In light of recent events, I thought this would be a good share for those who haven't seen it before:

The Other Side of Suez (BBC Documentary)

<iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/ETOUALw2EIs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

This is a story of how the government of the United Kingdom decided to attack an Arab nation; of how, afraid its oil supplies were under threat, it embarked on a strategy of regime change; of how Britian deliberately bypassed the United Nations, and of how a British prime minister led the nation to war based on suspect intelligence.

But this isn't Iraq, 2003. This is Egypt, 1956.

Been watching an old BBC series on Youtube called 'Infamous Assassinations'. There are 26 parts of half an hour each, narrated by Robert Powell. Polished, educational, and of the correct concise length.

That is a documentary series we were shown in History last week - one of the episodes details the death of Trotsky (relevant as we are studying Russian history from 1917-1940, i.e the rise of the Bolshevik Party and predominantly Stalin's influence upon the USSR between the years 1924-1940). I'm hoping to get round to watching all of the episodes of the series.

Anyway, this is quite an interesting thread - looking to watch most/all of the documentaries mentioned in this thread.

i liked this one, shows the manipulative excellence of a brilliant political thinker

What is the connection between a mysterious golden pot found in a lake, a castle, Hitler's quest for the Holy Spear and a hunt for the Holy Grail? This is the story of the secret headquarters through slave labor was built by Himmler.

Anyone heard of Jesus Camp? Even Conservative christian preachers disapprove of what is done by those nutjobs at the camp.

Re: Interesting Documentaries...

Need to go through some of these mentioned.

Bloodz &Crips - Made in America: http://youtu.be/vdv08c0aiTE .
I thought it would be the usual gangland type documentary where the gangs claim to be harder than their counterparts. Surprisingly it wasn't rather it looked at the history behind the gangs. Definitely worth a watch.

Deep Web- about the Silk Road & conviction of it's founder (it was a online drugs market). Interesting stuff.

damn i've been looking for things on the silk road but was unable to find anything. thanks! as a side note, i met a few brazilians at EDC in 2013...who told me about silk road and that they had been using it for over 3 years.just makes me realize how popular it really was

It was on my watchlist for a long time, finally saw 'Inside Job' today. The 2008 economic meltdown now does not seem too surprising given the activities of the investment banks like Goldman Sachs & the rating agencies.

Shudder to think what would happen now if another Goldman Sachs appointee Hillary comes to power. Now understand the reason behind Larry Summers's outburst at Raghuram Rajans paper predicting the recession in 2005. Hope he never comes anywhere near the Treasury.

Before the Flood | National Geographic

Before the Flood, directed by Fisher Stevens, captures a three-year personal journey alongside Academy Award-winning actor and U.N. Messenger of Peace Leonardo DiCaprio as he interviews individuals from every facet of society in both developing and developed nations who provide unique, impassioned and pragmatic views on what must be done today and in the future to prevent catastrophic disruption of life on our planet.

This is the story of millions of migrant workers from sub continent. Very interesting and touching documentary.

The Vietnam War by Ken Burns is a masterpiece but the individual episodes are so long that you have to treat each as a mini-movie. Watched four, need to plough my way through the remaining six episodes if I find time.

The House of Saud by the BBC was good, if a little unfocused.

Murder Rap - Inside the Biggie and Tupac Murders (2015)

Provides the strongest insight into the murders of Tupac and Biggie yet. It presents the findings of an investigation by a LAPD taskforce formed in 2006 to look into the murders and the conclusions of the investigation are pretty sound and plausible unlike the many conspiracy theories.

Zero Hour - Massacre at Columbine High .

Very well made reconstruction of the tragic incident.

Murdered For Love? (BBC2)

Explores the murder of Samia Shahid from the UK in Pakistan. Depressing stuff.

Elusive Peace.

https://youtu.be/FEHqDG1EVHQ

Very insightful on the Israeli-Palestinian peace process in the late 90s and early 2000s, namely the Camp David summit and the First Intifada.

Features interviews with Ariel Sharon, Yasser Arafat, Bill Clinton and Ehud Barak.

Any pakistani expat in the middle east would relate with this. Very emotional

thanks for sharing this, so heart warming. Reminds me of my childhood holidays to my dads village

I think Spartacus fans would love Andy Whitfield's "Be Here Now". I actually just found this yesterday and it was very emotional and inspiring at the same time. Highly recommended.

Will definitely see this one. Huge Andy fan here. I didn't surf the net back in 2012 for news often. So i only learned of his news after watching the second season trailer in 2011/2012.

His replacement acted brilliantly but Andy really owned that role. He will always be spartacus for us.

Watched it. Very depressing man. Will never watch anything related to this plague called honor killing. I can't stomach it

Watched Waco: the story that shocked the world.

6-part series from Paramount Network based on the true story that shocked the world of religious leader David Koresh’s Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas in 1993.

Enjoyed it, very interesting and worth a watch.
