What's new

India (277/7) beat Sri Lanka (275/9) by 3 wickets in the 2nd ODI at Colombo

However he may have hurt his hamstring in the process.

Pandya brothers should learn something from Chahar. Guys like Shardul, Sundar and now Chahar keep outperforming them. :inti

Some dreams shattered here :)))

guess what Pak main team still lost to Eng C :P

SL will have to wait for some more time to win an ODI against us at home.

It was nonetheless a great fight back by Sri Lanka.

You should be proud to have taken the match this deep against India. :14: Well done. The futute is bright.

Same match bro...just that my understanding of a cricket match is superior.

Great analysis and prediction. I believe there is a lot for some of the guys here to learn. I think you can probably guide them by maybe providing some online training sessions at an affordable cost so they learn and improve :inti

Haha.. look at Mickey mouse mouthing off! Not cool for a coach to lose his cool like that.

Congrats Indian fans. Another series won!

Feel sad for Mickey. It's a young team, yes, but they just keep repeating the same mistakes. It's alright if they learn from old ones and make new ones, but these guys just fall into the same trap again and again.

When the pressure was on, they went for taking the game deep rather than bowing Hasaranga and trying to get Chahar/Bhuvi out. Poor, poor move that.

Chahar take a bow. Timed his innings to perfection, and like always when you take it deep anything can happen and anything did! Bhuvi showed great maturity too, not trying to match Chahar shot to shot and just stuck it out there.

Dhoni's legacy on display there.

I agree SL is a poor team but great temparement shown by India. This is the hallmark of an elite team....when chips are down someone will stand up and win the game. We have seen it in Australia and now here. Terrific stuff and commiserations to Srilanka

Poor captaincy cost sri lanka the match.
There was no need to bowl out sadkan and rajitha, who were the most expensive bowlers

Deepak Chahar's fine all-round display with both bat and ball helped the visitors gain an unassailable 2-0 lead in the ODI series in Colombo.

Chasing a target of 276, openers Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan went all guns blazing for India, notching up 26 runs in the first two overs. But the stand didn't last long as the introduction of spin saw the early dismissal of Shaw on 13, as Wanindu Hasaranga celebrated a big scalp.

Ishan Kishan then soon followed suit as he went for a booming drive against Kasun Rajitha, but only managed to inside-edge the ball onto the stumps. The onus was now on India's two most experienced campaigners – skipper Dhawan and Manish Pandey to get the visitors through troubled waters.

Dhawan though, could not repeat his exploits from the first match, as he was trapped in front of his stumps by Hasaranga on 29.

Pandey and Suryakumar Yadav then established a 50-run stand, while adapting the aggressive approach to counter-attack the Lankan bowlers. Pandey though was unfortunate as he was run-out on the non-striker's end as Dasun Shanaka managed to get his fingers on the ball before it hit the stumps from a Suryakumar drive, while he was caught off-guard outside his crease.

Hardik Pandya was then dismissed for a duck as India were left with their backs against the wall. Suryakumar and Krunal Pandya's stand of 44 then kept the game alive for the visitors, before the former was dismissed after bringing up his half-century.

Pandya was the next batsman to be dismissed on 35 after he got off to a good start. With seven wickets back in the shed, Sri Lanka were now looking confident of overturning a nine-match losing streak against India in home conditions.

Deepak Chahar then took matters into his own hands, unleashing a flurry of strokes to put the pressure back onto the Lankans. He was ably supported by Bhuvneshwar Kumar at the other end, as he played the anchor role to perfection. Chahar brought up his maiden ODI half-century, as the match hung finely in the balance.

Chahar scored an unbeaten 69 and Bhuvneshwar Kumar chipped in with a handy 19* as the Sri Lankan bowlers were taken aback with the India fightback. With five deliveries remaining, India sealed a three-wicket victory and therefore gained an unreachable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Earlier in the contest, Sri Lanka got off to a steady if not spectacular start after a 77-run stand by their openers Avishka Fernando and Minod Bhanuka. But they then started losing wickets in quick succession as Yuzvendra Chahal's twin-strikes in the 14th overturned the match on its shoulders.

Soon finding themselves stuttering around at 134/4, it was Charith Asalanka's knock that injected some much-needed momentum into the Lankan innings. His knock of 65 off only 68 deliveries, along with a quick-fire 33-ball 44 by Chamika Karunanratne allowed the hosts to post a competitive total of 275/9 on the board.

Avishka Fernando (50) and Dhananjaya de Silva (32) made also made vital contributions for the hosts. For India, Yuzvendra Chahal was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/50 in his 10 overs.

Sri Lanka showing that when you get so used to losing, you bottle it and put yourself under ten times more pressure when you have a chance of winning. Pakistan is in the same boat.

This was an outright robbery by our lower order yesterday night.

Congrats india for not giving up and commiserations to those who dint give a chance of win. Some posters are seriously getting exposed of their cricketing knowledge

Winning is also a nice habit. Even the tail enders don't give up when they know we are supposed to win this.

I'd rather watch the live stream of India's practice match at Durham vs the County XI.
Even our main players like Kohli & Ashwin were checking the progress of this game when they got the chance!

Deepak Chahar scored his maiden half-century as India sealed the three-match One-Day International series against Sri Lankawith a thrilling win in the second game on Tuesday. Deepak Chahar's knock (69 not out) not only kept fans on the edge but he also managed to keep regular India skipper Virat Kohli, head coach Ravi Shastri and other members of the Test squad, who are in Durham preparing for the upcoming five-Test series against England, glued to the screen. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took to Twitter to share a video in which members of Team India were seen cheering for Dhawan's men during the 2nd ODI. "When #TeamIndia in Durham cheered for #TeamIndia in Colombo. From dressing room, dining room and on the bus, not a moment of this memorable win was missed. #SLvIND," the video was captioned.

Daylight robbery by our trundling army of Chahar and Bhuvi. Sri Lankans seemed to have lost the art of winning. May be in T20Is they will beat us as similar looking names of Bhanupaksha/Hasaranga/Shanaka etc blanked the No. 1 ranked Pakistan in Pakistan by 3-0 margin.
Event last ODI they may pull a surprise.

Deepak Chahar reveals how MS Dhoni's impact and Rahul Dravid's confidence played a role in his batting

Deepak Chahar has revealed that he learnt the art of chasing from MS Dhoni and it was the confidence shown by Rahul Dravid which played a major role in his batting.

Deepak Chahar, star of the second ODI, who played a scintillating knock of 69 not out to steer India home in a thrilling chase, revealed he learnt the art of chasing from none other than MS Dhoni. Chahar was nurtured into the bowler that is he now playing under Dhoni at Chennai Super Kings, but as it turns out, it was the impact of the former India captain that allowed the fast bowler to develop his batting skills, especially under pressure.

"Watching MS Dhoni close out matches has been a big factor. I have watched him for a long period and I have always seen him finishing matches," Chahar said during a virtual press conference on the eve of the third ODI against Sri Lanka. "When you talk to him, he always tells you to take the game deep. Everyone wants us to win, but when the match goes deep, it is thrilling for everyone involved."

Besides Dhoni, another former India player Chahar credits for showing confidence in his batting is coach Rahul Dravid. Chahar revealed that Dravid was highly instrumental in showing faith in his batting due to the several handy knocks for India A he has played over the years, which have come in similar circumstances.

"Rahul Dravid is coaching the senior side for the first time, but he has been there with the A side and I have played under his guidance and coaching. There have been times that a situation has arisen of the batsmen being dismissed and me being out there in the middle," Chahar added.

"I have played good knocks for India A and that is why Rahul sir has the confidence in me. It always helps you when the coach backs you. It is always there at the back of your mind that the coach backs you."
