal education minister and ex-PTI Central Punjab president Shafqat Mahmood resigned from his post owing to medical reasons.

He indicated in his resignation that he could not perform party's responsibilities due to his health issues but he would perform any other duties assigned by the leadership.

The ex-minister also congratulated the incoming provincial office bearers and expressed his well wishes for them.

Addressing a social media conference in Peshawar on Wednesday, the PTI chief said his party had filed a petition in the Supreme Court for a ‘peaceful protest’ in Islamabad.

"We want protection from the Supreme Court on whether we have the right to peaceful protest and whether the judiciary can allow these ‘criminals’ [government officials] to torture women and children," he had said.

Imran had also said that the courts are formed to give protection to the weak, adding that they would be better prepared this time while going to Islamabad and won't repeat ‘mistakes’.

PTI has postponed its long march. I had said long ago that would not march again because he knows that the current government would complete its term.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) put off on Sunday its second long march towards Islamabad until after the next federal budget, and decided to fully participate in the upcoming by-elections in Punjab.

The decisions were taken in a meeting of the party’s core committee, chaired by party Chairman Imran Khan at his Bani Gala residence. The meeting reviewed the ongoing political situation in the country, plans for the long march, by-elections and other matters.

“The core committee has decided to take the decision regarding the anti-inflation march after June 15,” PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi told reporters after the meeting. He said that the party would take full part in the upcoming by-election in Punjab.

Qureshi also said that the PTI members of the National Assembly would not appear before the speaker to verify their resignations. “It was also decided that there would be no talks on any option other than the new elections in the country,” he added.

Responding to a question, the former foreign minister said that Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah wanted to arrest Imran Khan but warned that any such attempt would be a mistake. If Imran was arrested, he said, the workers would react immediately, he said.

“The entire nation listened to Rana Sanaullah’s threats and his rhetoric. Rana Sanaullah plans to arrest Imran Khan. If he thinks we will remain silent on Imran’s arrest, he is a big fool,” he added.

Commenting on the prevailing situation in the country, Qureshi said that economic security was very important in the national security. He stressed that the PTI government reduced electricity and petrol prices despite pressure from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

“The state of the economy is worsening with each passing day,” Qureshi told reporters. “We were talking about buying cheap oil and wheat from Russia but the current government is refusing to talk to Russia,” he added.

“When we talked to the Taliban to end terrorism, there was a lot of criticism,” he continued. “Now this government and its foreign minister are talking to the Taliban. They are following our policies. So will the foreign minister speak about the talks with Taliban now?”

Qureshi said that since this new government took over, there had been a shortage of flour in the country. “Now, a flour bag of 20 kilogrammes was being sold for Rs1,600 in in Punjab. The prices of the other commodities had also hot up,” he added.

The Supreme Court was apprised by the law enforcement agencies that a “crowd was organised to enter Red Zone under the PTI leadership who had reached Express Chowk with the intent to proceed further towards D-Chowk as per the directions of the party’s highest command”.

On June 1, the Supreme Court sought reports from director generals of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Intelligence Bureau (IB) as well as Islamabad IG police, interior secretary and others over the alleged involvement of PTI leaders in instigating party workers to reach Islamabad's D-Chowk in violation of its May 25 order.

Sources revealed to The Express Tribune that these reports said that party leaders, including Saifullah Niazi and Zartaj Gul etc, were urging the workers on social media to reach D-Chowk to welcome PTI Chairman Imran Khan. Their videos were also attached with the reports.

It is also learnt that the court was told that on May 25 at about 6:50 pm, Imran gave a video message near Chach Interchange (Attock) en route to Islamabad, wherein, he acknowledged the Supreme Court’s judgment and called upon the public to reach D-Chowk. Imran also added that he would also try to reach D-Chowk in an hour or so.

Earlier, the PTI had initially informed the Islamabad DC through a letter on May 23 requesting provision of security for the party’s sit-in on May 25 at Srinagar Highway between the H-9 and G-9 area.

A three judge bench of the apex court led by Justice Ijazul Ahsan passed the order at 6pm on May 25. Following the order, police, Rangers and FC were directed to show maximum restraint and they stopped any further action so that protestors could reach the G-9/H-9 area.

However, groups of people led by their leaders kept on moving towards D-Chowk on Jinnah Avenue which is a different route than the Srinagar Highway. Police and LEAs moved back towards Express Chowk/Red Zone as per the direction of the police command.

It is mentioned in one report that the protesters had come motivated to cross the barriers and confront the police and LEAs as per directions of their leadership. On May 25 at around 6:50pm, some of them kept advancing in vehicles and motorbikes against LEAs who were on the roads.

The protesters were armed with wooden sticks and they pelted stones at LEAs personnel in order to force their way to the D-Chowk and other places also. Moreover, the protesters were also using vehicles to run over the police officials deployed on duty who were only yielding batons to stop the protesters. Heavy machinery was also used to remove the containers earlier in the day at various places during the rally.

The protesters started setting ablaze nearby trees and bushes. Some of the protesters also mounted containers placed on the main road near China Chowk leading to Express Chowk towards Red Zone.

The SC was also apprised that the police had taken lawful, necessary, and proportionate steps to disperse the crowd who was continuously trying to reach the closed areas in Red Zone.

And the police only employed defensive and anti-riot measures to maintain law and order, but the protesters were charged and adamant to move to the Red Zone. During the stone-pelting by protesters and resistance put up by them, 23 LEAs personnel were injured in ICT.

Police exercised maximum restraint after the orders of the Supreme Court, using anti-riot tactics which included teargas and baton-charge only to protect themselves and public life and property and avert of law and order situation.

The police and LEAs used teargas shelling to prevent entry of the charged mob into the Red Zone, however, only anti-riot measures were used to disperse the mob. Police and LEAs were not issued any fire arms, specifically to avoid any casualty, despite credible information about armed personnel among the protesters which could have led to violence.

It was also stated that when apprehension and threat level enhanced, Article 245 of the Constitution was invoked and the Pakistan armed forces were called by the government to assist the civil administration.

Even when protesters crossed the Red Zone in the morning of May 26, 2022, despite this sheer violation of the lawful orders, police, Rangers and other institutions exercised maximum restraint and did not employ any force and peacefully dispersed the crowd to avoid any breach of peace.

As per PIMS report, 26 civilians got medical treatment while six went to Poly Clinic. Seventy-seven accused were arrested in 19 cases in Islamabad.

A Lahore anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Friday approved interim bails of top leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) in Punjab a day after it issued non-bailable arrest warrants for them over multiple charges including alleged violations of Section 144 and attacks on law enforcement agencies on May 25 — the day PTI workers marched to Islamabad.

According to the court order issued Thursday, investigating officer Muhammad Saleem had requested the issuance of non-bailable arrest warrants for PTI leaders Mian Akram Usman, Muhammad Zubair Khan Niazi, Imtiaz Mehmood Sheikh, Mian Mehmood ur Rasheed, Mian Shafqat Mehmood, Malik Nadeem Abbas, Murad Raas, Mian Aslam Iqbal, Yasir Gilani, Dr Yasmin Rashid, Hammad Azhar, Andleeb Abbas, and Ijaz Chaudhry.

The orders were sought on the grounds of their "intentionally concealing themselves in order to avoid their arrest and their arrest is necessary for completion of the investigation".

Subsequently, the court of Judge Abher Gul Khan issued the warrants.

By Friday all the PTI leaders named in the cases arrived in court and applied for interim bails. The court accepted their requests and stopped the police from arresting them till June 17.

Last month, the Punjab police had registered a total of 42 criminal cases against PTI’s senior leaders and workers for alleged agitation in the aftermath of the long march.

It said three police officials had been martyred in the line of duty while 100 others were injured, three of them seriously, in allegedly attacks by PTI workers. Of them, 34 personnel were injured in Lahore, 48 in Attock and nine in Sargodha, Mianwali, Rawal*pindi, Jhelum and other cities.

Earlier, a police official told Dawn that 12 cases were registered in Lahore, five in Sialkot, four each in Rawalpindi and Sargodha, three in Mianwali, and two each in Attock and Jhelum, while one FIR was lodged in Chakwal.

'Pakistan turning into police fascist state'
In a media talk outside court after securing interim bail, Hammad Azhar accused PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz and Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah of turning the country into a "police fascist state".

"Today, we are here in front of a terrorism court, but none of us are terrorists," he said. "The people present here are those who took to the streets for a peaceful protest on May 25."

Azhar claimed that Maryam and Sanaullah had passed "special orders to include terrorism charges" in the FIRs. "The imported government today is registering FIRs against those who came out to protest peacefully ... which is our constitutional and legal right.

"Rana Sanaullah and Maryam want to make this a police fascist state so that no one can raise their voice against their greed for power," he said.

"Today, I want to ask: Where is the law and Constitution?"

The PTI leader added that the "reality behind the deaths of Maqsood 'Chaprasi' and Dr Rizwan (FIA investigator) will soon become apparent". "We will find out whether theirs were natural deaths or murders."

Azadi March

On the day of the Azadi March, May 25, clashes between PTI activists and police at Lahore’s Liberty Chowk were reported as the law enforcers resorted to tear gas shelling in an attempt to clear roads for traffic, which was blocked by the demonstrators on a fresh directive from the party chief to lodge protests in their respective areas, after the protesters threw stones on the police personnel while refusing to clear the roads.

When PTI’s Lahore chapter gathered its workers at Bhatti Chowk to remove barriers placed in the area to block their route to Islamabad, the police resorted to tear gas shelling to disperse them and arrested over 10 PTI workers. Around 212 other party activists were picked up from other city areas.

During the faceoff, former federal minister Hammad Azhar was injured in a "direct attack" from the police. Meanwhile, the windshield of former Punjab health minister Yasmin Rashid's vehicle was also broken.

DAWN

Where's all the jazba gone over the last few days?

Maybe the supporters are resigned to the fact that change will only happen come the elections a year and a half later.

Wow. Rather than have open fair elections, your happy to be part of a selected criminal gang mafia who ONLY in it for personal intrest rather than the Awaam. Have some shame! Or has the years of consumption of haraaam completely transformed you and your ilk.

Elections took place.. they took place back in 2018. The elections happen after 5 years. This govt aint going no where

Just because you dont like someone and want a traitor to be a pm doesnt mean you get to have elections whenever you like to...

As for your understanding for awaam. Awaami govt doesnt sell petrol on subsidy or start a sehat card on imf loan, that is the dumbest thing a person could do.

You bring policies that bring results in long run.

I like how pti gets its people killed by convincing them to join a dumb march and than give out blood money as for compensation .

So the blood money rate of pti is one carore....

Have some shame! You are posting nonsense like an illiterate person.

These people went to protest using peaceful means. It was the sitting regime who decided to turn this violent. The blood is on those who gave the orders to start using riot gas and rubber bullets.

They did get something see what you daku PPP did with the killer of Nazim Jokhio he got VIP treatment when he came back and Nazim Jokhio wife gets forced to take back te case.
And please came to the PPP thread to talk about great achievements in Sindh and Karachi.

This is my hunch about it.

IK has been warned to lose his life and/or his loved ones lives if he actuality tried to get back in power.

They have spared his life and asked him just do to these protests and marches for a little bit till it cools and off, and then slowly walk away.

I don’t think IK is coming back. It’s over!

PPP will take the next turn on the PM house.

Zero reason for IK to get involved right now.

The country is in free fall and PDM have not got a clue what they're doing.

Bajwa is on damage control and it is likely the country will default.

It makes sense for PTI to wait till elections, rather than take the blame for this clownshow led by Shebaz and Mifta.

PDM is doing PTI's PR job right now

1 corore is better than a trip to UAE, no?
Or did Masood Chaprasi’s family receive a financial reward too?

What a genius thought full of fantasies.

After the 6 deadline passed due to the reality of heat, pti so called analyst giving their views of a conspiracy within a conspiracy :))). You guys will come up with any analogy to convince yourself that what Imran did was right even if he failed to keep up with his promise no. 804

So the fact that pti got its people killed hy naking them join a protest, you are celebrating that they did got something.

So 1 carore cash is the value of a persons life?

So pti is better because because yes they had their member killed because of the parties own dumb decision but they pay more blood money thus they better. :)

The situation changed with the imported regime decided to use riot gas and riot bullets on families. Remember men and women, old and young were part of these protests. It was entirely peaceful as had been all of the jalsas prior to then, so the escalation was deliberate and you continue to try and cover for them.

PDM implemented the escalation, up until then and even now PTI have been doing peaceful protests. It wasn't police shooting rubber bullets on PTI's orders, it was under orders from upper management of the PDM.

You dont take a child to a protest that you believe in. Basically people used their children as shields.

Also, maybe for pti fans this was the firstever protest they took part in, but in Pakiatan tear gas gets used.... It has been used and it will be used in future aswell no matter who is protesting.

I know this cause i lived near liaqut bagh which used to be center of political issues.

Anywyas, court gave pti an area to do their rona dhona. They did not use that area and they disturbed the public. Thus, police had to clear roads for the public.

Pti moslead its people got few killed. But dont worries carore ruppees will make them quiet....

Yes that's right, let's blame the victims and not the perpetrators. Typical response.

Lol victims. If youth decides to jump off the roof, you want pdm to take blame

Next time you or people you know want to protest, are you going to be ok if the police start shooting riot gas and bullets?
