What's new

India [145, 49/0] roll over England [112, 81] inside 2 days with 10-wicket win in 3rd Test; lead 2-1

This is ridiculous, surely the pitch can’t be as bad as this?

Second innings England should attack, anyone trying to go in their shell is out in a matter of time, a lead of 150-200 should be way to much

They will have to try to hammer the quicks. If the quicks even bowl.

Please put the camera on L Siva. Seems like part of his soul dies whenever England take a wicket.

That's the problem with such pitches....it makes the likes of Root look like Murali...it becomes a lottery rather than test of skill.

India have better spinners and they should've gone for a better batting wicket and backed their spinners to get Eng batters.

The pitch curators should be investigated dust bowl prepared in a pink ball test?

:ashwin

And England decided to play with 3 fast bowlers on this pitch?

As bad a decision as when Pakistan played 4 seamers against India on a turning track in the Asia Cup in Bangladesh few years back.

When both 1st innings are <150 and Joe Root has 3/3 then it's a very poor pitch, by any standard.

(and I wait for the "whatabout" logical fallacies by Indian fans)

I'm all for home advantage but this pitch has completely imploded - look at the sharp turn here and it's only Day 2.

If only England scored 200 first up which they should’ve they would be big favourites as it is a lot depends on how they bat next.

This is fantastic!

It's like Pakistan's decisive Fifth Test victory in 1986-87 at Bangalore in 1987

Pakistan 116
India 145
Pakistan 249
India 204 (Gavaskar 96)

I might be completely missing the mark here, but I still don’t think the pitch is as bad as the scorecard is suggesting. Could be wrong.

This is what happens when you produce wickets like these, a part timer like Root looks like a demon spinner.

a genuine question to indian posters ...
Is this how this ground is expected to play or is it just a freak occurance/poor batting?
from the outside looking in it seems too spin friendly? strange as i rate indias batting as stronger than englands so dont understand why such a pitch would be prepared delibrately?

Pink ball test scared of losing going 2-1 down would mean at best a drawn series curators went a bit too far to nail home advantage.

Trouble looming already for India. Even a lead of 50 runs (which itself is unlikely) isn't good enough considering that they bat last in this test.

Defensive from England. Try to get out whoever is batting and wrap the inning.

Was just thinking that. The pitch is extremely challenging, but the quality of spin play has been very poor.

Sunil Gavaskar would dig in on pitches like this a la Bangalore 1987.

England have had a different top four or five in the last three test matches....
The fact they're even competing here is a minor miracle.

Indian government spent a lot of money on the stadium. Didnt have enough money to spend on the pitch

That was in T20 WC at Eden Gardens.Makes the decision of playing four seamers that much more ridiculous.

One of the greatest performances by a captain of all time, to think England were in deep deep trouble

Very odd because Indian batters generally counter spin well. I think fault lies with our senior batsmen. Some very good bowling by Root, I was expecting that he would release the pressure off batsmen instead he is turning Warne-ish.

The dangerous Ashwin gone. Root has four for five runs.

One shudders to think what Ashwin will do.....

These wickets from Root puts Indian spinners record and wicket in India into perspective, Ashwin for instance is still a very good bowler but no way he is as good as say Kumble and even Yasir is better.

A lead of 150-175 should be competitive.
If we can somehow set this total it could be enough...

As mikey Holding says night test cricket is a joke it Alters the playing conditions too much. That much that batting teams don’t mind a collapse or declare just to get the other team batting by the time lights take effect... JOKE!!

Joe Root is doing a Michael Clark. Pitch is also similar to that Mumbai 04 pitch. Target of 150 would be handy I feel.

Yasir? No sir.

Yasir? No sir.

Imagine how many Yasir will take on this wicket and how much ball will turn for him as a wrist spinner. Remember all these spinners on show are finger spinners.

Michael Holding still lives in the 70's. Not surprising that he would diss Day/Night tests.

Finger spinners do better in these sort pitches compared to the wrist spinners.

When was the last time Ishant hit a six in any form of cricket before this six?

This argument does not apply to this match. Batting has thus far been easier under lights as the dew impacts upon the spinners gripping the ball.

Poor batting from both teams

Poor pitch when both first innings <150 and it's jack Leach & part timers doing the dmg. Same as Clark'es 6/9.

Unlike a greentop, this pitch will only get worse, not easier so the contest never gets even between bat & ball.

If we can somehow take the lead to 36...I have a feeling we need not bat again.

Not watching guys.
Howz the pitch??are they batting poorly or another pathetic pitch prepared by Indians that might get rated as 'poor' by Icc
