Our test team is shambles, needs a complete revamp. At least 4 or 5 players need to be thrown out for good.

MIssing Kohli and his test leadership days, bowling was super penetrating and sharp.

There is no shame in losing against Muthuswamy. Especially if it leads to the removal of Gambhir, he is doing a service to Indian cricket.

Having said that, India will win this test match.

Good batting by Proteas. Could be wicket is easier to bat on today, will know that if/when India bat today.

These kind of innings can break an opposition mentally. When you have a team 6 or 7 down for not much and then someone down the order comes in and scores a century. Let's see how India respond. South African lower order has put up an incredible fight.

Great commentary.

India were looking for wickets, and at a time when India needed wickets Harmer is bowled by one of the best that ever existed.

Bumrah really stepped up today after the tail made a 150 run partnership.
:kp
One of the best that ever existed lmao

Jansen took my advice and gave Bumrah some tap instead of bhai for once.

Request for Maharaj, just get out to Siraj please.

Looks like India forgot to play Test matches at present.

And sadly it should be the end of GAMBHIR as a Test coach.

Fool was trying to replicate his limited over tactics towards tests and rightly punished...

:kp

India has so many talented batsmen and bowlers, both young and experienced, who can be called on for test cricket and yet they again decide to pack the side with non-specialists. Gambhir is either too dumb or too arrogant (I think both). But credit is also due to SA who have now proved that that test championship was no fluke.

not sure what SA goal is here
surely its time to declare
this 100 is getting a bit selfish now
The goal is to score as many runs as possible so it India come out and score 600 or 650 they can still draw the match and win the series. It's not rocket science

Seems Indian dominance at home is over.

Batsmen can't score 100 on a turner.
Bowlers can't bowl on good batting pitch.

Ohhhh right and reduce the win rate percentage for the WTC

Please never be a coach :)

Series win in India is worth sacrificing a few points. It will be a historical achievement.
Ya will be the first series win after 15 or so years.

Nz and now SA are going to win test series. Nz series brought curtains tp few careers, i hope this too brings an end to few in another 2 days

India need a complete overhaul in tests

Remove stat padders first. Siraj obviously is more of a sena bowler. Can’t bowl in home wickets.

Should have picked in form players from A team like gurnoor Prasidh etc

And then spinner. Manas suthar thanush kotian would have been ideal.

Batting need to draft in tilak verma and badoni. Remove ***** like rahul(timid twit) and Nitish doesn’t need to play here. Appalling selections.

Anyway looks like SA will win this.

Gambir needs to be executed. Bauna thevidiya.

South Africa seize control on second day in Guwahati

South Africa stamped their authority on Day 2 of the second Test, piling up 489 runs in their first innings to leave India trailing by 480. India-origin all-rounder Senuran Muthusamy lit up the day with his maiden Test century, while Marco Jansen produced fireworks at No. 9 with a blistering 93 off 91 balls.

Kuldeep Yadav was the pick of India’s bowlers with four wickets, but the hosts endured a tough start under captain Rishabh Pant, going wicketless in the first session. By stumps, India were 9/0 with Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul steady at the crease.

Tbh Rahul is probably the best batsman in the side based on current form and experience

Yeah because losing a test match is better than drawing. Thanks for the clarification Einstein
Some people are like SL T20 team - hit 6 on every ball.

Every team wants to win a test, but nit at the cost of series; this has been going on forever. Now since the WC final qualifying points are at stake, it has become even more important to avoid glory at the cost of qualification.

This is the best result SA could ever imagine prior to the beginning of the past 2 series - heck, they were at the verge of losing to Pakistan 0-2 until Rebada rescued them to a winning position.

I can bet my bottom dollar that prior to the last 2 series, SA was just HOPING that they would survive the 2 series drawing them. Now there is a strong likelihood that they would leave South Asia with 3-1 Record, while the worst case and least likely being 2-2 - Now that is called meeting or exceeding the objective. Even AU, the top team on the table, would dream about such a result.

OP is acting like the WTC final is next week and South Africa have to win this match at all costs. Not like they have numerous home series in this cycle where they can make up for those points by winning matches. 2-0 would be a best case scenario but even 1-0 would be an incredible result and their first series win in India in 20+ years. Scoring 500 or above increases the probability of that and batting the opposition out of the test match.

You're right. These two series have gone very well for South Africa because these were two tours where they would have expected to drop points. Now they just have one away series in this cycle left against Sri Lanka. And based on their performances in India and Pakistan, they would very much back themselves to win that series.

I don't care about WTC, just win this series. Series win in India will be fantastic.

Exactly - now since they have met or exceeded their own expectations, they would go to SL being more confident and NOT thinking about losing points at least. It is just as Pak going to SA AND AU and HOPE to draw the series - that would be enormously positive results for test team Pak. Imagine if Pak wins, they would talk about it for decades :D

Keep dreaming..:sarf2

I have accepted that I will probably not see Pakistan win in Australia in my lifetime :kp

India up against it. The only way they can win now is if they score 650 plus (which might be beyond the current batting line-up) and then hope that South Africa collapse in the second innings (‘4th innings blues’)

In the history of test cricket, there are very few examples of teams scoring this kind of a first innings total and losing the match. It will take something incredible for India to win from here
