Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) president Ehsan Mani believes that Pakistan will be fully organized and well-managed within five years to host a T20I World Cup or the Champions Trophy. He also shares his disappointment about the ICC that they only give the priority to India, Australia or England to host any ICC tournament.
When asking about how much time it will take before Pakistan can host a major tournament, the PCB chief said: “It’s extremely unfortunate that the ICC has dispensed every single major events to only three nations – India, Australia and England. We didn’t challenge it when they were doing it because of voracity and lack of knowledge about how things work in international cricket,” he said.
“Yet, there’s no point in discussing this further. We need to begin the basis now. We don’t have the framework today to have the World Cup alone. We can have a T20 World Cup or the Champions Trophy. I’m sure that in five years time we can have a T20 World Cup or the Champions Trophy.”
Current Sri Lanka has been in Pakistan to play three match ODI series and three match T20I series. This is the first visit for a foreign team in Pakistan for about fourteen days in the wake of assaulting the Sri Lankan team transport on the way to an arena in Lahore in 2009. Most of the teams have spared the nation from the snare where eight individuals were executed and many star players were harmed. After a big gap of 10 years, Sri Lanka had decided to visit Pakistan recently. During these 10 years, Pakistan hosted all their home matches in Dubai.
Mani also talked about the relationship with India and said whether India would agree to play tests against Pakistan as a part of the World Test Championship. “I don’t have a clue. But it’s India’s concern. They would not like to play against us in the World Cup yet had to play. I think they will do likewise in the World Test Championship else they should forfeit. I accept that the international cricket community will make India pay if it keeps on taking choices under political pressure and interference,” Mani said.
