IPL 2018 | April 29 | Day 23 | Discussion Thread

Yeah bro the third umpire will check for lbw as well. Same will happen in the opposite scenario too. At the time of appealing the fielders and the bowler don’t tell the umpire what they’re appealing for and when the umpire says not out, he declares that the batsman is not out under any law of cricket. So if the ball tracking shows umpire’s call, the original not out decision will stand.

My point was he can be given out by DRS for an LBW even if there is an umpires call scenario. But then ,onfield umpire originally gave that out for caught at short leg and not LBW. Then how come umpires call gets a batsman out in an LBW scenario ?

How many matches would it take for Kohli to understand that Siraj is not a death bowler? Very poor captainship.

He is pretty dumb as captain. But TBF , whoever he has selected as death bowler , be it overseas ones , have gone for plenty.

Guys , I have a doubt regarding DRS. Suppose umpire gives a batsman out for a supposed inside edge onto pads and caught at short leg or wherever. Batsman refers. No inside edge. Does the third umpire then checks for LbW ? If so , what if there is an umpires call situation for ball pitched in line or hit the pad ? Umpire dint give out for LBW

Yes. 3rd UMp will check for LBW then, Umpire's call will still be whateever the on field Ump gave initially

There are 2 type of deliveries for which Umesh Yadav is the best ever in the history of cricket. Leg stump half volley and short & wide outside off. Gems

This IPL,we have seen Vintage Umesh yadav.I thought he'd improve after that brilliant NZ Odi series(2016) but guess I was wrong.

It almost feels like Kohli tries to place fielders where the batsmen won't hit.

RCB are such an embarrassment - they are paying their bowlers mega bucks (Yadav $650k, Chahal $900k, Siraj $400k, Saini $450k, M Ashwin $350k) but as a bowling unit they are pathetic.

Sorry didn’t notice that. In that case it’ll be given out as that was the on field decision. As we know, third umpire cannot overrule an on field decision unless there is conclusive evidence against it. The same rule applies for any decision by the third umpire under any circumstances. So if ball tracking shows “umpire’s call” when they check for lbw after making sure the batsmen didn’t nick the ball, they’ll stick with the on field decision.

I understand the confusion though. When the review system was about to be introduced there were discussions as to whether they should only check the type of dismissal the umpire gave it out/not out for or check for all possible types of dismissals. If they don’t, it really beats the purpose of having all these different technologies in place.
