What's new

In hindsight, losing 3-2 in England won’t be a bad result for India

And nearly everyone was saying Pakistan would lose the recent series 2-0 before the tour.

It’s such a strange argument to make that if it was 3 Tests that this or that would happen. It’s actually an absurd observation because so many factors have to come into play before such an hypothesis - the ground (e.g. Oval Pakistan have a decent record over England), conditions etc.

So fact is Pakistan have done much better than India in recent England tours. India have a better Test team but unlike Pakistan they didn’t prepare well for the tour so they paid the price.

I would love to see us in a 5 rest series at the height of the English summer. Even 4 tests. We deserve it.
Best touring side to England this decade pretty much

Best touring side to England this decade pretty much if u take into account we haven't had proper batting

All these people talking about India underperforming. What about england. Majority of their players underperformed too and if they did perform it would have been pretty one sided series.

If I were Indian, I would be happy with even 4-1 result. If England didn't make blunders with their team selection and held onto their catches India would've been down by 4-0 by now.

This works both ways though.

If India had batted a bit better in 1st and 4th tests they could have chased both targets and England would be 3-1 down.

Infact India should kick themselves for being 3-1 in a series where it should have been reverse.

India have underperformed and its not my concern.

However, it seems highly unlikley that a Test team who failed to win against Sri Lanka in UAE would have beaten England in a 3 test series.

In a 4 test series, you might have a chance of repeating a 2-2 draw again but unlikely.

I call it as I see it.

And I didnt for once believe Pakistan would lose to England 2-0.

But I also believed that India are not good enough to win away yet and this will be vindicated in Australia when India lose again with Kohli topping the charts as sole batsmen for India.

It will not be a good result for India at all! I been saying since the start of the summer this is a very poor England side they dont even know where Root should Bat and Cook finished. They are basically reliant on 6,7 & 8 batsmen to get them any runs. India could have easily won this series if they were good travelers but since the played such a long season on dust bowls they just couldn't adjust to different conditions.

It must also be considered due to the hot summer in the UK the conditions were also in India's favour. Its a huge lost opportunity. India have good batmen but they are too used to playing in Home conditions.

This applies even If India had won all the tosses!

Nothing, absoultely nothing that CC predicts ever comes true....lol... India has been damned to lose the 5th test as well :tahir2 :tahir2

People should stop comparing between teams and do the chest-thumping! Really I can just laugh off at the way some Pakistanis are thinking that their team is better than India for doing well in England. Well there's a reason why there is ranking system and how teams perform in various conditions and at various times! If you think that beating England is better than losing to Srilanka or WI at home, then what can I say? Is it a complex that playing cricket matters only in SENA countries? Should we abandon matches in Asia and shift all our cricketing activities to these so-called tough countries? Also there is no point in bringing past series/past years into now and start comparing (India also has won series in England, and Pakistan also have miserable record in Australia!)

You may mock at India for doing bad in overseas tests (is it that bad actually? from neutral perspective? Not from rival perspective :) ) Yes as fans we are disheartened about our performance, we can do much better than this, we know that... All our stupid selections and strategies... But proper neutrals will still appreciate our efforts overseas and the dominance at home!

It is not that we are completely naive overseas. We have done well in LOIs (I know the pitches are flat, but still there is considerable home factor even there!) Actually this is one of the reason why our batsmen have got spoiled (too much focus on LOIs) and lost their defense. It is about time something like "Test Only Batsmen/Specialists" are groomed (like Pujara, Rahane) especially Openers! And good part of money from IPL and other LOIs must be invested on them (including their payments!) It is impossible to be all-format batsmen in current era! Even Kohli (rare all format player!) should only be considered as supporting role/subsidiary role in Tests (as he let us down in some matches which we could have won! This does not happen in LOIs because he has mostly took us to victory lines and got that "chaser" tag! There he is the dominant player!) Also too much focus on a certain player in a weak team will always put pressure on him (Kohli, Tendulkar, etc) Whereas a strong team can turn an average player to a monster (e.g. Ricky Ponting! The way he struggled in India, because his team too struggled there!)

Test cricket is not just about blocking & playing defensively, sometimes you should take the attack to opposition (ask Langer or Laxman who were successful in ODIs) You need that additional temperament and balance between attack & defense. For e.g., you cannot let guys like Moeen Ali to dominate you! Laxman/Sidhu/Azhar (even Kambli for that matter) would have attacked him calculatedly & took the team to victory (because he was the only threat in the match! If you attack, then bowler will lose the rhythm completely even on tough pitches! Do you think this track was tough to handle an average spinner compared to handling Shane Warne on 4th day Eden Garden track?)

Kambli would have been a very successful test batsman had he played only tests, he would have tightened his defense even against pacers! Something similar is happening to KL Rahul & may end up losing his career eventually even after making repeated comebacks (like Kambli)

These are our internal issues, but definitely we are doing better in Test format compared to No.7 team!

India had the best chance to win this series but the batsmen them it down.Opportunities like this don't come often.By the time India visits next time England may become astong team. There are lots of talented youngster in England.

As they say there are no dead rubbers in test cricket. If we win in Oval, a 3-2 will still be something India can be proud off. A much better performance than what Eng did in India last time or India tour of Eng in 2014.

Just win the oval test and go into Australia with full confidence.

Of course it would be ab ad result. They are the number one test side, possibly the most hyped test side in history and they were handily beaten twice before winning a game, which did not matter because they were handily beaten yet again.

The most talked about batting line up on the planet failed, time and time and time again. How many times have they scared over 350? How many over 400?

This has been a disaster and until India produce better away cricketers they will only survive on Asian wickets.

So the number one ranked team in the world looking to humiliate England in England are now happy with a 3-2 series defeat?

How the mighty have fallen

This Indian team is the most hyped team at present.GQ India is calling the Indian bowling attack as the best bowling attack ever from any country to visit England. This is ridiculous. The Indian bowling attack is pretty decent but doesn't even come close to past Australian,West Indian and Pakistani attacks.

I think WI 1984, PAK 1992 and Australia 2001 might have something to say about that.

There is every chance the Australian pace attack might have cleaned up England's no 6 to no 11 much more easily than India. These were bowling friendly conditions therefore i will not read too much into India's bowling performances on this tour beyond a certain point.

certainly it's not going to be 3-2. Nonetheless kudos to India. They played well in this series but they never looked they were winning the series.

They got absolutely smashed in 3 out of 5 tests. Well played indeed.

Its all about moral victories and performances which provide an opportunity to say that, "if THAT had happened at THAT time of THAT session, we would have won the game". In short, anything less than completely destruction is okay for Indian fans.

Just one or at Max two fans, who else is it ok for?

Better than the usual white wash. You have to thank the bowlers who have performed compared to the former bowlers or this would have been another colonial wash.
