Why not take it seriously, this is u19 their ghe future of pak cricket, on top of that its a win vs India, any level be it senior, u19, womens cricket etc.. a win vs India is always special

It's player development that should be taken seriously and winning is only a small part of that at the Junior levels. What's important is that they got to play one of the best Junior teams and stood up and were counted.

Day 4: SRI LANKA STOP SPIRITED NEPAL IN HIGH SCORING CONTEST

Sri Lanka displayed their batting might through centuries from Sadisha Rajapaksa and Chamindu Wickramasinghe to post a huge total of 322 for 4 in 50 overs. Nepal chased the target valiantly and scored 262 runs in 47.5 overs. Sri Lanka won by 60 runs in this high scoring encounter on the fourth day of the ACC Under-19 Asia Cup at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Sri Lanka’s opener Wickramasinghe cracked 111 off 126 balls with eight boundaries and two sixes while one-down batsman Rajapaksa scored 131 off 119 balls with 11 boundaries and two sixes. Nepal chased through Arjun Saud, who top scored with 64 runs. Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana and leg spinner Raveen De Silva restricted Nepal’s innings with three wickets each.

Sri Lanka elected to bat after winning the toss. Openers Wickramasinghe and Shevon Daniel put on 39 runs in 10.1 overs before Daniel got caught and bowled by Nepal skipper Dev Khanal for 17. Rajapaksa joined Wickramasinghe and steadily increased the run rate. In the 16th over Wickramasinghe hit two boundaries off Sher Malla to steer the total past 75 runs.

Rajapaksa used his feet well to pick the gaps and scored at a steady pace. Wickramasinghe was the first to reach his half century in 74 balls. At the half way mark, Sri Lanka were placed at 126 for 1.

Wickramasinghe lifted Malla over long-on for a mighty six in the 26th over. Rajapaksa hit a six off Basir Ahmad and Sri Lanka went past the 200 run mark in the 36th over. Rajapaksa was the first to reach his century in 93 balls. Wickramasinghe too followed reaching his century in 119 deliveries.

Sri Lanka raced towards the 300 run mark with Wickramasinghe hitting his second six off Khanal. Rajapaksa hit consecutive boundaries off Mohammad Aadil Alam in the 43rd over. Then Aadil Alam struck in the same over ending Wickramasinghe’s knock of 111. The pair had put on a whopping 223 runs partnership off 197 deliveries.

Bibek Yadav gave away only six runs in the 44th over while Aadil Alam’s next over yielded just seven runs. Skipper Dunit Wellalage hit successive boundaries off Yadav and steered Sri Lanka past the 300 run mark in the 48th over. Rajapaksa’s innings of 131 ended when he went for a slog shot exposing his wicket to Aadil Alam and got bowled. He had also added another 39 runs with Wellalage for the third wicket. Wellalage remained unbeaten on 34 off 24 balls with three boundaries and a six to help Sri Lanka post 322 for 4 in 50 overs.

Nepal’s openers Dev Khanal and Santosh Karki began confidently, refusing to be affected by the formidable target. Karki played some lovely shots hitting Yasiru Rodrigo for a six and picking boundaries through the gaps. Soon Khanal too began to score freely hitting Pathirana for two boundaries in the ninth over. The pair put on 50 runs in the first ten overs.

Pathirana, who has a sling bowling action similar to the legendary Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga, yorked Karki and got him out for 34 runs. Karki and Khanal had put on 59 runs. At the score on 81, Khanal who was batting confidently , lifted leg spinner Raveen De Silva to mid-wicket for Rajapaksa to produce a brilliant catch. Khanal’s 28 came off 45 ball with four boundaries. Basant Karki, who joined Nepal’s wicketkeeper batsman Arjun Saud became another De Silva victim for 1. When De Silva also removed Bibek Kumar Ranamagar, Nepal slipped to 92 for 4 in 22.2 overs.

Basir Ahmad and Saud refused to be affected by the fall of quick wickets and went for their strokes. Both batsmen hit sixes off De Silva who bowled the 30th over. When Wellalage introduced himself, Ahmad hit him for his second six. Off spinner Shevon Daniel, who was introduced for the 37th over, provided the breakthrough with his fifth delivery by having Ahmad caught by Wanuja Sahan for 43. Ahmad’s knock came off 51 balls with three boundaries and two sixes. He had put on 75 runs off 87 balls with Saud.

Bibek Yadav joined Saud, who reached his half century in 73 balls. Yadav hit Sahan, who bowled the 40th over, for two boundaries and two sixes to take 21 runs off that over. Saud’s knock came to an end when Anjala Bandara ran him out for 64. His knock which came off 80 balls had three boundaries and two sixes, and he had put on 41 runs with Yadav for the sixth wicket.

Pathirana bounced at Gulhsan Kumar and had him caught and bowled for 13. Though Dunith Nethmika got Mohamad Aadil Alam out for 7, Yadav continued to score and Nepal went past the 250 mark in the 45th over. His innings too ended in a run out following a direct hit from the bowler Rodrigo for 46 off 29 balls with three boundaries and three sixes. Pathirana picked this third wicket by dismissing Sher Malla to end Nepal’s challenge.

Rajapaksa, who was adjudged the Player of the Match, said: “I am happy to have contributed to my team’s success. I enjoyed batting with Wickramasinghe who also hit a century and helped our team get a big score. Though I have got many centuries in school’s cricket, this is my first century in such a high level tournament.”

Sri Lankan captain Dunith Wellalage feels his team batted and bowled equally well. “It was good to have two of our batsmen get centuries and our pacer Pathirana also bowled very well. Three of Nepal’s batsmen too batted very well, and overall it was a very good game especially before our match against Bangladesh. We want to improve more and perform well in the coming matches.”

Nepal captain Dev Khanal said he was proud of his team’s performance. “Though we lost I want to give all credit to our team for the excellent fight we put up in this match. It is a big boost for us to have given a big fight against a Test playing nation. We have shown that Nepalese are fighters and we want to keep producing such performances in the future too.”

India hold their nerves to down Afghanistan

Stubborn knocks from openers Harnoor Singh (64) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi (35) and unbeaten knocks from Rajangad Bawa (43n.o) and Kaushal Tambe (35n.o) under tremendous pressure ensured India a hard-fought four-wicket win over Afghanistan with ten balls to spare. It was a nerve-wrecking chase for India towards the target after Afghanistan had posted a challenging 259 for 4 through Ijaz Ahmad Ahmadzai’s breezy 86 studded with seven sixers and one boundary off 68 balls. Afghanistan skipper Suliman Safi too chipped in with a knock of 73.

India, after getting off to a good start through an opening partnership of 104 between Singh and Raghuvanshi, slipped to the bowling of left-arm spinner Noor Ahmad Lakanwal (4 for 43) before Bawa and Tambe took them to target.

India had won the toss and elected to field. Afghanistan openers Suliman Arabzai and Mohammad Ishaq put on 38 runs in 10.3 overs. Arabzai, when on 18 and who was stroking well, was the first to go. He fell to Rajangad Bawa who was introduced in the ninth over. Medium pacer Bawa was carrying the confidence from his four wicket spell against Pakistan in the previous match.

Afghanistan lost their second wicket at the score on 63 when opener Ishaq fell to left arm spinner Vicky Ostwal caught by Ravi Kumar for 19. Allah Noor Naseri, who had cracked a century against UAE in the previous match, began stroking fluently along with his skipper Suliman Safi. At the half way mark, Afghanistan were 83 for 2.

Off spinner Kaushal Tambe took the prize wicket of Noor by having him caught by Shaik Rasheed for 26. Noor and Safi had added 38 runs for the third wicket. Safi then kept the runs flowing along with Ijaz Ahmad Ahmadzai and reached his half century in 68 balls.

Ahmadzai went for the big shots and hit Ravi Kumar for a six in the 43rd over. He also hit Bawa for another six in the 45th over. Rajvardhan Hangargekar ended Safi’s fine knock by having him caught by Angkrish Raghuvanshi. Safi’s knock of 73 off 86 balls had seven boundaries and a six. Ahmadzai hit Bawa for yet another six in the 47th

over to reach his half century in 56 balls. He went on to add an unbeaten 70 runs partnership in 30 balls with Khaiber Wali (20n.o). Safi returned to the pavilion applauded all the way for his unbeaten 86 off 61 balls with seven sixes and one boundary that ensured Afghanistan a total of 259 for 4 in 50 overs.

Indian openers Harnoor Singh and Angkrish Raghuvanshi provided a confident start by recording a 50 runs partnership in eight overs. In- form Singh, with knocks of 120 against UAE and 46 against Pakistan, began stroking freely. Raghuvanshi who had failed in the first two matches with single digit scores, batted confidently.

In the 14th over, Afghanistan introduced their strike bowler and 16-year-old left-arm spinner Noor Ahmad Lakanwal. The Indian openers initially tackled Lakanwal as well as leg spinner Izharulhaq Naveed carefully. Singh reached his half century in 49 balls and the pair recorded their 100 runs partnership in the 17th over. Lakanwal struck in his third over to trap Raghuvanshi leg before for 36 and end the 104 runs partnership. He also trapped Singh leg before for 64. His knock off 72 ball contained nine boundaries.

India squandered the advantage of a good start when Shaik Rasheed too fell leg before to pacer Bilal Sami for six runs. At the half way mark, India were 137 for 3. India’s skipper Yash Dhull and Nishant Sindhu then added 46 runs for fourth wicket but pacer Khalel Ahmed Khalel had Sindhu caught by Ijaz Ahmad Ahmadzai for 19.

Dhull was joined by Rajangad Bawa , and together they added another 21 runs. At the score on 185, Lakanwal provided a vital blow by having Dhull stumped by wicketkeeper Mohammad Ishaq for 26. Lakanwal then went on to trap Aaradhya Yadav leg before for 12. With 30 runs needed off the last five overs and only four wickets in hand, it was a sheer test of nerves.

Luckily for India, Lakanwal finished his quota of overs and Bawa kept going along with Tambe, refusing to crack under pressure. They put on an unbeaten 65 runs partnership in 64 balls to carry the team to the target. Bawa remained unbeaten on 43 off 55 balls with two boundaries, well backed by Tambe with an unconquered 35 off 29 balls with four boundaries.

Player of the match Kaushal Tambe said that he had played his role to perfection. “I had to hold my nerves as I knew I was the last of the recognized batsmen. I decided to stay on till the end providing good support to Rajangad Bawa. I am happy that I played the role expected off me and ensured that my team reach the semifinal.”

Indian skipper Yash Dhull said that staying positive has won this match for his team “After we had lost to Pakistan we came up with a plan to stay positive. This victory is the result of that attitude. Even though we were under pressure we told ourselves to play positively and all credit goes to full team. Everyone chipped in with useful partnerships and refused to crack under pressure. We will carry this positive attitude to the semifinal too.”

Afghanistan skipper Suliman Safi feels that if his pacers had bowled well they could have won the match. “Though our spinners bowled excellently, our pacers did not rise to the challenge. We allowed the Indian openers to have a huge partnership. We fought and got back into the game but some close calls also went against us; but we played a good game.”

Kuwait skipper Meet Bhavsar played a stupendous unbeaten knock of 175 to single-handedly carry his team on his shoulders to a thrilling one-wicket win over Nepal on the sixth day of the ACC Under-19 Asia Cup at the ICC Academy Ground 2.

Earlier in the day, the Bangladesh-Sri Lanka match at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium had to be called off following two officials being tested positive for Covid-19. Bhavsar wiped away the gloom of their previous losses through his knock that came off 149 balls studded with 24 boundaries and one six.

Kuwait vs Nepal at ICC Academy Ground 2

Bhavsar’s century lifts Kuwait to a stunning win over Nepal

Kuwait’s opener and skipper Meet Bhavsar met the challenge of chasing Nepal’s total of 239 with tremendous verve and a fine display of concentration and strength. The enormity of his knock can be gauged from the fact that except for one batsman in his team none of the others even reached double figures. With wickets falling at regular intervals, Bhavsar stood like a colossus, shielding his other batsmen from getting the strike, and ultimately won the match for his team. He scored 175 runs out of the 241 runs posted by his team.

Earlier, Kuwait won the toss and elected to field. Their right-arm medium pacer Mirza Ahmed gave a good start by picking three quick wickets. He had Santosh Kari caught behind by wicketkeeper Mohamad Thoufiq for 5 and then went on to clean bowl Nepal opener and captain Dev Khanal for 5. He also clean bowled Nepal’s wicket-keeper Arjun Saud for 10.

Bibek Kumar Ranamagar and Basir Ahamad then steadied the innings. Ahamad hit off spinner Henry Thomas for three boundaries in the 10thover to carry Nepal past the 50 run mark. Both the batsmen scored at a steady pacer being severe on any loose deliveries. In the 12th over Ahmad hit Abdul Sadiq for a six and a boundary to take 18 runs off that over. Ranamagar reached his half century in 69 balls but fell two balls later, caught by Jude Saldanha off Thomas. His knock contained six boundaries and he put on 92 runs in 115 balls for the fourth wicket. One run later, leg spinner Mohammad Bastaki had Bibek Yadav caught by Abdullah Farooq for a duck.

Nepal were thus reduced to 126 for 5 in 25 overs. Ahamad reach his half century in 59 deliveries but three balls later fell to Bastaki. He got caught by Abdul Sadiq for 56 which contained seven boundaries and six. Thomas picked his second wicket trapping Gulshan Kumar Jha for 7.

Undaunted by the situation, Mohammad Aadil Alam went for his shots and hit two sixes off Bastaki. He also hit Abdullah Zaheer for a six and a boundary in the 30th over. Sher Malla too provided good support and the pair added 59 runs in 60 balls before Abdullah Sadiq trapped Malla leg before for 21. Alam continued to score boldly and smashed Zaheer for two consecutive sixes before being caught behind off Sadiq for 49. The last pair of Dipesh Kandel and Prakash Jaisi (5n.o) added 21 runs before Sadiq took his third wicket dismissing Kandel for 15.

Chasing Nepal’s total of 239 made from 42.3 overs, the Kuwait openers provided a splendid start. Bhavsar went for his shots and with good support from his partner Jude Saldanha put on a 100 runs partnership in 15.5 overs. Bhavsar raced to his half century in just 37 balls. In the second over he hit Praksah Jaisi for three boundaries and took 15 runs off that over. In the sixth over he hit Nepal skipper Dev Khanal for two boundaries. He dominated the bowling in every over and also hit Malla for two consecutive boundaries in the 11th over.

Saldanha kept giving the strike to his aggressive skipper by taking singles. Gulshan Jha then ended the 109 runs partnership in the 18th over by having Saldanha caught by Arjun Saud for 25. He had stayed at the crease for 42 deliveries hitting three boundaries.

Abdul Sadiq who followed lasted only six balls to score two runs before Bibek Kumar Yadav had him caught by Santosh Karki. Yadav also got Mohamed Thoufiq out with the very next ball. Abdullah Zaheer prevented Yadav from taking a hat-trick and backed his skipper to add another 18 runs before getting clean bowled by Malla for 1. When Basir Ahamad quickly dismissed Muhammad Umar caught by Aadil Alam for 1, half the Kuwait side was in the pavilion for 138 runs.

When Bhavsar was on 99, Kuwait lost Mohammad Bastaki caught at short leg by Ranamagar off Basir Ahmad for 6. Bhavsar reached his century in the 36th over off 102 balls with 14 boundaries. But Kuwait still needed 84 runs to win in the next 14 overs with only four wickets in hand. Malla struck again to remove Mirza Ahmed for a duck.

Bhavsar reached his 150 in 131 balls and kept carrying his team to the target with Abdullah Farooq. Jha had Farooq caught and bowled for 7 and also clean bowled Zeeshan Azeem for a duck. Shielding last man Henry Thomas from the strike, Bhavsar then took the 13 runs needed for victory.

Bhavsar, who is born in Kuwait and has his roots from Rajasthan in India, after winning the Player of the Match award, said: “Frankly, I never imagined I would play such a knock. It was my determination when I went out to bat that made me play such a knock. I thank my parents and coaches for instilling such confidence and determination in me. I told myself that whatever may happen we have to win this match. When wickets fell at the other end, I told my batsmen to provide as much as strike to me and I will try and win the match. Though I have hit centuries at the school level, never have I played such a big knock and hit such a big score. This win will be a big boost for cricket in Kuwait.”

Nepal skipper Dev Khanal said: “It was Meet (Bhavsar) who took away the match from us. It was a great knock and we fielded poorly and paid the price for it. We tried to win the match but sometimes you need luck too to win a match and today we did not have it.”

Bangladesh post 129 for 4 before match called-off

Bangladesh posted 129 for 4 in 32.4 overs before the match was called off following two officials being tested positive for Covid-19. After Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to field, Bangladesh’s in-form batsman Prantik Nawrose went on to hit 45 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. All personnel associated with this match have been isolated until further results and information regarding the semifinal will be made available in due course.

The match began with Sri Lankan off spinner Traveen Sashenka Mathew, playing his first match of the tournament, dismissing both openers. He had Iftakher Hossain caught by Sadisha Rajapaksa for 3 and then went on to take the prize wicket of opener Mahijul Islam, who had hit a century against Kuwait , by having him caught by Shevon Daniel for 4.

Nawrose, who is in form with a century against Nepal, quickly settled down and together with Aich Mollah began to repair the damage. Picking the gaps well, Nawrose accelerated the run rate. He got good backing from Mollah who also began to score boundaries. The pair put on 55 runs in 80 balls for the third wicket when Sri Lankan skipper and left-arm spinner Dunith Nethmika Wellalage ended Nawrose’s knock. Nawrose’s 45 came off 64 balls with three boundaries and six. Two runs later, Wellalage struck again and clean bowled Mollah for 24.

At the half way mark, Bangladesh were 89 for 4 with hard-hitting Md Fahim and Ariful Islam battling hard against the tight Sri Lankan bowling. The pair put on 47 runs for the fifth wicket when the match had to be called off. Fahim remained unbeaten on 27 and Islam on 19.

Although it will be tight, I fancy SL to beat PK. I saw them play England U19 and they look at a decent team.

Pakistan's prize for beating Sri Lanka in the Semi-Final will probably be another game against India!

India vs Bangladesh at Sharjah Cricket Stadium

Dominant India stop Bangladesh

Bangladesh began strongly after winning the toss and electing to field. They picked the prize wicket of consistent Harnoor Singh in the eighth over. Medium-pacer Tanzim Hasan had Singh caught behind by wicketkeeper Md Fahim for 15 at the score of 23. Shaik Rasheed joined opener Angkrish Raghuvansh and added 26 runs for the second wicket before Fahim took his second catch to dismiss Raghuvansh for 16 off left-arm spinner Naimur Rohman Noyon.

Nishant Sindhu and Rasheed took the score to 62 when off-spinner Meherob Hasan had Sindhu caught by Mahfijul Islam for 5. Indian skipper Yash Dhull and Rashid, keeping their heads down, and finding the gaps, steered India past the 100 run mark in the 29th over. They put on 41 runs in 45 balls for the fourth wicket before Dhull got out to off-spinner Ariful Islam, caught by Aich Mollah, for 26.

Rajangad Bawa, who has scored consistently in this tournament, joined Rasheed. Together they swelled the total, and Rasheed reached his half-century in 76 balls. At the score of 149, Bangladesh skipper and left-arm spinner Rakibul Hasan had Bawa caught by Fahim for 23. It was Fahim’s third catch and the pair had put on 46 runs for the fifth wicket.

Fahim then went on to stump Kaushal Tambe off Hasan for 3 and then ran out Indian wicketkeeper Aaradhya Yadav for 8. Rajvardhan Hangargekar and Rashid added 17 runs before Hasan picked his third wicket clean bowling Hangargekar for 16. Vicky Ostwal gave excellent support to Rashid, and India went past the 200-run mark in the 46th over. Rashid remained unconquered on 90 by hitting Ashiqur Zaman’s fifth ball of the last over for a six and helped India post 243 for 8 in 50 overs. Ostwal remained unbeaten with a quick 28 off 18 balls with three boundaries.

Bangladesh openers put on 31 runs in 5.1 overs before left-arm medium-pacer Ravi Kumar trapped Tahibul Islam leg before for 3. In walked the consistent Prantik Nawrose Nabil with scores of 127 against Nepal and 45 against Sri Lanka. Opener Mahiful Islam and Nawrose could add only nine more runs when medium pacer Rajangad Bawa had Islam caught by Angkrish Raghuvanshi for 26. Ravi Kumar took the valuable wicket of Nawrose by trapping him leg before for 12.

Bawa struck again in the 11th over to take the wicket of Aich Mollah by having him caught by Harnoor Singh for a duck. In the 12th over Hangargekar removed hard-hitting Md Fahim, caught by Raghuvanshi for 5. India began to take a firm grip with Bangladesh struggling at 59 for 5 in 11.5 overs. Nine runs later, Hangargekar had Meherob Hasan too caught by Singh for 7.

Ariful Islam and Ashiqur Zaman pushed the score to 87 before left-arm spinner Vicky Ostwal had Zaman caught behind by wicketkeeper Aaradhya Yadav for 15. Ostwal went on to also dismiss Naimur Rohman for 6 by having him caught by Shaik Rasheed. Off-spinner Kaushal Tambe did not let the Bangladesh skipper stay on for long by having him stumped by wicketkeeper Aaradhya Yadav for 16. Ariful Islam, who put on a strong challenge to score 42 off 77 balls, also got stumped by wicketkeeper Aaradhya Yadav off left-arm spinner Nishant Sindhu to book India’s place in the final.

Shaik Rashid, who was adjudged Player of the Match for his stubborn unbeaten knock of 90, said: “I am thrilled at having played such a knock in a crucial match. I am not disappointed at not getting my century. For me, it was important to give my team a good total and I achieved it.”

Indian skipper Yash Dhull stressed that his team's positive approach was behind this win too. “We have been telling each other to play positive cricket and that is showing in every performance. Everyone is contributing to the victory and that is what has seen us reach the final. We want to not only win the Asia Cup but go on to win the World Cup too.”

Bangladesh skipper Rakibul Hasan said his team could have batted better to win the match. “It was a good contest but we faltered in certain stages of the game. We will learn from the mistakes of this contest and go stronger into the World Cup and defend our title there.”

This is a first time in my 20 years of watching cricket..about Rain in Dubai delaying a match.
Has it ever happened before ?

Yes I remember some years ago there was a rain delay in one of Pakistan’s test matches as well. Very strange indeed, hehe.

This is the only time in the year that rains effect the Middle East!

Congrats to Ind U19. Harnoor and Ankrit are good batters.
Really liked the way Shaik Rasheed handled pressure in Semi Final and Final, He looks a very compact batter with good technique. Hopefully these guys develop.

Congrats to SRL U19 as well they played some good cricket. There batting looks a bit iffy but some great promise in bowling.
