India announce their 15-member 2023 World Cup squad

Hardik Pandya will be a huge loss if his injury is a bad one.

The sort of player that all teams need in their line-up.

Do we really need Shreyas Iyer in a big tournament like the World Cup?
Every time he gets out to short balls, he have no clue how to play a short ball. He is useless unless we play on a proper spin track.

The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 has approved Prasidh Krishna as a replacement for Hardik Pandya in the India squad.

Krishna, who has played 17 ODIs, was named as a replacement after Pandya was ruled out of the tournament, failing to recover from an injury to his left ankle during the league match against Bangladesh on 19 October.

The replacement of a player requires the approval of the Event Technical Committee before the player can be officially added to the squad.

The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 consists of Wasim Khan (ICC General Manager – Cricket and ETC Chair), Chris Tetley (ICC Head of Events), Hemang Amin (Acting CEO - BCCI), Gaurav Saxena (General Manager – Operations, BCCI), Russel Arnold and Simon Doull (Independent Representatives).

It's a real blow, India needs to create backup seamer allrounders

Hardik's injury puts this team in a spot of bother as SKY has failed to do the job as specialist batsman and Iyer has failed vs good teams regularly. Jadeja has been good with bowl but with bat, he is neither consistent nor impactful.

That middle order is highly dependable on KL Rahul who can easily produce a failure in knockout.

This is a big loss for us going into the knockout stages of the tournament.

They should try Kishan against SA and Ned

They should have gone for jaiswal and beefed up the top order than a bowler who will not get any chance. We don't have any middle order batsmen and we can't trust the sky.He is too unreliable in odi.

Shouldn't they have selected Axar ahead of Prasidh considering he's fit now?

I don't quite understand the thought process behind the selection. We need a reliable batsman and a guy who can bowl 7-8 overs. Axar is in the form of his life with bat and a very good bowler and batsman on these tired worn out pitches.

If losing hardik wasn't enough, this selection blunder is making it look even more worse.

I don't think Axar is fully fit

Oh okay, I read somewhere that he's recovered. Then I could be mistaken. Even then shouldn't they go for a like for like replacement or maybe a better batsman? The only thought process I can think of, behind the selection of Prasidh is that they want to give some rest to Bumrah during Nederlands match.

'Swelling had resurfaced on Thursday...': BCCI official reveals inside details leading to Hardik's World Cup rule out

The all-rounder was reportedly set to return for knockout matches with India being the only side in the tournament so far to qualify for the semis, and according to BCCI sources privy to developments at the NCA, Hardik had resumed his training in Bengaluru. However, the swelling on his left ankle had resurfaced again on Thursday which implied that wouldn't be fit to bowl anytime soon.

"As it has been said earlier, Pandya doesn't have any fracture and only had minor tear. He had resumed training but suddenly considerable amount of swelling developed in left ankle region and he wouldn't have been fit to bowl.

"This is not some injury which could be managed with injections. Considerable swelling resurfaced on Thursday and unless it subsides, he can't do skills training for some more time," the official told PTI on condition of anonymity.

The report further added that BCCI had three contenders to replace Hardik - left-handed batter Tilak Varma, wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson and pacer Prasidh. With Shardul Thakur and R Ashwin already in the Indian squad, the management wasn't interested in a like-for-like replacement. Meanwhile, with Ishan Kishan in the team as well, who was a left-handed batter and a wicketkeeper, Tilak and Samson fell behind in the race leaving Prasidh as the lone choice.

Prasidh isn't a good replacement for Pandya. We needed to beef up our batting, not bowling.

We already have an extra batter in Kishan. On the other hand , only 3 quicks in the squad. Thakur can't bowl 10 overs. So we needed the extra fast bowler.

My point is, our bowling is firing on all cylinders. However, batting is being handled by a few batsmen with no one good at bench. As for Ishan, he is unreliable.

Then the issue is with the spare batter keeper that was selected no? Fast bowlers need rotation too?

If ,God forbid, Shami or Siraj or Bumrah has a niggle before KO's, we will be forced to play Thakur.
