Indian restaurant in Bahrain shut down for denying entry to veiled woman: Report

The restaurant authorities apologised for the action of the duty manager who allegedly barred the entry of a veiled woman and said the person concerned has been suspended.

An Indian restaurant in Islamic country Bahrain's Adliya has been closed by the authorities after it allegedly denied entry to a veiled woman, Gulf Daily News reported. The restaurant authority has put out an apology statement on social media expressing regret for the incident. The duty manager has been suspended, the authorities said. According to reports, the duty manager is an Indian.

Bahrain news outlets reported that the incident came to the fore after the video of a restaurant staff blocking a veiled woman went viral on social media platforms. Bahrain Tourism and Exhibition Authority has launched a probe and asked all tourism outlets to avoid any policy that violates the laws of the kingdom. "We reject all actions that discriminate against people, especially regarding their national identity," the authorities said, as quoted by a local media.

The restaurant management posted a statement on social media and said this incident does not represent the authorities. "Everyone is welcome to Lanterns as how it has been for more than 35 years that we have been serving all nationalities in the beautiful kingdom of Bahrain. Lanterns is a place for everyone to come enjoy with their families and feel at home. In this instance, a mistake has been made by a manager who is now being suspended as this does not represent who we are. As a goodwill gesture, we welcome all our Bahraini patrons to Lanterns on Tuesday 29th of March to have complimentary food on us," the statement posted on Instagram read.

The incident has drawn the attention of Indian social media users as it comes amid the ongoing hijab row in Karnataka. The Karnataka high court has upheld the state government's ban on hijab inside educational institutions and said hijab is not essential to Islamic practice.

With governments mandating masks to combat Covid one would have thought face-coverings had become accepted and normalized. It means, though, that whilst covering the face is okay for fighting disease it is not okay as an expression of religious faith.

I am opposed to both masks for Covid and veils for religion (which, incidentally, have nothing to do with Islam) - concealing the face dehumanizes the individual and society. Having said that, people must be given the right to choose for themselves what is best and right for them, others - including the State - should not impose fascist diktats to compel people to act contrary to their beliefs.

There is mention of head-coverings - Hijab - and some controversy in India regarding it, a subject I know zero about. It is worth mentioning here that Abrahamic religions require men and women to be modestly attired, for women to cover their hair/head. For the Faithful, modesty resides in the heart and is reflected through intentions and the actions that give rise to them.

2) Detailed, specific information about actual or potential side effects.

Since information regarding the second is not widely available or accessible, big pharma have been indemnified against damages and reported cases of myocarditis appear to be directly linked to the vaccines - and so on - the first becomes problematic.

Also, how do CV-19 vaccines interact with other medications people might be taking - how do they impact people with serious conditions like, say, chronic kidney disease? There is not enough data about the vaccines and we know that sometimes side effects can take months, years, even decades, to become apparent.

So, I am not against vaccines - only against coercion, compulsion, propaganda and disinformation. And the question must be asked, why have so many doctors, nurses, academics, scientists and so on been silenced for questioning, opposing the narratives surrounding the pandemic and vaccines? Why has social media de-platformed them, why have Western governments revoked their right to express an opinion different to theirs? Is that how real science is practiced - I don't think so. Why, for instance, are people not allowed to ask relevant questions, for instance, how many vaccinations - boosters, double, triple boosters - does it take to prevent, cure Covid? Not 1, 2, 3, or 4 - so how many in less than one year? Why can't it be said, if the triple-vaxxed are still subject to infection what is the purpose of the vaccine?

While I do believe that there are some valid questions to be asked reg Covid vaccines (which have been tested to work but there are concerns about how it would react with other medicines plus some people have had major level complications because of it).....I don't think I agree with your other views.

1. Goal of vaccines is not necessarily to prevent a disease from ever happening again. It is to dinimish the impact of the disease and reduce the rate of transmission. I got a chicken pox vaccine but still got a mild case of chicken pox a decade later. Doesn't mean the vaccine didn't work or wasnt useful.

2. Asking how many boosters we would need to prevent covid is not the right way to think about it because we are battling against a virus that mutates into dangerous variants causing infection waves. Science is all about making the best of what we have in a structured and scientific manner. I get the opposition to dissent part but when there's massive miscommunication during pandemic, its the lesser of the 2 evils.

Imagine if Covid had turned out to be more deadlier than we thought with variants mutating dangerously with vaccines being rolled out more slowly and with no insistence on people to take them.....what could have happened? You and I would be sitting here and cursing the establishment for taking a more laidback approach.

Anyways, its a whole new topic and we are in opposite ends of the spectrum.
