It is part of their culture to be fair. They even have a Goddess Lakshmi dedicated to wealth, and it is reflected in how they attempt to make derogatory comments about Pakistan and Bangladeshi communities abroad based on wealth, because they think it gives them more standing abroad like it does in India.

One thing I always appreciated about Muslims is that while wealth is appreciated, it is not the ultimate value system. Look how far it gets Indians when they believe it somehow buys them favour in the top tiers of western society:
