Indian Premier League | Day 1 | Mumbai | Apr 9, 2016 | Match thread

Rahane couldn't buy a boundary on a much flatter pitch against West Indies last week

It's his first game for India in a while. It was his home ground and his role was to play sheet anchor and release pressure off Kohli. I don't think Rahane can match Dhawan in boundary hitting so that was the only logical explanation.

The question is if it was a good strategy on a belter vs WI. Rahane didn't fail the Indian team. It's the team management that failed by picking him over Dhawan.

As far as his mental strength goes, he's got time in tests and is a very good bat. In LOI's however, I always thought he panicks easy because his SR is not that good.

Mumbai pitch always has good bounce. So if it seams/turns, it will be a tough challenge for batsmen..

The grass left wasn't great indication surely the pitch could had held itself,Ishant-Marsh even Bhatia were handful on this pitch, don't remember Mumbai one like this in IPL.

Pune bowling is wokay wokay only.

RP Singh - Meh
Mitch Marshall - Flukey bowler who keeps it tight
Ashwin - wokay only
Murugan Ashwin - Leggie unknown
Bhatia - Pure class (legend in IPL)

No genuine pacer really.

How is it that no matter which team Dhoni captains, they end up with trundlers?

No matter which team he captains, he gets people to say "oh look poor guy...he has no bowlers".

Its a magical ability I must say.

You forgot Ishant bro.

FAF's dismissal reminded me of Dilshan's dismissal in 2011 WC final.. what a sight that was

Pune looks stronger than Chennai ever did. What a solid team! If Pune can achieve the work ethic of Chennai, I can't see many teams challenging them..

Lol@Hayden taking a dig at Sharma that he had no hesitation to bat here after winning the toss :))

Rohit,Dhawan,Pandya,Raina they are so out of form its shocking hopefully they change their work ethic if not they are out for sure.

Raina and Dhawan yes. Rohit and Pandya are not there yet because there are no replacements for them.

Sadly, that's why this IPL should be interesting to see the likes of Shreyas Iyer and Sarfaraz whether they capable to replace. Also Pandya? He just came into the team bro will not be a part of 50 overs with that garbage bowling.

What about Chennai? We're talking about Ishwar Pandey and Mohit Sharma here.. :))

Chennai had Bravo who won us countless games with his slow balls when others flopped.

The IPLs which Chennai won were because of a strong good pacer.

The first 2 seasons we couldn't go all the way.

IPL 3 which we won, Bollinger played a huge role along with a well rounded spin attack (Ashwin, Murali, Jakati and Raina). Then you had a few trundlers. IPL 4 which we won, Bollinger was there too.

Once he faded and wasn't replaced, we started losing more and more.

Someone like Raina adds a lot of balance to the bowling on spin tracks or flatties that spin a bit.

Pune has no one like him. If Murugan Ashwin flops (he is a wild card - no one knows how he will turn out) then Pune is left with 1 spinner. Can get carted on flatties and turners if that happens.

Kits change, teams change, Dhoni doesn't. In favorable conditions, nobody capitalizes better than him.

Pune looks overpowered.

Mumbai looks pathetic. Panda at 3? LOL :)))

My boys got off to a good start :msd :msd. One thing though is that faf and rahanne worries me as an opening partnership sometimes they both do not accelerant quickly enough so in a big run chase it could be a worry. Would like too see KP open with rahanne. The bowling looked ishant bowling well surprised me though but he a good bowler who can be inconsistent at times. Onwards and upwards though :kakmal

They wanted to be futuristic.

Idiots. :)))

WE get used to it 5 mins later, but when in the start i saw the 1 looked like 7 absolute crap. But its ok the eyes now.

Also the score in the middle is kinda annoying.

Looks like some graphics you'd see in Endhiran 2. Too many confusing jerseys. This IPL might flop so bad that they might bring back Chennai and Kochi next year. Pune is still Chennai to me.

The best thing about yesterday's match was seeing a new Anant Ambani.

I didnt think he would be a role model some day.

Its a great achievement for anyone to lose 108 kgs, he used to be a object of fun and eyesore in MI matches

Don't think no it's easy for common people...they had special wait loss trainings in US which many cannot afford.

But any way hats off for him to transform completely. (I used to make fun of him)

I dont think he went through training in US.

We went on no suger diet, 21 km walk everyday and yoga and stuff.

Regardless of the resources its not easy to lose weight.
