Willey to join up with Chennai Super Kings

David Willey has agreed to sign for Indian Premier League team Chennai Super Kings.

The all-rounder left the Fischer Ground on Monday morning during Yorkshire’s two-day friendly against Leicestershire to finalise terms with Chennai.

Willey’s late call-up comes after team-mate Liam Plunkett joined IPL side Delhi Daredevils on Saturday.

Martyn Moxon, Yorkshire’s Director of Cricket said: “We find ourselves in an impossible situation with these late replacement requests.

“At the moment, we are potentially looking at a situation where if we deny a player an opportunity, we will be left with someone who is not completely focused on playing for Yorkshire. This would be counter-productive.

“There are now 12 English players in this year’s IPL, so the issue goes further than just here at Emerald Headingley.

“I will be chairing a meeting with other directors of cricket tomorrow at Edgbaston to discuss the future of the game. With the number of domestic T20 contracts available worldwide, it is important that we future-proof the County Championship. I will be calling for the introduction of a cut-off date, after which players will not be allowed to go to the IPL. Hopefully this can gain national approval and be supported by the ECB.”

The pitches in Hyderabad game today and Kolata game yesterday had some swing and bounce. It's a smart addition.

Cummins out of IPL with back injury

Australia fast bowler Pat Cummins has been ruled out of the Indian Premier League with a back issue, Cricket Australia has confirmed.

Cummins had been bought by the Mumbai Indians for $A1.05 million, but missed the opening match of the tournament, a narrow defeat to the Chennai Super Kings.

The 24-year-old has "bone oedema in his vertebrae" – in other words, swelling in the joint, which is not the more serious stress fracture.

CA's Bupa Support Team Physiotherapist, David Beakley said: "Pat experienced some back soreness during the fourth Test in South Africa. Follow-up scans have confirmed that he has bone oedema in his vertebrae.

"It is important that Pat has time off bowling, to prevent the injury becoming more serious and consequently we have made the decision to rule Pat out of the IPL.

"Pat will now undergo a period of recovery and rehabilitation and we will look to re-scan him in a few weeks to assess the healing.

"Following this we will be in a better position to decide on Pat's return to play timeline including participation in the limited overs tour of the UK."

The 24-year-old has played 13 consecutive Tests for Australia since being parachuted into the team on the India tour a year ago. He has bowled 447.5 overs across all formats since the start of the last Australian summer.

Cummins had a long history of back issues following his debut in the Australian Test team as an 18-year-old, but had proved one of Australia's most reliable and consistent bowlers since returning to the national side.

He played a key role in Australia's 4-0 Ashes series win and produced several key spells on the ill-fated South Africa tour, that saw him leap into the top ten of the ICC Test bowler rankings for the first time.

Cummins rose 12 places to equal sixth on the ICC charts after capturing 22 wickets at an average of 21 across the four Tests in South Africa, including nine in Johannesburg, his first visit back to the Bullring since his debut in 2011.

The latest issue places him in doubt for Australia's next international series, a five-match ODI series and one-off T20 against England in June, with a T20 tri-series in Zimbabwe also featuring Pakistan set to follow. His participation in that tour will become clearer following re-scans scheduled for later this month. A squad for the series against England has yet to be named.

Australia's next Test engagement is expected in October against Pakistan in the UAE before visits by South Africa, India and Sri Lanka next summer.

Cummins joins Mitchell Starc in being ruled out of the IPL, with the left-arm spearhead suffering from a leg injury that kept him out of the Johannesburg Test match.

Mitchell Marsh is recovering following successful ankle surgery, and has been ruled out of a stint in UK county cricket with London side Surrey. He is targeting a return for the start of the Australian summer.

Wiley is a good signing for us. Be interesting to see who replaces Cummins.

From that 3rd Test squad 4 down so far - Smith, Warner, Strac & Cummins. How many left from AUS squad (to SAF) in IPL?

I hope it’s a coincidence .....

I heard somewhere else also , why do you guys think there is something fishy? Am i missing something?

Major angst among English fans about departure of their premier players to IPL.

Not everything needs to be written or spoken, not every Cricket Board Chairman needs to run mouthpiece twice a day, for every issues - you can make your own story from there on.

I am telling my observation - 4 players, around $6 million worth is missing a 10 weeks tournament; even stress fractures these days don't take that much to heel ...... :(

Pat Cummins being ruled out of IPL 2018, so basically our two main bowlers are out of IPL

If Fizz plays more game for us, then we are DOOMED. That dude cant even bowl to one leg Jadhav and cost the game for us. I just hope MI signs someone and replaces Fizz in Playing XI. All of a sudden our bowling looks minnow level. :dw

Cummins could have probably played. I think they didnt want to risk him.

Even im also thinking the same, who would MI replaces Cummins. Im so mad at MI not retaining Johnson and now we are already short of two quality bowlers. First Jason Behrendorff (not sure if i spell it right), and now Cummins. I dont think We have even found replacement for Jason, and now need to find replacement for Cummins as well  It doesnt seem like we will defend our title :((

Plunkett gone . He would have been a good replacement.

Matt Henry ,Adam Milne, and Tymal Mills could be avaliable.

M Henry or Milne are fine, Mills God i hope not. We already got Fizz to leak runs for us, dont want Mills too.

If Henry or Milne or even Southee joins will make our bowling attack pretty well rounded.

Southee is an RCB player.

Mills is a decent T20 bowler. Adam Milne would be a good signing as he is a similar type of bowler to Cummins. Also Lockie Fergurson maybe avaliable.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has confirmed that Chennai will not play host to the next IPL match scheduled in the city due to security concerns following violence during the first home game for the Super Kings. CSK were to take on Rajasthan Royals at Chepauk on April 20, and this match along with all other home matches are likely to be shifted to Pune.

"CSK will be asked to move their home matches to Pune as the Chennai police has expressed their inability to provide adequate security for the remaining matches," IPL Chairman Rajeev Shukla told reporters in Jaipur on Wednesday.

Tuesday night’s game was allowed to carry on as per schedule despite massive protests regarding the Cauvery issue, which were held inside and outside the stadium while the game was in progress. The match itself had a few nervy moments starting with the toss being delayed due to match officials being unable to enter the stadium as planned.

CSK were scheduled to take on the Royal Challengers Bangalore in Chepauk on May 5, and that match is also unlikely to be held in Chennai. On April 28, CSK is scheduled to play the Mumbai Indians and Delhi Daredevils on April 30.

There was a major security scare in the eighth over of the first innings on Tuesday when shoes were thrown in the direction of Faf du Plessis and Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja was fielding on the boundary line at the time. Thankfully, the footwear missed Jadeja and was spotted by du Plessis outside the boundary. Four individuals were immediately arrested following the incident. Supporters were also spotted burning the yellow jerseys of the CSK players.

Outside the stadium, many fans wearing CSK T-shirts were attacked by protesters.

Several activists including actors were detained due to their involvement in the Anti-IPL protests by pro-Tamil parties in Chennai. Police were successful in chasing away agitators in certain areas.

There were over 4000 security personnel on duty on Tuesday who ensured the safety of players, officials, media personnel, broadcasting crew and allowed the match to be played.

IPL on Hotstar sets world record; TV ratings too on a high

The Indian Premier League match between the Chennai Super Kings and the Kolkata Knight Riders has created a world record for concurrent viewership on any streaming platform.

The Star India-backed OTT platform Hotstar has advertised the feat in a big manner, publishing full-page advertisements for the 55 lakh concurrent viewership during the Chennai-Kolkata IPL 2018 game. The number for the largest ever simultaneous viewership of a sports event online is verified by Akamai Technologies, the world’s largest and most trusted cloud delivery platform.

Riding high on the success of IPL’s maiden simulcast on Hotstar, Star India is also gearing up for more celebrations for the television broadcast numbers, which for Day One of the IPL 2018, are believed to be 40-50% higher than the 2017 IPL season opener on Sony network channels.

Star Sports is charting out a major marketing drive over the unprecedented ratings of the Mumbai Indians–Chennai Super Kings tie at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday, April 7. The consolidated IPL numbers have received a big boost from Star Sports’ regional broadcast strategy. Star Sports, targeting a consolidated 700 million viewers for IPL 2018, is broadcasting the league action in six languages across the 10 network channels and Hotstar.

The unprecedented viewership ratings will also give Star Sports sponsorship sales a major boost. The broadcaster, just shy of the ₹ 2,000 crore IPL ad sales target, has as of now sold more than 90% of the total IPL ad sales inventories. With the never before broadcast and streaming ratings, the spot sales of the unsold 7 to 8% inventory is expected to generate lucrative premiums for the broadcaster.

Viewership for the game between the KKR and CSK on April 10 has peaked at 5.5 million concurrent viewers, the IPL broadcaster has stated in a media release.

This is the largest on the Akamai platform for any live sporting event in the world and the largest for any single event online by a broadcaster. This is ahead of the previous high on the Akamai platform of 4.8 million peak concurrent users, established by Hotstar during the India and Pakistan ICC Champions Trophy Final in June 2017. The concurrent viewership of IPL on Hotstar exceeded the peak viewership of 4.6 million for the streaming of the inauguration of US President Donald Trump in January 2017.

“Crossing 5 million on a live sporting event is like breaking the 10-second barrier in the 100 meter dash. We are proud that we are the first to get here. But, of even more importance, we are excited that fans have embraced the immersive sports experience on Hotstar that has brought together live streaming, the expression of fan emotions and an interactive always-on game. This is the future of video online and we are excited to shape it. At this scale, we will be clearly testing the ability of different parts of the Internet to keep up with the dramatic growth in fan followership. And, we are delighted that Akamai has been a partner that has always walked in step with our ambitions and delivered the scale that we seek,” said Ajit Mohan, CEO, Hotstar.

“Hotstar is one of the pioneers in the live streaming industry in India, and has changed the way hundreds of millions of people consume content. With the hyper growth of mobile-first users, it’s important that platforms catering to them factor in the right technology to provide an experience that rivals, if not supersedes, a traditional broadcast experience. Akamai’s partnership with Hotstar has changed how people enjoy a variety of content ranging from general entertainment to live sports anytime, anywhere and on any device,” said Parimal Pandya, Vice President, Media, APJ, Akamai Technologies.

The tournament is streaming live on Hotstar in six languages – Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Kannada, Hindi and English – while Star Spots is broadcasting the action on ten channels, including the regional platforms.

http://www.cricketcountry.com/news/...request-to-use-brabourne-as-home-venue-701332

Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) lost their home games of VIVO IPL 2018 at Chepauk due to the Cauvery water dispute protests. The fans who waited for three years to see their team in action were in for more disappointment. Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune will be their home from hereon. However, The Times of India reported that CSK’s first choice was Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. BCCI turned down CSK’s request as they did not want Mumbai to host nearly 15 games.

BCCI had offered CSK four venues: Visakhapatnam, Thiruvananthapuram, Pune and Rajkot. After BCCI’s rejection, they finalised on Pune.

Mumbai Indians (MI) are playing seven of their home games at the Wankhede Stadium, alongside two playoffs. Brabourne is less than a kilometre away from Wankhede. A source was quoted as saying, “You can’t have 15 IPL matches in Mumbai alone. There are other cities as well, which can stage the matches.”

Last year, Pune hosted the now defunct Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) that ended as runners-up. The city has a sizeable following for MS Dhoni, the skipper of CSK, who played for RPS in the previous two seasons.

CSK, who have won both their games and are at No.2 in the points table, will face Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at Mohali for their next match.

Kamlesh Nagarkoti to miss IPL 2018 with a Foot Injury.

This is such a disappointing news.

Prasidh Krishna is a wonderful bowler, tall and extracts bounce and movement off the seam.

I have not watched GK Vishwanath but KL Rahul is the only Karnataka player who does not induce sleep in you.

Adam Millne has joined up with the Mumbai squad CanadianG00se

Dushmantha Chameera is out for at least 3 weeks of the IPL. Further tests can determine the exact time off. If he is ruled out then I think RR can sign one of Thishara Perera or John Hastings or Jason Holder. RR has a long tail from my observation with Gowtham at 7 followed by the bowlers. I read some reports where Junior Dala was linked with RR.

Lungi Ngidi is in doubt also after the unfortunate demise of his father. If he is ruled out then Junior Dala or Jhye Richardson are good options to pick.

I hope he replaces Fizz and bring in change in luck for us

Why are you so against the fizz, he and bumrah are our only good pacers. It has been the 3rd pacer/spinner who has let us down in all matches. First mccleneghan, then cutting and last of all THE SL spinner.

Fizz cant hold bat to save his life...

McCleneghan and Cutting can whack with bat. Fizz is no Starc or Cummins with the bowl either

He is no 10 don't need him to hold his bat and he bowls a million times better than mccleneghan and cutting combined.

Thats a Myth. If he was that good MI wouldnt be 0-3 right now.

He was poor in the first game but so was bumrah, these are his last 2 game nos. 4-0-25-1, 4-0-24-3, yes he is the problem isn't he. Take off the those i hate fizz colored glasses my friend.

LOL at RCB's bowling - they've played 4 matches and have conceded 177, 155 (their only decent bowling performance), 217 and now 213.

Fizz is getting Phainty again and McCleneaghan actually bowling much better. Whats the excuse now?

I dont hate Fizz i just think he gets lot of credit for bowling few magical spell in his debut series. What has he actually done after that? Cutters or nothing type bowler will not with you CHAMPIONSHIP

Funny how you completely ignore 2 completed matches but want to brag about 2 overs and going for 10-11 in a pp isn't something bad especially on a pitch where we scored 213.

Mccleneghan has been great today but his over was what messed up CSK game but let's completely ignore that as that doesn't suit your agenda.

Yet you failed to mention one ocassion when Fizz actually won a game for his team with his bowling. I stand correct he is “Cutters or Nothing” type of bowler.

I never said he has won us games you on the other hand have claimed that he is the reason we lost, which actual facts show is a lie.

He lost the games against CSK when he couldnt even delivered one single yorker to one leg Jadhav. Every one knew Jadhav isnt gonna take singles and trying to hit over short fine leg, but instead of bowling yorkers, he bowled leg side filth and made it easy for Jadhav to score runs.

So mccleneghan who actually started the whole mess isn't at fault for it but fizz is? He was poor against CSK but so was mccleneghan and so was bumrah.

He goes for runs 1 game where all pacers are equally bad he is at fault, he is brilliant for next 2 it doesn't count, mccleneghan has 2 good overs though he is suddenly great. Yet you say it isn't hate.

Bumrah and McCleneghan were bowling at rampging Bravo, Fizz was bowling at guy who was injured and was struggling to time the bowl. You see there is huge difference between that.

Billy Stanlake is ruled out of the IPL with finger injury. SRH should sign Jhye Richardson. He will be a like for like replacement. He has good pace.
Any updates on the participation of Dushmantha Chameera (RR) & Lungi Ngidi (CSK) ?

Gautam Gambhir steps down as Delhi Daredevils captain amid dismal season

NEW DELHI: Gautam Gambhir has stepped down as captain of Delhi Daredevils with immediate effect, six matches into another disappointing IPL season for the GMR-owned franchise.
Shreyas Iyer has been named skipper of the struggling Daredevils who - coming off the 2017 IPL season in which they finished sixth on the points table with six wins from 14 games - again face a very tough road ahead to qualify for the play-offs. They currently languish at the bottom of the IPL 11 leaderboard with one win from six matches.

Speaking during a press conference on Wednesday at the Feroz Shah Kotla, Gambhir said: "It was my decision. I haven't contributed enough to the team. I had to take the responsibility being the leader of the ship. I feel it was the right time."
"May be I was too desperate to turn things around and that can backfire. It could be the reason. I just couldn't handle the pressure and when you don't do that, you have to own that up as a leader," Gambhir added.

The press briefing was also attended by franchise CEO Hemant Dua and coach Ricky Ponting.
"I want to thank the management and my coaches for appointing me as the captain of the team. It is a great honour for me," Iyer said after being appointed as the captain of DD.

Gambhir, who led Kolkata Knight Riders to two IPL titles, returned to his first franchise as captain for the current season but the results have not been what the owners would have desired. The 36-year-old has so far managed 85 runs in five innings, of which 55 came in Daredevils' first game. Since then, his scores are 8, 3 and 4. His season strike-rate of 96.59 is higher than only Colin Munro (66), Daniel Christian (79.16) and Vijay Shankar (90).

Gambhir is the IPL's fourth-highest run-getter with 4217 from 152 innings and is credited with turning around KKR's fortunes with his innovative captaincy, crucial batting and selection of certain uncapped Indian and experienced overseas players, but whether he makes the Daredevils' playing XI now that he is not captain remains to be seen.
Gambhir's standing down from the captaincy comes a day after Daredevils CEO Hemant Dua tweeted a series of statements to the franchise's fans, one of which was that "bold decisions are around the corner".

Dua's final tweet on Thursday mentioned Gambhir, in which he said: "For all those crying foul about Gambhir let me be clear, he is the finest man, I have met who is passionate about cricket, works hard and is super committed for success of Delhi Daredevils ... his team is the city we all love".
Daredevils, who roped in Gambhir as captain for IPL 2018 amid a host of big-ticket purchases at January's player auction, were dented before their campaign began, with news that strike bowler Kagiso Rabada would not play this season owing to an injury, and with most of the big overseas signings not delivering the expected results, they have lurched from one defeat to another.

The results have been disappointing, overall. After that 91 not out, Roy managed six runs in two innings. Munro appeared a steal deal at the auction when, ranked No 1 in T20Is, he was purchased for Rs 1.9 crore from a base price of 75 lakh, but he has so far managed four runs in two matches. Maxwell has 93 runs in five matches with a best of 47; Christian has scored 19 runs and taken four wickets in three matches; Morris has three wickets and 46 runs in as many games; Mishra has conceded 79 runs in eight overs without taking a wicket; Nadeem has taken three wickets in two matches while conceding runs at 10.50 an over; Shami has en economy rate of 10.40 and three wickets to show for in four appearances.

Their latest defeat came on Monday in their first home game at the Kotla, where they did well to restrict KXIP to 143/8 with IPL debutant Liam Plunkett - the replacement for Morris - taking 3/17 in four overs, but then messed up another chase by limping to 139/8.
Last week, writing in his column for TOI, Gambhir had appealed to Daredevils' supporters to keep faith in the struggling team. His response had come following a backlash of vitriol on social media, to which Gambhir had written: "In the times when everything is judged on "trolls", "hits", "followers" or "likes", it seems my team has committed some sort of crime. If we don't react in a certain way it doesn't mean we aren't hurt. We are all concerned that we conceded almost 200 runs in two consecutive games. We won against Mumbai Indians but even that night I went to bed worried. Yes, we should have been more competitive against Kolkata Knight Riders. But if you read what your smart phone has to say it would seem that we have given them a walkover!"

https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com...n-amid-dismal-season/articleshow/63910493.cms

You might not like Gambhir for his non-cricketing views, but you can never accuse him of doublespeak or hypocrisy. One of the most respect-worthy cricketers to have played for India.

Ponting on Gambhir's decision:

"Having been in the same situation many years ago, [I know it is] tough decision to make... to put their hand up and say his performance has not been good enough. I would like to congratulate him for having put the team ahead of himself"

Gautam Gambhir To Forego 2.8 Crore Salary, To Play The Rest Of Season For Free

Gautam Gambhir, who on Wednesday relinquished captaincy of Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Daredevils, has decided to play the rest of the season for free. He stepped down after Delhi's poor performance in the current season, losing five matches out of six played so far. Gambhir, who had returned to Delhi after spending seven years with Kolkata Knight Riders, has scored just 85 runs in the five matches with an average of 17. Delhi, who are languishing at the bottom of the points table, will be led by batsman Shreyas Iyer with immediate effect.

"Gautam has decided that he won't take any salary from the franchise for the season. He will play remaining part of IPL for the Delhi Daredevils for free," PTI reported, quoting a source privy to the development.

"Gautam is someone who puts pride above everything else. He has been a proud performer. He doesn't want to take any money and it's a very personal call. In fact, he wanted to quit just after the KXIP game," the source added.

While he is still available for the season as a player, he will take a call on his future only after the IPL gets over.

"I don't know, it's too early for me to decide on that. Let me sit down and decide. I have to think where my game goes and I go as an individual," Gambhir said during a media interaction.

Gautam Gambhir led KKR to two victorious campaigns in 2012 and 2014. However, the franchise released him ahead of this year's auction and didn't bid for him either.

Gautam Gambhir was KKR's leading run-getter with 3345 runs in 122 matches.

Have alot respect for this guy. He is not my fav cricketer but what ever he has achieved in his carrier i guess very few can do it.

Haha loser.

If he had been a true team man, he could have dropped himself from playing.

He's luring the owner here, and ready to gamble with the team's performance.

When did money became a concern for IPL owners?

Winning is important for any team, not saving money(And he's ready to lose games for his team).

He's thinking in long term. He knows he'll get dropped sooner from playing 11. And if it happens so, then probably he won't be picked next year by any team.

Here he's trying to lure the owner, by saying he's really to play for free, which means he may play all remaining games, and in the process if he gets going in 2 or 3 matches, then he would be picked again next year.

Lol at your blind support.

He's a LOSER.

Trying to put team in a losing position for his personal benefit

Regarding ur question about any player playing for free.. Why would/ should any player play for free. They are not doing charity here. It's there profession and their way of making a living.

It's not management decision. If he say he is not in proper touch and won't play, no management would force him

Lol

First it's not blind hate, but rather about professionalism.

I worked in a call center earlier in my career, but never did I do false promise.

My TL used to say if you do like this, it will affect us.

But I used to say, I can leave this job if u want but can't hurt my customers.

Here he's cheating his team just for his own benefit.

That's why he's a loser.

Moreover, it's just that he's playing safe game. Oh why wouldn't he be dropped, he's not come from some dreamland.

He's playing first season with DD, obviously the management wouldn't be that close with him to play him whole season.

Again you are open to have ur opinion, I have mine.

Lol

man you seem to carry some grudge .

First it's not blind hate, but rather about professionalism.

I worked in a call center earlier in my career, but never did I do false promise.

Oh legends should be played based on their PAST performance . Sorry, I didn't know that.

And sorry mate I have answered you many times, and u are asking same question, over and over again. I think I don't have much time to keep typing, as I post occasionally.

Anyways, as I said, have ur opinion. I gave what I thought.

Massive respect for GG. Always liked him as a player . Be interested to see how Iyer does.

So ABD also brings his family along for vacation just like PSL players. And Indians here were calling PSL a family picnic.

I miss Dharamshala & Ranchi as IPL venues this season. Any idea why there are no matches there this season ?

Kings XI Punjab might be a happy lot sitting on the third spot of the IPL 2018 table and almost on the brink of a play-off spot, but not all is well inside the camp. (IPL 2018 full coverage)

Reports have emerged suggesting that there has been a fall-out between co-owner Preity Zinta and mentor Virender Sehwag, following the franchise’s recent loss against Rajasthan Royals.

According to a report of Mumbai Mirror, Sehwag could even part ways with the franchise at the end of the season owing to the fall-out.

It further claimed that after the side failed to chase Royals’ meagre target of 159 in the last game, the Bollywood actress had approached Sehwag even before the players made their way back to the team dug-out.

Kings XI Punjab are one of the most underperforming sides in the history of the Indian Premier League and are yet to win the cash-rich league.

“Against Rajasthan Royals, skipper Ravichandran Ashwin was sent in at number three, ahead of more accomplished batsmen such as Karun Nair and Manoj Tiwari. The move backfired as Ashwin fell for a duck, and Preity launched into Sehwag for the decision,” Mirror quoted a source as saying.

“However, when Preity continued to blame him, saying ‘unnecessary’ tinkering with the playing XI had led to a spate of defeats, Sehwag tried to reason with her,” the report added.

Kings XI Punjab have 12 points in their kitty from 10 games so far and two wins in their last four games should see them sail through to the last-four stage.

However, Kings XI Punjab have denied the allegations. “This is in response to the media articles that have been published in the last couple of days on the supposed disagreement which was reported after Kings XI’s last game. The stories have led to a lot of speculation and we at Kings XI Punjab would like to clearly state that as part of our management process, (as well as other franchisees) we review our performance on and off the field after each game through both, formal and informal discussions,” the team said in a statement.

“This is part of our standard operations review process which helps us to analyse our results and allow us to focus on the improvement required after each game, both on and off the field so that we can continue to improve in all aspects. The culture in Kings XI is one that is open and non-hierarchical, and is one which encourages open and frank debate by one and all across all levels with the common goal of continuous improvement.”
