If I have to chose one team it has to be South Africa rather than Australia. Australia is different beast in ICC tournament finals .
What is your choice?

Revenge for 2003 and to get rid of aussie supremacy in worldcup

SA. Not that India will beat them, but Aussies are like those bubblegum sticking onto your footwear, just does not go away.

Indian fans are nervous facing Australia (or may be South Africa). I am sure whichever team reaches the final will be just as nervous at the prospect of facing India. I think that New Zealand were the toughest opponent that India faced. The finalist may not be as tough a nut to crack as New Zealand.

Warner and Maxwell are very dangerous who.can completely demoralise the opposition in couple of overs but the former sometimes gets stuck against spin.

On the other hand SA mental game melts like ice in heat, however they do have such batsmen who can completely turn the game upside down

As we have crossed the biggest obstacle the NZ team, now any team is ok whether aus or sa, that match also will be tough I think, but expecting us to cross the line like this match

Aus - if top order doesn't fire it's hard for them to do well. And Indian bowlers have a good chance of picking up opening wickets. And Aus bowlers have had a pretty bad tournament, aside from Zampa(who can also go for runs, even though he picks up wickets) - specifically Cummins and Starc

Australia. Because if South Africa reach the final and lose then people will say Australia should've reached the final instead because they would've given India a better fight.

Australia reaches the final, India beats them again. No one will be left with any doubt about this Indian team.

South Africa has a surprise element about them but Australia has a bunch of players that have won multiple World Cups and who have experience of holding their nerves in such situations.

Their mental toughness and resilience get overrated because of their golden generation, but between them and South Africa, they have more in their locker to defeat India.

Australia batting first in the final and posting 300+ would prove to be Indian’s toughest Test in this World Cup by far.

Even if SA were to bat first and post a mammoth score, I'd be more comfortable as an Indian player chasing, knowing their bowlers will crack.

Australia are beasts that can be tamed. But beasts, nevertheless.

I prefer SA.

This is bcoz if India wins...I will be happy obviously.

But if SA wins...I won't be all that gutted as they deserve a trophy.

Will surely prefer SA but I know that this will not happen. Australia always have an upper hand against SA in KOs.

But the way that we are currently playing, I don't mind whoever comes. IND vs Aus would be a cracker.

SA, it will be easier for India.

Further, if India doesn’t win, atleast we will get a new first time champion team and it would do a world of good for cricket in nearby countries.

Australia hopefully

South Africa can lose the match on the toss if India bats first

Australia is a familiar opponent. There is a sense of unfamiliarity with SA still. As a cricket fan, I look forward to Ind vs Aus. Both will start on even keel and they both know how to.beat each other. Also, both teams tend to bring their best against each other. This world cup deserves Ind vs Aus final as they don't fold and will fight to the end.

South Africa.

The only way India lose is if someone bowls a freak opening spell and the only player capable of that IMO is Josh Hazelwood. I don't fear the South African new ball bowlers.

It would be icing on the cake to beat Aussies in the final. But the world cricket needs a new finalist, hence SA.

We should play according to our own strengths, rather than hoping to face a weaker oposition. 💪

Australia . If we beat them, we have beaten a team with Warner, Maxwell, Smith, Cummins, Starc , Hazlewood , Zampa .

These are all greats of the game in one format or the other .

Also, they are the one team who have any right to beat us in this Cup.

But honestly , India should feel confident of beating anyone.

We just managed to beat NZ - a team that is simply designed to beat us with extremely favourable match ups.

This. There's a familiarity with playing OZ that I simply don't get when we play NZ or PAK - which makes those teams more dangerous.

Surely you guys prefer SA in a final?

Aussies are in red hot form after two losses at the start whereas SA have looked shaky if they don't bat first.

Australia have won this tournament a record 5 times, winning all 4 of their last 4 finals. SA however have never won a WC and have a tendency to choke.

Australia is the one team i am not nervous about. They are not a strategy team as much as NZ team. They are "in your face" team. India is also like that. This is why it suits us better. Sure they can beat us. But i feel less nervous when we play Aussies.

nothing to be scared off from australia. There bowling is looking very weak all 3 of cummins hazelwood and starc are going for runs and havnt taken many wickets. Cummins always struggle in india and his captaincy is awful

If we somehow lost the final then South Africa winning the world cup is good for world cricket .

South Africa would probably be an easier opponent and even if India were to lose, I'd much rather have South Africa win than Australia getting their sixth.

Can be a one sided game against South Africa as they're poor chasers atm. Australia is competitive on all fronts

Why would you not want to face Australia?

Don’t you want to avenge the finals loss in 2003?

You have an improved Sehwag, SRT, Ashish Nehra etc in the lineup now.

Man up and hope to face Australia aka the greatest knock out artists in WC!

There seems to be an unreasonable fear of Australia. This is not the prime Australia of 2003 or 2007.

Also unlike against New Zealand - India actually beat Australia in quite a few ICC knock out games:

1) ICC Knockout Cup in Nairobi - this was Yuvraj Singh's debut match

2) The famous quarter final win against the Aussies in 2011 World Cup.

3) Beat the Aussies in the T20 World Cup semi final in 2007 T20 World Cup.

And I may be forgetting some more....bottom-line while the Indian fans maybe scared of Australia - I can guarantee that this current Indian team itself would be least bothered as to who they meet in the final.

Whatever is going to be the result in the final - India will put its best foot forward and it will take a gigantic effort from the opposition to beat India.

India defeated New Zealand, that were the toughest opponents for them. Australia and South Africa somehow appear easier opponents to me. I will not lose sleep over them unlike the case when I figuratively lost sleep thinking about the semi final against New Zealand.

In finals if India loses toss then Australians can beat us easily.

Saffers will play the final for the first time and can lose even if they bat first. So, I think Saffers is the choice for most.

India had defeated Australia in the quarterfinals of 2011 world cup itself. Remember, Australia at that time were defending champions who had won the previous three world cup titles. So they were on a title winning streak for more than a decade. That streak is long broken.

I think India can easily take care of South Africa in a pressure game.

The Aussies are a different breed. Their game gets elevated in these knockout matches and they don't easily get bogged down by situational pressure.

India should be able to beat both teams but I would back the Aussies to give them a proper scare if they make the finals.

Nah that was a weak over the hill team, that’s nothing to brag about really.

Just like I don’t put too much stock in beating India in aane do series, just a bunch of passengers needing to be put out of their misery career wise.

Either aus or sa the way india performed no team stand a chance specially at home conditions india team are masters

Some bowling figures in Ahmedabad so far:

Spinners -

Santner 2-37
Kuldeep 2-35
Jadeja 2-38
Rashid 2-38
Zampa 3-21
Maharaj 2-25
Rashid 2-37
Nabi 2-31

Pacers -
Henry 3-48
Bumrah 2-19
Coetzee 4-44

Spinners have done better, but pacers haven't done badly either. Both batting line ups will struggle, but SA's middle order seems to be in better form(top order will not do much). The greater threat is Maharaj and Rabada wreaking havoc, and also the chance of a QDK special. Whereas Cummins, Starc are having bad tournaments and Zampa is wayward(he has had a successful tournament but literally got smashed against India). Hazlewood has done okay though

On paper Australia is slightly better but on form and pitch conditions I would fear SA more. Regardless you would expect India's spinners to shine and Bumrah and Shami to have a good game, so India are firm favorites.

It's cause no one cares about cricket in aus. It's. Their 3rd fav sport after rugby afl and then it's either league or cricket.

No pressure. They play and perform with ease. Much tougher if you have pakistan level support or indian population behind you

Aus absolutely. They are a beast in ko tournaments. To be the best - you have to beat the best.. SA have nowhere close to the aura that Aus have.

Now that the moment has arrived, I find myself wanting Australia to win vs SA. It will likely be the harder final for India and the better game.

In 2011, I hadn't seen a WC win and so wanted India to just win. Somehow.

Now I want to feel like they are truly world champions and that feeling will come fully, only if we play Aus in the final.

To be the man you have to beat the man....

Like it or not even after 28 years since their original domination began (& ended in 2011) Aussies are still "The Man" of world cricket. Just so we understand the ramification & significance of beating them in a tournament final, since that fateful night in Lahore 96' they have not lost a single icc odi final. They lost one in t20's to their arch rivals sure, but when it comes to 50 overs these guys simply don't lose. The streak is 6-0 since then! All of them were 100% ass whooping of genuine good sides.

This is not the golden generation of Waugh/Ponting, neither this team has the aura of grumpy old school bullies of Chappel /Border but these guys have still managed to win three world titles in last eight years, more than anybody else. The core of Smith, Starc, Maxwell, Warner, Cummins & Hazelwood know how to win tournaments, by hook or by crook. If India beats them in the final then the legacy of Rahul & his boys will automatically enhance ten times more. The thing is are you confident enough on your boys that they will get the job done against the ultimate knock out masters? If I was an Indian fan I would rather hope we meet the Saffers. Because more than bragging rights ensuring the title should be the ultimate goal.

Same here.. actually would like to see Bavuma lifting trophy lol..
it would make for a great visual to see Bavuma raising the trophy to pass to Jansen. Photographers from around the world can get technical finally to get this in one frame lol
