What's new

India (249/9) defeat New Zealand (205) by 45 runs to fix a clash with Australia in the first semi-final of ICC Champions Trophy 2025

Mind boggling selection of Shami will hurt us. It is infuriating to watch playing a completely unfit player like Shami with Arshdeep in the bench
Shami should get fit and only play Test cricket.
Arshdeep is 10 x the player that shami is right now.
Both Arshdeep and Varun are match winners and both should play semis.

Not just zampa…they have got Maxwell and head too…Maxwell is no longer a part timer…he is the reason India lost WC final, look at his stats in that match…he destroyed India…Dubai pitch is ideal for him.
He's a handy option but you can't compare him to India's spinners

yes on paper India should beat Australia relatively easily. But i am worried about form. of the seniors. It is not peak kohli, shami, Rohit. Jaddu never had a peak in ICC events. KL Rahul never had either. But one good thing is there is no SKY in this unit. India plays 8 batsmen. playing 7 batsmen hurt us badly for long. ANother thing is Australia has never beaten India in an ICC event whenever they played Pandya. 4-0 India so far with pandya.
New zealeand have serious trouble vs pandya and iyer weirdly

And SA have never beaten India at all in champions trophy

0 4 thrashing

There is no better street-smart player than Pandya. He was the main guy in the WT20 2024 final. Even in the CT 2017 final, he was the one who stepped up. He is opposite of KL Rahul in handling pressure. Pant was another guy. But they keep going back to KL Rahul.

Whenever india win , every team had choked sir. Otherwise india can't Even win against any Team .
:)

:kp
LOL... You took the kiwis part and missed the next sentence. India bowled really well but chasing 250 but something Kiwis should have achieved but yeah, they choked (does not matter though)

India has the best bowling attack in the world. Complete wicket taking spin attack in the opening, middle, death overs and pacers who bowl with discipline, bowling iq, to their fields inspite of having limitations unlike the Akhroat trio of Shaheen, Naseem, Naseem who just turn up to bowl without any plan, thought process and zero progressive learning for the last 6 years.

Most professional organizations within a few years eventually decide whether an employee is worth investing in or not, keeping them on their payroll or whether it is better to part ways. Pakistani players are the luckiest in the world where they have a unique employer who not only puts up with their mediocrity but also rewards them for it. Babar in the real outside world goes unsold in the Hundred and not even considered for the Vitality Blast, CPL, Big Bash, ILT20, SAT20 but only in Pakistan we have the nerve to insult Kohli by mentioning his name alongside his.

Is that so? I knew he was not picked for 100 but I thought he opted out from other leagues.

He never got an offer. I don't blame them, he is no longer a limited overs player let alone a T20 player. He offers nothing when faced against a good bowling attack and an elite fielding unit, he doesn't have the balls or ability to hit over the field.

Ravi Ashwin said on his YouTube channel:

"I have to say this: top-class scouting, top-class analysis for Varun Chakravarthy against Daryl Mitchell. He was not allowed to step out. He did not read the turn, and he was not able to step down. India wonderfully cut down his scoring options, having fielders to cut down his sweeps and reverse sweeps."

"I don't think playing Varun is a risk. I think they are not able to read him at all. He is not beating batters on the outside edge, and that's why I am not able to understand why they are not able to decipher him. What is setting him apart? It's the amount of revs that is allowing the ball to drop. It's not dropping at 89 kph; it's dropping at high 90s. It's unbelievable skill."

Wasim Akram said on a TV show:

“Doesn’t matter how much you praise Team India, it will be less. They won six out of their last six ODIs, including a three-match series against England. If you look at their recent ICC record, they have lost just one out of 14 ODIs, that one (2023 ODI World Cup) final against Australia."

That shows the depth and confidence in the team and themselves. They read the wicket well, and layed four spinners. Many people said four spinners should not have been there, but there was no need.”

“We could understand with great difficulty. New Zealand batters could not understand anything… against such a spinner you can only read through his hands, if you can’t then you will be forced to keep guessing. Their spinners bowled 37 overs, took nine wickets, and hhadan economy of 4.42. I don’t think you can chase 250 against them… Almost 40 overs by spinners.”

“If we see at all four semi-finalists, the complete team is only India. All bases are covered for them. Spinners, pacer, maybe there’s some chink, but their batting, on this pitch although they lost three wickets and then built a partnership and then Jadeja and Pandya chipping in with contribution from lower-order and score 250 on this pitch. Probably if it was some other team and the way New Zealand bowled, it would have been tough to score 250."

reason india lost final wasnt maxwell ..it was bkl rahul and kohlis snoozefest , head's awesome luck vs shami in initial few overs and unnecessary pitch tinkering by bcci.

While the pitch assisted spin, I don't like the Ahmedabad surface. It is heavily loaded against team batting second. In the first innings through the WC the batting wasn't that easy. The only reason we played there was because of our PM and the capacity. I would have rather played in Mumbai which is a good wicket to bat on and the bowlers have something for them as well. India losing the toss did not help as well. Remember the first game of the WC NZ chased 282 in 36 overs. It was a poor decision to hold the final there. In the past Govt was only restricted to making decisions about whether we play Pakistan or not but recently they are taking call where we should play big games. Sad state of affairs which cost India the WC. Can't blame KL or Virat, even if India had scored 300, Australia would have coasted to that as well.
