What's new

India [189, 274] defeat Australia [276, 112] in the 2nd Test by 75 runs to level the series 1-1

Mukund does not have the ability of opener, greater domestic players from India have failed and not been given 7 test matches for an avg under 25

There will be some changes in the squad for next set of matches for sure!

Have to have Jadeja and Ashwin bowling in tandem. Jadeja swept away the tail in the 1st innings.

Maxwell can't do any worse than Marsh. Even SOK is a better player of spin than Mitch.

Looks like series will be 1-1 with 2 to play.

Lokesh rahul should be man of match if india win this game as hes been one batsmen who has been a class apart on this surface with the bat in this match.

LOL at people who thought Australia was going to chase the target without breaking sweat. Even chasing 150 on this wicket is a nightmare

Ashwin after struggling for most of the part of the game has still managed to AVG <25 in this series.

Other spinners must be having far better avgs I believe.

Peter Handscomb batted like Bradman in the series down under......can he pull this off

I was scared that Dharamshala match would be dead rubber, but no.. we are winning this. :kohli2

This is bad news for Aussies for the remained of the series, ASHWIN HAS WOKEN UP FROM HIS DEEP SLEEP... This will be brutal from next test onwards......

Both teams will be hoping and praying for 5 days cricket there! I really can't think that pitch behaving like this! But who knows I didn't expect this from Bangalore either!

even if you give ball to Rahane on this track he would get plenty of wickets. you just need land on one of cracks and pitch will do the rest.

A half-fit Ahswin picking up 6 wickets. Now this is what you call GREAT. :warne #ATG

Nathan Lyon bowled 33 overs. Couldn't pick one in the second inning !

I am surprised how people were convinced Australia were gonna win. Australia doesn't have a single batsman other than Smith and Renshaw who can play spin. Even 150 would've been impossible to chase in 4th innings. Australia won first test because of their bowling

Anyway, unless O'keefe and Lyon repeats 1st test performance India is clear favourites to win series. About time Kohli fires as well

sensible-indian-fan what did i say the future ATG Ashwin is back.

Scroll through the day 2 commentary thread and you will learn one thing. Whether its Indian or Pakistani fans, PPers won't eschew their wrist slitting ways.

It's not difficult to see what encourage this. If you get it right, you can fall back on 'i told you so', if not, you can enjoy your team's win :)

While that may be true, it is also true that Indian pacers picked up 3 of the first 4 Aussie wickets.

Congrats India great fightback. Top game good watching.

They did, but now that India has found their confidence and won't be anymore complacent, Australia will likely be pummeled by Ashwin and Jadeja. All batsmen except Smith and Renshaw were walking wickets

Indian pacers deserve credit for the initial breakthroughs..

I never thought we will win after first days display. Good fightback from pujara and rahane made it possible

Yadav is making a case for being considered the best pacer from the SC, and maybe even the top 3 in the world.

Aus bowling and fielding is top notch. Pitches are also bowling friendly so both battings will struggle

Yadav is actually fulfilling his potential finally. Has been extremely unlucky with dropped catches, or his stats would look even better.

Wow

Almost an unbelievable victory.

Ha

I knew Rahul is quality quality batsman, but I was getting impatient with his constant failures. Great game by him, probably man of the match. Need to keep improving his temperament.

I think Rahul's main problem is his inability to switch quickly from LOIs to tests.

Great inning by Pujara. He doesn't get any IPL money, maybe BCCI should pay him some good extra award money for that crucial knock like they paid Shami for playing WC 2015 & missing out IPL.

Test match win like this after overcoming deficit of 87 runs on this tricky pitch is very crucial.

Winning the toss was key though.

He is trying too hard to establish himself as an all-format player. Once he feels confident about his place in the team, he should be doing a lot better.

Rahul is playing in a different league compared to the rest in this series. 3 fifties in 4 digs is good to see as he is hit or miss previously

sensible-indian-fan what did i say the future ATG Ashwin is back.

Well...I sure as hell didn't expect him to do this well.

Combination of using overspin, seam facing fine leg (like Lyon did) and the fact that he didn't have to bowl long spells seems to have helped him.

Sif why vijay didn't play? Injured or dropped? I didnt follow the game for the first 2 days

Injured.

That's why you back players with ability.

Sachin averaged just 35 for a couple of years when he started and then he kicked on and averaged 65 in 90s.

Rahul has been too inconsistent but he has the quality to kick on so team invests in him.

Think of like how England persisted with Ben Stokes who had ****** stats for a long time but now he is becoming more consistent in ODI and becoming an impact player in tests.

WHAT A TEST MATCH!!!

2004 Mumbai all over again! Totally nostalgic.
Well Mumbai was more treacherous, must more, in fact the most difficult wicket I've seen for tests in India ever. This seemed like a slow mo version of Mumbai, that game IIRC ended up well inside 3 days, the first day was truncated due to rain.

You are a legend.

Too many things clicked for us. No one expected Ash to bowl so well. But your prediction about Aus scoring 120 (new thread) was true.

Aussies missed their chance yesterday, as soon as the leading got passed a 100, the Ind were going to win. The Aussies have 2 excellent bats; Smith and Warner and the rest are so and so.

Yeah but surely they would have won if the target was just 100-120.

No way we were defending that.

Even 180 was defended due to extreme focus which resulted in Aus derailing after a point.

What a Test & turn around - great, great win. Kudos to the hosts.

Now the series will spice up

This is what Test cricket is all about ...when you see two teams fighting so hard , it gives a meaning to the game ! when you are passionate about something then only that passion flows through to the fans ! Seeing two such passionate teams brings out the best in cricket.
Sledging , potshots these are parts of any sport and yes despite of cricket being quite a gentle game, We do need some things to spice it up and no controversies is not what I am talking about . It's the type of cricket these two countries play against each other - When you play so hard , and you are passionate about winning - tempers flare and your raw emotions come out ! Brilliant stuff , Well done India !

Not surprised
Aus didn't really bat well in the first innings and India did well in their second inning
Felt they only needed 150ish to trouble them

AMAZING WINNNNNN

And never doubt Bradman again :ashwin

That said the test showed Kohli has long way to go as far as tactics go.Leads from the front and backs players but his use of Jaddu was aweful even if he got away with it

I thought Aus would easily win this.

For the first time Aus was under pressure in this series and they wilted. :ashwin

I also thought we will be humiliated the entire series going by first day performance and when aus took a lead of 87.but pujara and rahane had different ideas and their partnership is the game changer

He dropped a catch, missed a stumping and a couple of byes but after from that he has been excellent this match

Ghanta pedigree.

Are you watching Ash bowl?

If this was a fully fit peak Ashwin, I would have confidence. This version needs luck to bowl good spells.

Umesh is doing well....Jaddu is tight....Ashwin somehow managed a wicket....so right now, India maybe a touch ahead.

Not sure if you have mentioned it somewhere. I am just skimming through some posts and wanted to touch base regarding ashwin's change in tactics.

Suddenly after lunch, he started bowling the top spinner (the one he bowled to Jake ball in mumbai and never bowled again). I spotted it instantly. Once he started getting the loop and bounce, then it was just a matter of time. M Marsh, Wade and Starc fell prey to an amazing piece of bowling.

My point being we are being harsh on ash. He is not a one trick pony. Yes, he has problems with injury and isnt able to put as much body as he would have liked and unable t give it a good old tweak, but he did find a way to get wickets and I respect that. He needs to get his opp spin back ASAP. The one he was a master of in SL 2015.

Great turnaround

What a win...

This is the thing about test matches in Asia.

Game can change on its head at drop of a hat

Gotta say he surprised me today. Showed a lot of character and heart to win it for India.

I never said Ash was a one trick pony. But issue isn't that. When you are not fully able, nothing you do will be that effective. And even if you do something, you won't be able to keep up the intensity for long.

You are right about Ashwin's tactics but along with that, what needs to mentioned is that he bowled well in that spell which made his tactics work. Luckily it wasn't a long spell and that helped him.

Ironically, Lyon learned from Ashwin before coming to India and in the end, Ashwin had to learn from Lyon. :P

As for his best, you feel the SL version was the best. I feel his WI version was the best (albeit a bit inaccurate). Combine those 2 and we will have a excellent bowler. ;-)

Immediate need of the hour for ash is to find a middle ground. Either he is brilliant or rubbish. Even after taking warners wicket, he was going at 5 an over. Needs to realize if he doesn't get wickets, at least needs to bowl tight and keep the batsmen quiet.

Seems to be a confidence thing. He probably was not confident of trying out the top spinner against smith. Once it started coming out nicely vs Marsh, there was no stopping him. Starc ball was absolute beauty. Nothing he could do actually. Whoever talked him into changing tactics (most likely Kumble) did a great job.

This is getting exciting. The only sore point is debut venues both up next and India usually do not perform well in such debut venues. Right now, after that collapse, I am sure momentum is with us. Game on!

I was watching the match and when India got out I went to sleep thinking this is over , it was quite late at night as well actually but wow , shocked to see the news this morning ! Bloody hell I wished I stayed up for this !

Are you Indian or Aussie or neutral?

Smith and Saha's catches were the highlights of the match..

Everyone cant be the same.Jaddu is required to be more sedate economical bowler whereas Ashwin role is to go for wickets even if it costs runs

Only thing is Jaddu should be used more :)
