Come today, all roads in Mumbai will lead to the Wankhede for the opening match of the Unacademy Road Safety World Series between the Sachin Tendulkar-led India Legends and Brian Lara-led West Indies Legends.

It will be an emotional moment for Tendulkar who will be playing at Wankhede for the first time since he retired in November 13, 2013.

The match also gains significance because it will be played to create awareness towards Road safety which kills one person every four minutes on Indian roads.

Interestingly Tendulkar's last international match was also against the same opponents that his team will be facing on the morrow.

This encounter, billed as the “Sachin versus Lara contest” has generated a lot of interest in the build-up and the fans are eagerly waiting to see the Master back in action with his trademark cover drive leading to that chant of “Sachhin Sacchin” rendering in the air.

The Indian team had an extensive practice session at CCI today morning with all players getting together to do what they have been doing best for most part of their life.

But with age on the other side India's 2011 World Cup winning team hero Yuvraj Singh said: “The body is tired but we will give our best with whatever is remaining. Quite a few members of the Indian World Cup winning squad is here and it is an excellent feeling to be back with the same group on the field.”

Good to see the great Australian legend Nathan Reardon, with his grand total of 2 international games, make the squad :srt

The remaining matches of the Road Safety World Series will be played behind closed doors at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai starting March 13 when South Africa Legends take on Sri Lanka Legends in a revised schedule due to the rising concerns over coronavirus in the country.

The decision has been taken as the most responsible course of action, to protect the health and safety of the players, staff and spectators.

The numbers of cases in Maharashtra are escalating and as a result, the organising committee unanimously agreed that the third leg of the series, which was scheduled to be held in Pune from March 14 to 20, be relocated to DY Patil Stadium and played behind closed doors along with the remaining games at the same venue and the final.

Earlier on Wednesday, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic and expressed deep concern both by the alarming levels of spread and severity and by the alarming levels of inaction.

The central government has suspended all visas to India till April 15 as part of measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in India has jumped to 60.

Watching Tendulkar bat even in the nets and these exhibition tournaments is a special feeling.

After watching these matches I am.once again reminded Tendulkar is by far the biggest cricketing icon since Bradman.

Virat Kohli will never evoke these passion and emotions among cricket fans even Indians let alone among global fans which Tendulkar still does. He played Elysse Perry for one over a month ago and the respect he gets from Aussie fans Kohli will never get that

Seems like tournament restarted and Viru smashed Bangla legends to death.. He really don't like BD at all..

The most entertaining and celebrated opening pair of Indian history back to doing what they are best at.

Whatever happened to the All-Star Series that took place in the US many years ago? I quite enjoyed that and was hoping for more editions in the succeeding years but it never happened again.

I am working from home , I have had some of the games on in the background and I have enjoyed the bits I have seen.

Road Safety World Series: All-round India Legends storm into final

Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India], March 17 (ANI): Sachin Tendulkar-led India Legends stormed into the finals of the first edition of the Road Safety World Series T20 after beating West Indies Legends by 13 runs at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday evening. It was none other than captain and crowd favourite Tendulkar who led the way with a stylish half-century after Virender Sehwag's entertaining cameo and before Yuvraj Singh 's six-hitting spree.Chasing 219 to win, the Windies were restricted to 206 for 6 in 20 overs by India.Needing 24 in 12 balls, Indian seamers R Vinay Kumar and Irfan Pathan bowled their heart out to help their win which was once going the visitors' way.

Vinay Kumar took two wickets of -- captain Brian Lara (46) and Tino Best at a crucial juncture in the 18th over that brought them back into the game.Earlier, Dwayne Smith (63) and Narsingh Deonarine (59 not out) half-centuries went in vain as Windies were knocked out of the tournament.Earlier put into bat first by West Indies on a batting beauty, the Indian Legends' dominating show with the bat saw them post another 200 plus target in the second successive game.Riding on Tendulkar's half-century and Yuvraj's entertaining 20-ball 49 not out which had six sixes and a four saw India score 218 for three in 20 overs.Other than Tendulkar and Yuraj's crucial knocks, Sehwag (35), Yusuf Pathan (37) and Mohd Kaif (27) contributed with the bat, too.

India were off to a rollicking start with Sehwag taking on the attack from ball one by driving left-arm spinner Suleiman Benn through covers. It was no stopping for Sehwag who was in an attacking mood while Tendulkar took his time.Sehwag didn't spare the bowlers when they pitched in his zone. The duo went on to get a half-century partnership for the opening wicket before Sehwag gave a return catch to seamer Tino Best.Later, Tendulkar continuing from the last game cracked another half-century. He also had a 53-run partnership with Kaif before the latter was dismissed by Ryan Austin. On course for a century, Tendulkar chipped Best's full delivery which went to Kirk Edwards, who came up with a brilliant effort at deep point.

Yuvraj and Yusuf, later, destroyed the Windies attack in the death overs with some big hits. The stylish south-paw slammed six sixes in the last two overs. The 19th oversaw Yuvraj hit leggie Mahendra Nagamootoo for four hits over the rope while the next two came in the last over of Suleiman Benn.Despite those big hits, Yuvraj was stranded at 49 not out. But India were comfortably placed at 218 for 3 in 20 overs.Brief scores: India Legends 218/3 in 20 overs ( Sachin Tendulkar 65, Yuvraj Singh 49*, Yusuf Pathan 37*, Virender Sehwag 35, Mohd Kaif 27; Tino Best 2/25) beat West Indies Legends 206/6 in 20 overs ( Dwayne Smith 63, Narsingh Deonarine 59*, Brian Lara 46; R Vinay Kumar 2/26) by 12 runs.

Another Pro Indian example of how cricket can exist without Pakistan lol

Is this also being held via a bio secure bubble?
Lots of crowd as well.

Or there is no covid-19 in this tournament?

India batting first. Yuvi and Yusuf in good form both 50+ still batting. India 162/3 in 18 overs.

This is another innovation. tournament happening in a ice stadium in small city of Raipur, full of spectators, unlike Ind- Eng series.

People are fortunate to see Tendulkar, Sehwag, Yuvi, Jayasuriya, Lara, Jonty stores, antoni, Dishan, Kalivitharna playing once again.

Full of spectators? Who is organising it? Is Raipur Corona free now? :inti

Jayasuriya can still hit the ball pretty well. This Lankan team looks lot better than their current one. :inti

Wow jayasuriya. Some things never change. Jayasuriya hitting the ball pretty well. :inti

Great match! One more trophy for Tendulkar. I hope Legends become a regular event with more countries next time. Professionally managed event with full stadium (don’t ask how), HD telecast, top sponsors and Indian/overseas commentators. Even Tempers rose when final match became tough LOL.

Great event to promote cricket with younger crowd who have probably never seen Lara, Jayasuriy, even Tendulkar, playing in a real match.

The whole tournament with superstars from all around the world was successfully executed in one of the poorest states without any fuss or covid positive case. No scandals, no visas issues.

BCCI might be selfish and evil but it’s brutally professional and knows how to get things done.

Hope others learn from BCCI. By others, I mean Indian hockey/tennis/football/basketball boards.

Dont think its anything to do with BCCI.. Sachin was behind this tournament..

Sachin was the mastermind and proposer but nothing happens in the Indian cricket without BCCI.

Road Safety World Series 2020/21, Final: India Legends vs Sri Lanka Legends – India Legends Win The Crown

Yusuf Pathan and Yuvraj Singh starred as India Legends beat Sri Lanka Legends by 14 runs to clinch the Road Safety World Series title on Sunday in Raipur. Yusuf not only came good with the bat but was also India’s best bowler on display as he picked up two wickets in his four-over spell for 26 runs.

Put in to bat first, India Legends did not get off to a rollicking start like they have been used to in this tournament as Virender Sehwag and Subramanian Badrinath perished early. Yuvraj Singh then joined Sachin Tendulkar and the duo initially took their time and got their eye in before shifting gears.

They stitched 43 runs before Sachin departed for 30 off 23 balls. That is when the momentum of the game shifted when Yusuf Pathan joined a well-set Yuvraj Singh. The two put on an 85-run stand to get India back on track. Yuvraj scored 60 off 41 balls, while Yusuf top-scored with 62* off 36 balls. Yuvraj and Yusuf hit nine sixes between them.

Chasing 182 to win, Sri Lanka Legends got off to a flyer, thanks to Tilakaratne Dilshan and Sanath Jayasuriya. The duo brought up the first fifty in merely 30 balls. But then it was the Pathan brothers who brought India back in the game after Yusuf and Irfan struck in quick successions.

The Pathan brothers picked up four wickets between them while conceding only 55 runs between them in eight overs. That seemed to be the turning point of the game as at one stage the Lankans seemed to be on their way to a win.

Without a doubt, India proved to be the best team throughout the campaign as they lost merely one match against England. It was a well-deserved win for India as Yusuf Pathan was adjudicated the man of the match for his allround performance.

KP could have easily played international cricket till 38-40 with his fitness and game.

I would argue that some of his best years from perspective of having understanding and control of his batting were from 32-33 to 36-37 and unfortunately all of them were wasted in the wastelands of T20 leagues
