Indian Premier League 2021 Auction Thread

14.5 crore for Maxwell and 16.2 crore for Morris for just playing 1.5 months of T20 cricket.

With monies thrown like this and then one wonders why international cricket is taking a back seat.

Kyle Jamieson now has the IPL salary equal of MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma's salary.
 
Some awful players are going for silly money. NCN is a average bowler, and Morris is way past his best. Some teams are like illiterate House wives, they will spend irrespective of whether it's needed or not

Signing Maxwell just sums RCB up. He has been poor in the IPL, they would have been better off signing someone else. Maxwell doesn’t perform in the IPL. I thought they would target an opener, surprised they didn’t go for Jason Roy.
 
But Jamieson is a good pick.

Interested to see how Steve Smith fits in at DC, RR have a much stronger bowling attack with the addition of Chris Morris.
 
Crazy money and I guess it will become even crazier next year what with booming growth in sports and media.
Last Aus series and this Eng series have spiked interest in the school kids. Many of these young fans of ManU or Chelsea now aspire to be cricketers and even if not, cricket is more popular including Tests, IPL and fantasy leagues. All good for the game.

I think in IPL 2020 they fell short of middle order, top order is packed so maybe Maxwell got lucky again. Money worth two rolls royce :58:

I think they could have gotten another player for less who may have had better output. Glen Phillips who did well in T20s internationals recently or Ben Cutting who just went unsold would have been good additions. They cost less as well.

But I guess signing Maxwell does help RCB brand and attract more attention to them as he will be batting with AB and Kohli.

They have Kohli and Paddikal at top. What they need is a lot of explosiveness and they can't rely on AB to do it everytime. MI has Pollard and Pandya. So, RCB picked Maxwell alongside AB.

The new overpaid joke of 2021. There are thousands of better batters than iftikhar chacha in the IPL who will blast this trundler out of the stadium

I just think that Morris, Jhye Richardson, Pat Cummins are being massively overpaid.

Only salary I agree with is Kyle Jamieson as I think he’s an ATG in the making. Worth holding on to even if he isn’t that potent right now.
 
Jamieson doesnt bat too high for NZ does he?? Is he that good? He pretty much bowls a length that travels in SC as well. This is a big gamble.

His height is a valuable commodity. He can bat as well. Right now he’s not that great but he will finish his career as an ATG bowling all rounder.

Pujara was the 1st Saurashtra player to score a T20 Hundred in SMAT.

Morris is certainly overpaid but I can understand why RR went for him for so high price.

Jamieson is also debatable. Tests are different from T20s. Let's see.

Yeah I had watched the highlights of the Pak-NZ t20 series..he was being picked of a length easily. Dont see him as a T20 bowler

It’s interesting you say that because I’m waiting for that poster to come and tell us how IPL is superior in everything including the auction system :)))

One of life’s great mysteries — how to reconcile the free and fair market nature of the auction system with the pricing of a “bang average” cricketer? I suspect a Nobel Prize in Economics is due to the best thesis on the topic.
 
People who are cribbing about money, always remember Pavan Negi was sold for 8.5 crore in 2016. :ashwin
 
Great to see Pujara getting sold even if at his base price. However not sure whether his fragile knees will be able to go through rigours of 2 months long IPL.
 
I think its based on individual league rivalries and setups that comes into play, making it into a bidding war.. to stop other teams from going through with their plans.

Moen probably fits the CSK’s style of playing spinner/batsman.. any spinner batsman will usually fetch a lot.. but bidding war happened probably coz that

My assumption he is just there for fixing batting issues if youngsters , don’t see him playing unless Dhoni wanted someone to take blame for the fall?

Knowing how CSK functions, won't be surprising to me if he ends up playing more than half the games CSK plays.

House wives whether illiterate or literate are very good money managers only men can be foolish and spend extravagantly on unnecessary baggage

6.03 PM: Pawan Negi goes unsold. Kyle Jamieson is up next. RCB and Delhi take the bid up to Rs. 1 Crore. Both teams still in the fray as the bid quickly goes up to Rs. 6 Crore. Punjab enters with a bid of Rs. 7.75 Crore. Delhi drops out. RCB puts up a Rs. 10 Crore bid. Bid is up to Rs. 12 Crore with RCB. RCB rises the paddle for a Rs. 13 Crore bid. Scratch that. 5.57 PM: Rovman Powell, Shaun Marsh, Devon Conway, Rassie van der Dussen go unsold at base price of Rs. 50 lakh. Corey Anderson, Darren Bravo remain unsold at base price of Rs. 75 lakh.
