I am not generalizing about all Indians but I have seen on IMDB (and other movie websites of late) that all subjectivity goes out the window when it comes to anything Indian. There were inflated votes and reviews before on IMDB about Indian movie but it was mostly due to not being exposed to better movies and and didn't come from a malicious place.

I don't know if these are real accounts of people who have gone full nationalist and won't even tolerate one word of criticism (constructive or otherwise) or even a different opinion or accounts made by government/party funded cells promoting the narrative (Again something I've heard about, correct me if I'm wrong.

I have seen this behaviour of late in many run of the mill nationalistic movies where they are giving high scores and rave reviews while movies that are about the problems/ills of society or portray India in a bad (if real) light are immediately attacked and down voted.

The reason I made this thread is that I was searching for the reviews for Hasan Mihnaj's show, The Patriot Act, just look at the number of 1 ratings and bad reviews from Indians especially since he made the anti-Modi episode and then updated the Kashmir situation right before the last episode at the end of the year.

How do I know they're Indian? All you have to do is look at the usernames and if that doesn't suffice then literally read the reviews yourselves.

Here is the list of latest reviews (see the usernames, date and contents of the people who gave it a 1)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8080054/reviews?sort=submissionDate&dir=desc&ratingFilter=0

Here is a list of all the people who gave it a 1 (Once again check the usernames, date and content of the people who gave it 1)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8080054/reviews?sort=helpfulnessScore&dir=desc&ratingFilter=1

And this is just one example, I can give many others.

So my sincere question is, is there more of a likelihood that these are real people who have become more nationalist or are they paid shills?

One of the reviews read below:

This show is aimed at brainwashing pre-teens and teenagers with extreme leftist watered down explanations of the world's biggest issues. This show is full of bias and misinformation that not only paints a simple "bad vs good" narrative for each issue, but it also preaches solutions to some of the biggest conflicts in USA and the world.

Hasan Minhaj has a great superiority complex and acts as a messiah to his fans, who not only watch this garbage, but they also form perceptions based on his propaganda.

A sad, show that only feeds of innocent minds and fills them with biased, selective facts. Make sure your kids don't watch this, and if they do, tell them to just watch it for Hasan's rare comedy which makes an appearance amidst his agenda.

Lol I want to say there is some truth in that statement , unlke Jon Stewart or John Oliver ,Hassan does have a bias but that's what makes him different though..

Now its not the Liberal's fault that there are no right wing/Conservative comedians..

The weirdest review is below:

:)) ah its been so long since I read IMDB reviews, I use PP for movie review , I first noticed this bias 5-6 years ago in south Indian cinema where every movie was initially at 9, coz all the fan boys were going crazy ,Vishwaroopam was at 9, thats when i stopped checking imdb reviews and haven't since then.

I think this is what will happen in future :

All random bot and biased reviews will become so tedious that society will go back to genuine critic reviews or reviews of someone in their circle.

Atleast in amazon there is a verified purchase option, how will imdb/google set aside genuine reviews from fake ones?

thats pbly why they made a seperate leaderboard for indian films.

either way, indians outnumber everyone on most internet platforms, i dont even read comments on cric vids on youtube anymore, nothing else to do but ignore it.

Why can't there be biased reviews. What happened to FoE?

I think internet should not be global and there should be internet borders. Walls should be created so that one nationality doesn't pollute the content for other nations. You apply for an internet visa if you want the privilege to access content meant for other nations.

We've changed beyond recognition over last 5.5 years.

Excellent, I hope they continue doing that to **** off those who has a problem with people voicing their opinions.

its no secret that Indian movies(especially bollywood) is crap . I have watched like 2 movies in past 5 years . There is nothing nationalist about overrating these low quality movies , on the contrary its its the so called liberals who are obsessed with movie and even worse the move starts .

Please re read my post, I did not say anything about the run of the mill movies, I was talking about the patriotic/nationalistic movies where "most" people give it 10 and give 1s to anything that slightly criticizes India or its social structures, norms etc.

Every country makes patriotic movies as people love to be proud of their ancestors/compatriots etc and there is always a bit of bias involved but the amount of hate anyone gets in questioning such movies and their accuracy or anything anti is just on a different level.

I didn't get the latter part of your post about liberals obsessed about a movie and even worse a movie starts?

Movie stars..

Anyone remember discussion boards of IMDB on individual movie/tv/celebrity pages? I believe after IMDB ended the discussion boards for the same reasons some of those trolls moved to the reviews section.

Problem is genuine critic reviews these days are also really rare to come by, everyone is extremely political and biased now. Some of the reviews I see on rottentomatoes from well known critics is just mind boggling.

Also I think many are bought off or influenced in one way or another to give positive reviews or at least not bash a very bad movie, especially if it's a potential commercial blockbuster. As for the supposed "art" or "indie" movies, don't even get me started.

Yup but i think the reviewers on Roger ebert site is pretty good, the most it comes to being genuine..

Although while watching netflix’s show ‘movies that made us’ apparently he gave a very poor review to Home Alone.. which makes me think he was a purist..

The worst time I had with reviews was with Richard Jewel and Bombshell, critics went crazy with bias also the timing of both movies was terrible.

And yeah the superhero Marvel /Dc /Disney movie reviews are the worst I’m absolutely not into checking Rotten tomatoes for them.

That was their biggest mistake and people still condemn it. There are many sites that have copied their database and if you become a member there they merge all your previous IMDB posts to their board but the communities aren't that big or post that often, not to mention discussing a movie with people on the page of the movie itself.

They basically removed the best part where people would get together to praise, bash or criticize actors, movies, etc which is basically the best part of seeing a movie, the ability to discuss and dissect it with others.

Yeah my point was them being forced to give good or impartial reviews for very bad movies. For example I checked the ratings for the new movie Cats which has a 2.4 rating on IMDB and 21% on rotten tomatoes but in the top critics review section almost half of them are praising or being impartial.

This was not the case before as really bad movies were severely mocked and criticized but since it is a big production with big names they are letting it pass.

There are a couple of scathing and hilarious reviews though but they are mostly by the lesser known critics.

Yeah some of them were dark though..

the reminder my fav is the one Forrest Gump:

None of the stuff he talked about when he was sitting on the bench actually happened?—?at least not to him directly.
Think about it. Here’s a guy who won the medal of honor, international ping pong championship, cross-country runner, multi-millionaire, etc, etc, etc yet no one on the bench that he talks to recognizes him (or really believes him)? Also, once we’re in the present time, he doesn’t do anything extraordinary anymore, nor does he do anything to show his vast wealth!
As for the pictures that Jenny shows him in magazines and newspapers, I’m thinking his friends and family printed those things out to support his imagination, or whatever that is, because they see that it brings him a lot of happiness to talk about. —mherbert219

I really found this review by the Hindustan Times critic Rohan Nahaar re Cats quite hilarious

January 3, 2020
In it, Ian McKellan (winner of 6 Laurence Olivier Awards, a Tony, a Golden Globe, a SAG Award, 4 Drama Desks, and 2 Critics' Choice Awards, a two-time Oscar and four-time BAFTA nominee) says the words 'meow, meow', while licking the back of his hand.

:)))
