It's drizzling again ... This could be curtains ... I daresay we'll hear something definitive at 6.10pm... it'll take until beyond 6.35pm to make the ground playable.

Excellent news.

That is indeed some good news. Last thing we wanted was chasing 7.5 an over for 20 overs on a damp pitch against NZ. Whats the weather like tomorrow? Im planning to take a day off

Full game tomorrow and its India game to lose.

Yes. That is the fairest way to decide the outcome. I don't want any reduction of overs. First thing first. India must complete 50 over asap. At 46 overs India required 237 runs. I doubt if they will get that in 50 overs with 3.5 overs to go 2 overs by Bumrah.

New Zealand avoiding defeat today in itself is a minor Victory for them.

World Cup Semi Finals are recorded in History books as fairy tales.
People still talk about Gary Gilmour's 14/6 spell at Headingley Semi Final 1975, or Tied Semi Final of Edgbaston, or Two mighty tight semi finals of Mohali 1996/2011, or Sydney 92 fiasco.

New Zealand was almost eliminated by 90% of former cricketers turned TV Pundits. They predicted by tonight India will be in World cup final.

Reality is Kane Williamson lives to fight another day. Who knows what will happen tomorrow. Every day is not same for every team. Secondly tomorrow is going to be an overly cloudy day, plus with full 50 overs, a target of 240+ will not be walk in a park for Indian Batting line up.

In these conditions Grandhomee and Boult thrive. However Kane Willialmson avoiding defeat tonight in itself is a minor strategic victory for him, they are digging in, they have not surrendered at all.

Tomorrow ground will not be wet. So swinging conditions with non-wet ground will make it a 50/50 contest.

The theme of Pak fans here can be summarised like

"We are the cornered tigers who can destroy anybody but could any of you guys help us? "

It's actually kind of a stupid rule that a team will advance based on how they did in group stages. I know if Pak was in this place where they will be eliminated without even given a chance I will be devastated.

In fact what's the purpose of semis and finals then, just give trophy to team at top of the table?

Nz had the best chance to top the table, and why bring in pakistan? They didnt even make it to semis.

What do you mean by will be eliminated without being given the chance?

Was this rule made just now for top team? It was already there.all teams had same chance to reach there.and grounds man are working thier arseoff to get a game going, talk about not giving a chance.

Purpose of semi and finals is to find out the ultimate winner.and thats what they are trying to do,unless you want to give alternative approach on how to control the rain gods that even washout reserve day

Problem with a full game tomorrow is that the Indian pacers would have to bowl their 10 overs again tomorrow. That would be quite bad for India. Pandya is already carrying an injury.

Thats all folks.

Positive for Kiwis they will bowl in the morning.. Bumrah and Bhuvi didn't use the swinging conditions as they should have. Boult will be a leathal.

What about Reserve Day?
The ICC has set aside July 10 as the reserve day, if the play is not completed on 9 July because of rain or the inability to complete the number of overs. In that case, the game will resume from where it was left off on the previous day, allowing the teams to have a fair contest. However, the game will go into the reserve day only if it is unable to be finished today.

Full game means Match will continue from 46.1 overs, NOT repeat of the game.

What 10 overs? They just have 2 overs each

It will be continued from where they left off, not a re match.

you are mistaken. No full game. It will start from 46.1 overs.

Not really, only bumrah and bhuvi will bowl, pandya is done for next 5 days.

Bhuvi only gave 5 runs +1 wicket in last over and bumrah even with 2 misfieldruns gave only 7,

I have trust in this guys we will get couple of wickets in 1-2 over or may be allout for 225 or 227/7 and why would we give them supposed 240 DLS score when our best bowler of this match and whole tournament has remaining overs.

If anything going tommorrow even with washout or not is only good for india

Which will be unfair to NZ

How so? lol That is what the reserve day is for. If there were no reserve day India would have already been through to the final. You cannot force a team to bowl their full quota of overs two days on the trot.

This is why cricket is not so popular around the world. Just get this match over with....

Thanks for the info. Boult will get to bowl in the morning, which makes it a bit harder for us, we have a fight in our hands. Good that Jadeja is in the team, he got a 50 against NZ in the warmup match.

India has won game from 22/4 with Boult firing and Kohli not playing. So if it is a full 50 over game i think we can scrap around and win somehow.

PLAY IS SUSPENDED! There we go, it's all over for tonight, but very much not all over for this crucial semi-final. New Zealand will resume where this innings left off, on 211 for 5 with 23 balls of their innings still to come.

Wish Srilanka had qualified for the semi final and faced England, and England match got washed out both days lol

India deserve to lose for the sin they committed in the game against England. They don't deserve to be in KO.

"New Zealand will resume [tomorrow] where this innings left off, on 211 for 5 with 23 balls of their innings still to come.] The market moved slightly against NZ following this, reducing their chances of victory from about 23% to 20%.

So if we will witness no play till the final because of rain then final will be of Aus vs Ind.

9th July 2019
India v New Zealand, Old Trafford
Rain stopped play
New Zealand 211-5 (46.1)
The Match:

Due to adverse weather conditions, Match Officials have declared that no further play will take place today.

Weather permitting, play will recommence tomorrow (10th July) at 10.30am from the point at which it was halted. New Zealand will be required to complete their 50-over innings, with India still to bat (50-overs).

Should adverse weather continue throughout the Reserve Day the match may be shortened. India will be required to bat for at least 20 overs to complete the match.

its gonna be cloudy and a bit wet tommorow so India will have trouble chasing tommorow.

Remember if it also rains tomorrow and the game is called off [more rain expected tomorrow] then India go through.

I put it this way. If NZ were told , you will win the toss, bat first & be 211 for 5 after 46.1 overs , now knowing it is a dry pitch, NZ would have taken it.

There are worse scenarios.

i am wondering about people who went to see the match . do they have to purchase ticket again for tomorrow ? or

According to the ICC rules, a super over face off takes precedence to India proceeding.

So order for the Semi is:

Reserve day
Super Over face off
India proceed based on Group Standings

Even Afghanistan would NOT have taken it!

If anything wet ball is difficult to grip, but not difficult to score runs.

Softer balls are tough to score. Anyway T20 is out. I preferred to get the game over with today but rain won the day 1. Indians should see off Boult and chase that 230 in the morning. Game is India's to lose

India deserve to lose for the sin they committed in the game against England. They don't deserve to be in KO.

The sin of not doing a team (arch rival) a favor because the arch rival was incapable of making it on its own.

super over is for a tied match not inconclusive match.

Chasing 140 odd runs in 20 overs is pretty challenging considering occasion and pitch conditions. If that is the case then Rahul and Rohit need to bat well for first 10 overs and provide the platform to launch.

In all honesty advantage NZ. Seriously, NZ is one lucky team, played poorly and now have a chance to make it to finals.

I'd say India has the advantage now, we'll come batting knowing what the target is and on a different pitch.

Advantage India. 237 in 46 overs, NZ would've grabbed that with both hands. Now it will be difficult to even reach 237 with two overs of Bumrah and India will get full 50 overs.

240 is a par score on this pitch

Nope, that's for a tied game. Group stage position take precedence if rain intervenes again.

Hopefully full game happens tommorow.
A T20 type of game and Rohit Sharma would have not had opportunity to score 6th 100 in World cup in a chase that leads to Indian win.
Hopefully he gets 100 and India get full 50 over to bat to chase down NZ score ( 211 + whatever they get in 17 balls):snack:

Which team will be happier today?

So the match was suspended as everyone knows, but which team will be happier with the match being suspended for today? New Zealand or India?
