The last time India won a match against NZ in an ICC event was back in 2003 after that it's always been NZ coming on top for the last 18 years be it round matches or Semi-Final in 2019 WC or final of the Test Championship or virtual knockout matches like the one being played today. I think it's 7-0 or something after 2003

Would like to know the reasons behind this? It's not like NZ has been a top team throughout these 18 years but on the other side, India was at their peak during this time and was always fav.

Probably not able to figure out how to beat NZ in ICC tournaments anywhere in the world.

India has to break this streak, I think New Zealand in an icc event will be a bigger achievement for india than winning the tournament

Nikhil_cric I thought we couldn't beat anyone outside NZ?

New Zealand have completely owned India in ICC events. India should be winning on paper, but NZ always find a way.

They are a better team against us, less hype more substance.
In all honesty the whole country(NZ) in every field seems to be that way ; academics , sports .

Well, I didn't think about it from the perspective of statistics but was wondering as to when India last beat New Zealand in a big game.

The World Cup 2003 match that has been referred to, I remember that match. Even there, if their batsmen had given Shane Bond a defendable total, he might've done that as well. He was on fire that day, if I recall correctly.

NZ are a well drilled outfit. They field brilliantly, bowl a great line and length and have good batsmen. No superstars or anything like India claims to have but the likes of Williamson are incredibly consistent. They make it very hard for teams to score freely. Give it up for the black caps:14:

India's Poor Track Record Against New Zealand In World Cups Explained In NumbersIND vs NZ: In total, the two teams have met in World Cups (ODIs and T20Is) on 11 occasions with India winning just two and losing 9

India's abject surrender to New Zealand in Dubai on Sunday was yet another setback against a team, which the 'Men in Blue' have found difficult to get past at the global stage. India has now lost three matches at the T20 World Cup to the Kiwis and yet to record a victory against them in the tournament. Add to that their losses in the ODI World Cups, which includes the heartbreaking semi-final defeat in 2019, and this is becoming a dangerous trend for the team. Not just that, India also lost in the final of the inaugural ICC World Test Championship to the Blackcaps. To understand this further, we need to delve deeper into the history of the rivalry between the two teams.

While India has often held sway in bilateral series, their last win over New Zealand in a World Cup (across formats), came 18 years ago in Centurion, during Sourav Ganguly's Indian team's journey to the final of the 2003 ODI World Cup. India have since lost to the Kiwis at the 2007 ICC WT20 and the last event at home in 2016 and the 2019 ODI World Cup semi-final.

In total, the two teams have met in World Cups (ODIs and T20Is) on 11 occasions with India winning just two and losing 9.

India's loss in Dubai means they are among a handful of top teams, who are yet to register a win against a particular opposition in T20 World Cups.

The Indian team will have to work hard to bounce back from the twin disasters and it has to be the senior members of the team who will have to play a big role if India are to finish the tournament with at least a few wins under their belt. The team isn't yet out of contention for a place in the semi-final, and fate depends on whether they win their remaining matches with big margins and also on Afghanistan beating New Zealand.

It happens, its not a big deal.

Pakistan once lost a lot of games against SA , If I am not wrong around 14 - 15 consecutive games.

Yeah, remember that. Bond was bowling absolute rockets that day. Cleaned up Ganguly with a 153k inswinging yorker. Next over he got Dravid to knick a straightforward chance which McCulllum dropped. You could immediately see everyone's shoulders sag and with only 150ish to defend India coasted to victory. Bit like Wahab v Watto in the 2015 qf.

147 was always going to be too little on that track.

Funnily enough that game was also the last full member nation we beat in a 50-over World Cup until we got past West Indies in our final group game in Chennai in the 2011 World Cup (prior to which we had tied against England and lost against South Africa).

My brother was a huge fan of Bond, and it didn't take me long either to follow suit. Kids nowadays don't know how seriously capable he was as a bowler. A pity that his career was hampered by injuries.
