That 1% why would they even buy a car like Tesla? Just seems like a poor business decision from both sides.

Just one of those things.
BMW 3 series in the same price range in India right now is a far superior brand to be associated with but that’s like a common luxury car in India. Teslas at least for initial few years will be massive head turners because of all the hype Indians have consumed about it.

At a much lower price tag, Mahindra’s Thar which is the cheaper knock off of Jeep Rubicon also became a head turner for many. Indians purchased these kinda cars for that purpose specifically not paying attention to practicality or value for money.
