Excellent lineup, but Ganguly over Dravid and Zaheer over Pandya. Ganguly has batted at 4 at times and was a much better ODI player than Dravid.

Tendulkar

In the long run, I hope Pandya can take one of pacers role, and Kuldeep or Chahal to take Bhajji's role.

SG would open but for Rohit. Zak offered little with the bat. It has enough bowling. My logic. I respect all selections.

Much as a I love Dravid as a personality and Test player, he has no place in an all-time ODI team.

I would take harbhajan over srinath. Better balance plus a better slogger.Also.ganguly at 3 and kohli at 4

Depends on the conditions. On a turning pitch, you can leave him out. On a pace-friendly wicket, Kumble alone is enough.

Considered him but JB is simply better.

12th: Ganguly

Can’t push the GOAT to number 4 to accommodate the angry dwarf. I think Gambhir can handle number 4 if you need to have him in your team.

Much as a I love Dravid as a personality and Test player, he has no place in an all-time ODI team.

Sachin Tendulkar
Rohit Sharma
Virat Kohli
Yuvraj Singh
MS Dhoni (C)
Suresh Raina
Kapil Dev
Harbhajan Singh
Anil Kumble
Zaheer Khan
Jasprit Bumrah

12th Man: Irfan Pathan

Ganguly for me was best as an opener and he couldn't nudge those two out. So no point having him lower down. Also thought of Sehwag, Gambhir and Azharuddin, but again, Sehwag, Gambhir are best suited to be openers. And Azhar was too inconsistent. Besides, keeping an eye out on Kapil AND Azhar at the same time would be a difficult task for the rest of the guys :smith

VK is not GOAT. I have him 4th, at a minimum Viv and SRT are better as of now. Ponting is the other but that's not a lock.

People have their preferences but he is surely in the mix. I consider him the GOAT considering what he has achieved so far and has still 5-6 years at least.

8 or 9 players are universal picks.

When cricinfo picked their WC XI, only 1 name was universal. That was Akram. Shows how rare uniformity of views is, so 8 or 9 is very high.

The definite locks are -

Sachin
Kohli
Dhoni
Kapil

The almost locks are -
Rohit
Yuvraj
Srinath
Bumrah
Kumble

So I have -

Sachin
Rohit
Virat
Yuvraj
?
Dhoni
Kapil
Kumble
Srinath
?
Bumrah

The two spots can go to anyone - but for #5 I'd go with Raina, who did very selfless work in that position (+great fielder and able to chuck out a few overs if needed.). #9 is more contentious, Any of Zaheer / Bhajji / Pandya (Push the other bowlers down one spot each) can come in depending on the pitch.

India’s ATG ODI XI would have a MONSTROUS batting line up :-

Tendulkar - GOAT
Sharma - 2nd GOAT opener
Kohli - GOAT chaser/#3
Ganguly - legend
Yuvraj - legend
Dhoni - GOAT finisher
Dev - GOAT ODI AR

Much as a I love Dravid as a personality and Test player, he has no place in an all-time ODI team.

If Dhoni had not arrived as WK batsman, then Dravid would have found place as WK... Such low standard keepers (batting-wise) we had! Only Pant is showing the promise (and probably the modern brigade!) As much we hate Dhoni today, he did raise the standards of WK/Batsman for India!

SRT
Rohit
Kohli
Yuvi
Dhoni
Raina
Dev
Kumble
Srinath*
Zaheer*
Bumrah

12th man - Bhajji for time being but either one of KulCha can make it if they can replicate their current numbers for next 5 years

Either one of Srinath/Zaheer can be replaced by the extra spinner for the spin friendly conditions.

Vikram Rathore
Sadagoppan Ramesh
Soma Sunder Das
Jacob Martin
Atul Bedade
Vijay Dahiya
Romesh Powar
Dinda
Dodda Ganesh
Nilesh Kulkarni/ Ashish Kapoor
Harvinder Singh

for those inserting Ganguly into middle order.. please take look at the stats below. Instead of choosing the best 11, if we choose the best man for each position, then Ganguly don't even make into top 20 middle order batters for India.

Highest runs scored for India between positions 4,5,6
http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/en...rby=runs;team=6;template=results;type=batting

Azhar has same average as Raina at much slower SR.
Dravid has slightly better average but scores at a lot slower than Raina

Plus Raina can chip in with a few overs if needed and the best fielder in this team.

That phase of his career when an offspinner came on and you just knew it was going to disappear. The chase with Yuvraj in Pakistan. Too many memories to judge him by his end.

1. Sachin Tendulkar
2. Rohit Sharma
3. Virat Kohli
4. Sourav Ganguly (c)
5. Yuvraj Singh
6. MS Dhoni (wk)
7. Kapil Dev
8. Harbhajan Singh

6. Raina
7. Pandya
8. Ashwin [subcontinent]/ Bhuvi [otherwise]
9. Kapil Dev
10. Shami/Zaheer
11. Bumrah

12th man : Jadeja

Hard choice between Rohit and Sehwag but Sehwag can destroy opposition's main bowler and deflate his confidence like he did to Umar gul's in Mohali. Also, he can utilise Powerplay much more effectively.

Our bowling currently is the best we ever had, so I will stick with them. Only kapil dev comes into my team from yesteryears mainly because of his all round capabilities or I don't consider player from those amateur years to cope up with rigorous demand of modern day cricket.

This team can bat till 9 and also we can bring in Jadeja in place of Ashwin or Zaheer once they finish up their quota to beef up fielding.

Cannot imagine a better XI for India.

Ganguly at 4 makes no sense. These are best 11 player about don't make a team.

Yuvi-raina-dhoni is middle order as a best XI team.

Rest of team is perfect maybe Kuldeep or pandya can replace one of the spinners in future if they can have a stellar career.

shami kuldeep chahal can make it if they continue their respective tracks.

1. Tendulkar
2. Sehwag
3. Kohli
4. Yuvraj
5. Raina
6. MS Dhoni (WK + Cpt)
7. Kapil Dev
8. Pandya
9. Zaheer Khan
10. Shami
11. Bumrah

Rohit Sharma is uneccesary with a top 3 containing Sachin Tendulkar & Virat Kohli. Those are the two players you want accumulating runs & Sehwag is the perfect bomb to start off an innings and potentially win the game in the first 10.

1) sehwag
2) rohit
3) sachin
4) kohli
5) yuvraj
6) dhoni (c)(wk)
7) kapil
8) bhaji
9) kumble / shami
10) zaheer
11) bumrah

Can't believe people are including Yadav, Chahal, Bumrah, Shami etc. Bowlers like Irfan Pathan, Zaheer Khan etc picked up their first 100-125 wickets at averages of 25 or less. Can't include players that have barely taken 100 wickets in All time 11s

Kapil will be captain!
1.Sehwag
2.Rohit
3.Sachin
4.Kohli/Azar (tough to decide)
5.Yuvi
6.Dhoni

Actually I wanted to have Ganguly at no 3 where he averages a brilliant 52.

But I know that if I displace Kohli from no 3 many here would lose their minds. :P

But yeah ideally I would have Ganguly at 3 and Kohli at 4.

Sachin, Rohit, Ganguly, Kohli, Yuvraj, Dhoni, Kapil - there cannot be a better top 7 from one country in the history of the game.

But that takes out the 2nd best batsmen in history of cricket. SRT is best batsmen ever, Rohit is 2nd best opener they will play good number of overs in most matches. So we need 2nd best player Kohli to come in at 3 to get as much time in middle as possible.

We can't let the 2nd best batsmen ever to play at number 4 where he won't get time to be a Kohli.

For team balance Raina is much more needed than ganguly. Ganguly is competing with Sachin, Rohit, sehwag and Kohli spot. He loses to all 4 of them :).

Other than Kapil and Sachin - I don't think there would be too many yesteryear players in an all-time ODI XI. The fitness standards and fielding abilities of the players of today put those of the past into insignificance.

Thats why when comparing players you don’t compare players between eras. Only between contemporaries. And if a person is ahead of his contemporaries in a given era, he will also adapt in any era.

Bradman’s gap to the next best is so high that he would be the greatest in any era.

12th man : sehwag

Selected hardik only because he is batting allrounder and complete the 5th bowler quota with yuvraj singh.India didn't have batting allrounder before.

3. Rahul Dravid
4. Sachin Tendulkar

Kapil

Zak is also good and having a leftie in white ball cricket gives an advantage, which is proven historically. But Shami can't be dropped after a legendary World Cup tournament. He had fitness issues so Zak can come in when he or Bumrah is not available.

Lokesh Rahul, haha 😂

Get Mr. IPL, Suresh Raina in at 3 and open with Kohli.

For ODI

1) Sachin Tendulkar
2) Rohit Sharma
3) Virat Kohli
4) Sourav Ganguly
5) Yuvraj Singh
6) MS Dhoni (C) (Sorry kapil dev, Dhoni is my kaptaan)

10) Bumrah

Perfect.
Depending on the pitch, I will swap Pandya for Kumble as this lineup already covers spinners like Kuldeep, Yuvi, and other part-time spinners.

I would have selected the exact same team!

You have 8 bowling options in that team.. WOW!

Infact jadeja also not justify his position in ODIs i will rather add Irfan Pathan and Ashwin

Irfan > Jadeja > Ashwin for me.

Irfan was impact player. Jadeja is better than Ashwin due to his extraordinary contribution in fielding.

Irfan > Jadeja > Ashwin for me.

Irfan was impact player. Jadeja is better than Ashwin due to his extraordinary contribution in fielding.
if u talk about impact player then nobody can match the class of Hardik Pandya, he is above all of them.

Bhaijaan’s Updated ATG Bharatiya ODI XI :-

Sachin Tendulkar
Rohit Sharma
Virat Kohli
Mohd. Azharuddin
Yuvraj Singh
MS Dhoni
Kapil Dev (Kaptaan)
Hardik Pandya
Anil Kumble / Mohd Shami (*as per pitch)
Jaspit Bumrah
Kuldeep Yadav

Major changes :-
  • Philosophy - Aggression, match winning ability and picking players perfect for the position.
  • Consciously loaded the team with ARs as per modern day cricket requirements. Provides flexibility and elongates the batting depth.
  • Ganguly dropped as Virat moves to #3
  • Azharuddin picked at #4 for his record at that position, flexibility, slogging ability as required by modern day cricket
  • Pandya & Kuldeep picked. Both finally made it in my ATG XI
  • Shreya’s is knocking at the door. 2-3 years of solid performances at #4-5 spot will see him replacing Mohd Azharuddin. I could do it now also but guess he must earn it by scoring a lot more runs. Can’t just give it to him on the basis of 2,000 runs
  • Sehwag, Dhawan, Ganguly miss out despite being great players because the Top 3 pretty much picked themselves and I wouldn’t play openers in the middle order.
  • Gambhir couldn’t make it at #3 because of Kohli. Otherwise absolute gigachad.

IN ASIAN CONDITIONS

S.Tendulkar
V.Kohli
M.Azharuddin
