5.25pm THE RAIN HAS STOPPED in Manchester. But there are massive puddles of water on the field. Nagraj says that the umpires are out for the first round of inspection.

Btw whose bright idea was it to have the semi on a tuesday? Imagine this could have been the biggest India vs Pak game in decades and most of us would have been stuck at work following along on a cricketing website

If play stop here, will NZ begin from 211/5 tomorrow or it will be a fresh game?

well when it start raining NZ started to find their rhythm, it was a bit easier to score.

They only scored of chahal,if you means finding rhythm meant losing wicket to strike bowler like buvi and scoring at runner ball vs bumrah means it was easy then i dont know if easy was really the word

Kinda poetic justice if NZ does not go to the finals due to the rains, ain’t it?
It would have been justice if NZ had scored 300 by now and we're in a winning position.
As of now, nobody is giving them a chance.
So, no justice done yet if game is washed out.

We have one hour before play can resume with a 20 over chase. Hopefully rain stays away

Not yet knocked out. Tomorrow we have a reserve day.

Hence the "if it indeed happens"

For them, yes. But probably they deserve it because they wouldn’t have qualified if not for the rain point they got against India.

All the ifs and the buts and the should'ves or would'ves aside they did make it to the semis and it must be quite a heartbreak for them to have to go without a complete chance. If this happened with Pakistan i would be devastated.

It's actually kind of a stupid rule that a team will advance based on how they did in group stages. I know if Pak was in this place where they will be eliminated without even given a chance I will be devastated.

In fact what's the purpose of semis and finals then, just give trophy to team at top of the table?

NZ not even had 148 on the board in 35 overs when they were batting. And now we have to chase 148 in 20 overs? :inti

They have to start within 54 minutes. If they take too much time to inspect and rain comes again game will be called off for today.

But then how do you propose to select who goes through to the finals if it rains both the days? There has to be a viable alternative right?

What would you propose instead? :dar

Get some somosas in, this will be nervy if we have a 20 over chase.

Have a feeling India will demand a dry outfield which is fine and umpires wont risk it.

Luckily we won’t be bowling anymore on this outfield.

Bowling captain should be seriously worried by hose damp patches. There’s some really scary puddles of water on the field.

This worldcup is turning out to be such a farce tournament. Luck>>Skills.

England should never get to host worldcup. Worst place to hold an event. I would rather like it to take place in UAE than England.

I'm sure they can have cumulative playing time of 3 hours across 2 days to play a 20 over a side match.

India should demand the match be pushed to the reserve day so we can get full 50 overs of cricket.

A quick call by the BCCI to the match umpire could fix that. :D

Batting wont be easy either and bowling with wet ball will also be difficult. Why can’t they continue the game tomorrow? Why risk injury on unsafe outfiled?

Heard the word today 1st time Sticky pitch

Green top flat deck powdery wicket slow wicket rank turner and now

Wait, how did rain reach the semis despite having only 8 points in the league stages? #CWC19

Cricket is such an ancient sports rain stopped play for 3hrs football tennis hockey squash all game would be over in this time :16:

That is the present scenario, they will try to get India to play atleast 20 overs tomorrow & only if they can’t will India qualify.

Having bowled 46 overs, a shorter match now only goes in India’s favour.

If you are 12/3 after an early Bohot blitz, what would you rather have, chasing 250 in a full game or chasing 150 in 20 overs?

The answer is pretty obvious

If anything I feel NZ would be hard done by with this reduced match.

You want to make the chasing team chase long and not quick in a short match.

That's the reason why cricket will never advance beyond 10-12 countries.

Yup, Boult & Ferguson can only each bowl 4 hours now.

With 6:36 being the cut off time what is the point of inspection at 6:10. Just push it to next day. Just for saving their face they are risking players.

In a shorter format the differences between stronger and weaker sides are always reduced. If it was full 50 over a side match India would win most times, but in 20 over match NZ have slight chance.

How lol Bowlers bowling at full steam with completely new ball for 4 overs vs Bowlers bowling with older balls after 40 overs. How did you conclude it is hard for New zealand? They just have to give their very best for 4 overs they are in the final.

Yup Kane should have a word with umpire. There’s a lot to risk fielding on this ground tonight.

By no means is chasing 250 a walk in the park. Get back tomorrow and bowl full overs. NZ stands a decent chance to defend this. This is a semi final there will be pressure.

The problem is India isn't going to be bowling.

I agree it should be upto the Kiwis, there is no danger to the batsmen but only to the fielders(if any wet parts of the outfied). But India would rather come back tommorow over chasing 148 in these conditions.

Besides rules for 50 over apply so it'll be 2 new balls from each end and not like T20 where one ball is used.... so at max each bowl will get 10 overs old. Oooops :broad

At 12/3 Dhoni will play 2 overs and the rrr will be at 12's :inti

Ask yourself this. How hard is it to chase 175 in a T20 vs 300 in a ODI. You don't need to build an innings, go through several phases. Need one player to stand and make a 50 and the rest to score short cameos to chase 150 in 20 overs.

I have to say Pakistanis like you think that the world owes them everything.

If you think we think "the world owes us everything" then why are you on a Pakistani cricket forum in the first place? go back to the toxic Indian cricket forum.

That's better is the ball gets wet. An old wet ball is difficult to score off

New Zealand would be favorites in a 148 off 20 scenario in these conditions. Especially with their seam friendly bowling attack. NZ would want play to resume today but India would definitely rather keep things for tomorrow.

20 overs cricket are a matter of one partnership.

India has quality and depth to overcome an early set back.

Chasing 250 in a semi isn’t easy. You need a few batsmen to have a good day.

1 batsman alone can get you past a 140sh total

I also think its best to continue the game tomorrow from where they left and try to finish 50 overs. As of now India stands at disadvantage position due to stupid calculation. I wonder if DLS consider pitch condition while calculating par score?

At 12/3 there will be Pant, DK, Dhoni, Pandya, Jadeja, Bhuvi still to come.

Only 1 of them would have to have a good night the rest can chip in with 15-20 runs

India's ODI approach is seeing off the new ball threat and scoring runs in the middle overs. There are no middle overs here. You can't suddenly go from that to teeing off against Boult and Henry or Ferguson.

lol says the Indian, hypocrisy at its best.

What hypocrisy? Indians have not been complaining about how Pakistan played.

Pakistanis like you on the other hand seem to believe that Indian players were obliged to win their game against England for the sake of Pakistan.

Approach will be different. They can see off Boult and probably can even score off him as he will be attacking. The rest are mediocre bowlers. These are professional cricketers who play more T20s than anybody in the world.

It's drizzling again ... This could be curtains ... I daresay we'll hear something definitive at 6.10pm... it'll take until beyond 6.35pm to make the ground playable.

Excellent news.
