India [474] beat Afghanistan [109 & 103] by an innings and 262 runs in one-off Test match

No. It was a disgusting performance by SL when they did it and we shouldn't go down that path. It only breeds illwill. Even Rahul Dravid who is so docile in his opinions was mad about that and wanted badly to give SL the same treatment years later - don't recall the details. Recall him speaking about this somewhere.

What happened?

Supporting India in this game. I hope they post a 700+ total and get Afghanistan out under 200
in both innings.

Looks one sided at the moment. Hope, Afghans put up a good score with the bat. How is the pitch playing?

If Rahne has to stamp himself in elite class, he has to improve his spin play by some level. Really surprising to see an Indian batsman so good against pace & movement compared to sports n play.

Must be a really flat wicket. Scorecard suggests spinners took a beating. You would expect that on a first day pitch but still, you need your premier spinner to able to contain a bit more, even on a pancake in India. Of course, it is his first test match and hopefully he can improve and become more consistent, which is the key word for a test match spinner.

Having said that, I am a big fan of Afghanistan cricket and think they have achieved a helluva lot in a very short time. If they invest well, I hope to see them become major players in world cricket. They are a bit like Pak tbh. I predict them producing some fiery fast bowlers in the future, alongside their talented spinners, just like Pak do.

Rashid is making Pujara dance in the crease. And a easy catch dropped in first slip..

India's batting line up is too long. 500 should be easily breached. Uphill battle for Afghans and will hope rains wash out the game

Glad to hear that. although I am very doubtful their batting line up will have to compete, I would like to see their bowling line up show at least some sparks, demonstrate potential to be competitive in this department.

331/5, what a session for Afghanistan. Even 400 looking difficult now.

Rahane continues to be terrible in India, Pujara's struggles continues

Afghan bowlers starting to get the hang of it. Their bowlers need to learn the art of patience and bowling a consistent length.

Will be a positive if they bowl India out for below 425.

What are India doing - never a run there.

Needless run out. Afghans have their sixth wicket.

Much better passage of play from Afghanistan. Rashid bowling the right lengths.

When did u expect this? :asad2

They have magic spinners. In Tests it is slightly different. But don't rule out a mini collapse or two given that current Indian batting line up is not exactly great against spin. - i posted this on another thread. 3 wickets to spinners for 30 to 40 runs

Yes, Very high quality spin bowling. Quite possibly the best spin attack any test nation has ever had when making a debut.

It's already game over for Afghanistan, India past 350 on day 1 with wickets in hand. Afghanistan will likely struggle to get to 250.

India improving their record by beating minnows :srt

Afganistan will remember India forever as their first test opponent as like Bangladesh. Its history now.Mean minded people always going to remember minnows, their favorite word is minnow and they love to talk about minnow :sammy

India will begin Day 2 of the only Test against Afghanistan at 347/6. The tourist made a late surge on Day 1 capturing 5 wickets and would be hoping to continue in that direction to dismiss India under 400.

The casual approach of Indian middle order continues. Each one of them has thrown away their wicket. Credit to the Afghan bowlers as well for toiling in first two sessions and then getting their act together since then.

I hope Afghanistan bat fearlessly and run us close.

Rashid will be a fine test bowler against most teams in helpful conditions especially. Some of his balls are yet to be decoded.

I think one of Pujara/Rahane has to give way for K.Nair & others (like Iyer). Pujara by now should have got matured to handle different situations. When there's easy opponent/easy pitch he has to score freely... But he plays the same way/same dimension always, just blocking... (Dravid was not like that!) Pujara was not like this before, in fact he was trying to get into even LOIs few years back by playing more freely! On the other hand Rahane definitely looks clueless in home test matches, and its not a case of form anymore, it is definitely about skills! India will look to have Pandya at No.6 consistently to have that additional spinner/pacer... There's competition even for a guy like Rahul for the opener spot, so Pujara/Rahane should sort it out quickly!

India have moved on to 391/7. I was disappointed in the way the Indian batting performed in this game. After Dhawan and Vijay got it, it seems like the batting was disinterested in staying in the middle.

Pujara has struggled overseas but I would give him the benefit of doubt because of two important innings he played on difficult wickets against SL and SA. Rahane will come good overseas. This wicket in Bangalore wasn't the typical Indian wicket. This is a good wicket where pacers are getting pace and bounce and spinners are getting good bounce. So I would have expected to Rahane to come good. I am unhappy with Rahul, don't remember when he scored his last 100, keeps getting out after scoring 50's.

Even if they somehow find a few good batsmen to support their decent bowling their fielding will pull them down big time. It is very amaturish. A ball edges through slips. Three guys are racing to get that ball. Why? Also slip catching/ keeping is poor due to poor technique.

Good to see Pandya fighting hard. Gets a lot of unnecessary flak because of his attitude but he's developing alright in Tests. Long way to go though for being called a world class allrounder

Lol... Jadeja...wasted his wicket. :out:

Afghan should finish off this tail. I really don't see this Indian batsmen surviving in England with this attitude...

This has been an amazing debut from Afghanistan. Getting Indian all out in their home for around 450 in your debut test.

Great performance !

This wicket is not at all easy to bat, the thing is literally everyone has scored runs

Rashid Khan gets tough introduction to Test Cricket :)

There's no Kane Williamson or SRH Management to guide him! After all this is the result of the great training he got at "root" levels as claimed by some people! You should not give any kind of credit to the non-sense T20 league and the support at highest level by the stupid BIG board!

Well bowled by Afghanistan, bowling India out rather than them declaring

Ab Fan take it easy, there ground fielding may be one of the best but there catching is one of the worst, you need further proof just wait for the England series. Pak has better fielding how weird that sound, and it can be backed up by stats.

india is going to win it easily with an innings and 100 runs..afghan should play Bangladesh initially to boast their confidence up to some extent.

Pak's slip catching in Tests could be better than us.Ours is horrendous barring Rahane.

Not today, with Kohli not on the pitch our catching and slip fielding is very good. It's only when the chump comes in and tries to act like he is a great fielder that the level goes down.

Ishant's 2 wickets - 2 middle stump knockouts, and his length & ball movement.. Hardik's brilliant run out and well composed 71.. Wow! My Friday mornings can't get any better than this. Test cricket at it's best.

He has bowled really full. And on stumps. Brilliant.

Ground fielding is arguably the best- I recall many instances when they have run out the opposition outta nowhere.

However, I agree that catching isn't good particularly in longer format but it is better than what it is for Pakistan. I recall tons of instances where Pakistani fielders have dropped catches in slips and gully and that is the reason why most Pak fans always feel that their fast bowlers, like Mohammad Amir, get hard done due to so many dropped catches and tbf they are very much correct to an extent.

You bet! Did you just see Jadeja's pickup and throw? Pandya and jadeja are right on top of best 10 fielders of World Cricket currently.

Bangladesh will eat them alive in tests. They look an awful test side.
