While we are not the best, we aren’t an average team either.

On topic - I thought BCCI was staying afloat due to ICC hand-outs. Am I missing something?

BCCI aren't against paying to Domestic players, its the CoA buffons who are maine cause of the problem. Im sure you knew that but your hate for BCCI blinds your judgement. I personally dislike BCCI as well but here they are at no fault.

Won almost all the series in past few months that includes series win in Aus, SA and at home against Eng and NZ.

So, how exactly have India performed poorly?

I think Dhoni is the weak link. Pandya is more miss than hit. Manish Pandey is an inconsistent Babar Azam.
Top 3 in batting and very good bowling attack is what's keeping India an above average T20 team

Bro ...problem is due to ego clash of COA and BCCI management. Both parties are using domestic payment as political pawn!

Case of child being ignored while parents fight with each other.

Hope they don't get involved in spoiling IPL brand.

It’s difficult to build a consistent winning T20 team due to nature of game, a one off good performance can result in a win for opposition.. However a good T20 team should win 70% if it’s matches and even in losses give a good fight barring few matches where things don’t work out..

RCB's problem starts with leadership. Kholee doesn't give it respect it deserves. He is clearly low on energy in IPL compared to India games.
 
RCB has always had mediocre pacers (except Starc who appeared once in a while). Need good t20 pace bowlers to be competitive.

ABDV is not an overseas player? There can be only 4 overseas player I think or did that increased to 5?

IMO, RCB should start with

My Bad. You are right. 4 internationals only. Is Vohra good? havent seen many past IPL games.

They have some indian medium pacers in the dugout to replace southee.. but I dont know if they are good. Is Vohra better than Patel?

Vohra is still in his shot selection immaturity phase. Why not open with kholi and qdk? And play an Indian middle order batsman at 6.

Nobody is really new anymore due to televised domestics and IPL but i was really impressed with Karnataka middle order. Particularly their spinning all-rounders.

S Gopal will get more opportunities in IPL now that he is no longer with star team like Mumbai Indians. Don't remember who picked up Goutham.

All the Pacers were down on pace dispite playing at high altitudes and cool place. Don't know why. Khaleel and Umesh were bowling at max 140 despite both having next gear.

Young Bhui played a super inning.

It was very boring. Teams were not balanced and there was distinct lack of good wristspiners in India teams.

Young Shaw and Shubhnam were not lacking any skills but they have not yet mastered inning building vs experienced bowling.

Both gopal and gowtham are In Rajasthan royals squad.both will get lots of chances this year due to being in underdog team.

Good for them(and India).

iirc Rajasthan has really small squad so they are sure to get many games. Mumbai and Wankhede was really unsuitable for Gopal.
 
OMG...thats huuuge money..believe most of the franchises were sold for an avg price of 300 crores..now they are getting 250crore alone from central revenue...this is terrific ROI!!!!
 
Many people are getting it wrong. At IPL, the history, stats doesn't matter. And this was a major auction, which happens after 3-4 years, so all teams are starting from zero and a fresh start for everybody.
 
As IPL date nears, Star India has a tough ad chase in hand

MUMBAI: With less than a month to go for the 11th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), officials at Star India are seeking to sign on as many advertisers as possible to help meet the daunting Rs 2,000-crore revenue target for the biggest global event in cricket.

Star officials are making confident claims of exceeding the target and of strong response from advertisers. However, there are no concrete financial details yet to ascertain how close the broadcaster is to touching the revenue target.

“We have a total of 34 clients signed on, out of which there are some high-value deals with Vivo, Coca Cola, Asian PaintsBSE 0.28 %, CeatBSE 0.12 % Tyres, and MakeMyTrip,” Anil Jayaraj, EVP and head of ad sales for Star Sports, told ET.

Some of the new advertisers include Reliance Jio, Domino’s, Ford, Haier, Voltas, Luminous, Ceat Tyres, AMFI, Asian Paints, Berger PaintsBSE -0.28 %, Blue Star, Crompton, Dollar, PidiliteBSE 1.43 %, Sleep Well, Vanessa and Vimal Pan Masala.

Earlier, Star had announced Amul, Colgate, Coca-Cola, Dream 11, Elica, Make My Trip, Parle Agro, Parle Products, Vu TV, Kent, and Polycab as advertisers for the cricket league.

India has, over the past two decades, emerged as the nerve-centre of modern cricket and the tournament modelled after the English Premier League is the primary vehicle for an expanding list of brands reaching out to an increasingly affluent set of customers. However, soaring advertisement rates have the potential to dim the IPL’s appeal as a credible and sustainable brand-building property, with broadcasters charging higher for their inventory to recoup initial investments in the telecast-rights auctions.

ET had reported on February 20 that advertisers are finding the ad rates too high and many usual names are missing from the list so far. Star’s asking price for advertisements is about Rs 10 lakh (per 10 seconds) a slot.

Despite confident claims by Star India officials, sources from within Star India and the media buying fraternity have confirmed that so far only about Rs 800 crore worth of advertising inventory has been sold or booked.

“It (ad sales) has not gone the way we had hoped,” said a highly placed source in Star India. “Now the task is Herculean as adding another Rs. 1,100-1,200 crore means a run rate exceeding Rs 40 crore per day.”

Media buyers say that advertisers are not willing to pay unreasonable premium.

“IPL is one of the strongest platforms and everyone wants to advertise on IPL, but I don’t think in today’s market, any client is ready to pay a significant premium over last year’s rates. I believe it will be a 10-15% increase over the last season,” said Ashish Bhasin, chairman and CEO, South Asia at Dentsu Aegis Network.

Some of the usual names missing from the list include Vodafone, Amazon, Maruti Suzuki, Airtel and PepsiCo.

On its part, Star is not yet disclosing the names of co-presenting or associate sponsors. It is also not disclosing which advertisers have taken spots on TV or on the digital medium alone.

“The sale is going pretty well and I think we will exceed our targets,” Jayaraj said. “What we are offering to the advertisers is a significantly higher value that IPL will deliver for their brands.”

Star India had put a bid of Rs 16,437.5 crore to buy the global media rights of IPL for 5 years starting the 2018 edition. To recoup its investments, Star has come out with an exhaustive telecast plan encompassing 6 languages, 12 channels and live steaming on digital platform Hotstar.

I don't consider him India material too but you don't want him in IPL too. He is decent enough for that at least.

Lost 2 finals till now,...no complaints as long as we get 2 months of good cricket from our team. You win some and lose some ...!

There is first time for everything... Like Kohli won SA series LOI, which no other could do earlier (weak SA team, SA resting for AUS series etc.. blah blah aside, :kohli2 wonlLOI series in SA) !

Not much really. It's a relatively new side and starting from scratch would be a huge task to Smith and co.
But you never know with Rajasthan. They wrote us off even before the tournament began in the inaugural season and the rest is history :warne

I am from Chennai but never supported CSK. Almost all my friends are CSK fans. I have been supporting MI for Sachin. This year i will root for both MI and KKR.

I am a big Sachin fan. grew up watching his batting in 90s. So I could not go against him when this whole IPL started. Moreover I was never a big fan of Dhoni. Now I hate him so much. As long as Dhoni is in CSK, I will not root for that team. It will change once he is out though.

this year I will support KKR for Karthik, particularly after that innings and after reading those articles about his struggle while he was away from India team. I had never liked him in the eleven at all all these years though.

Me too SRT fan... but in IPL my city team RCB from year 1.

Doesn't matter RCB wins or loses this time, expecting to see Kohli-AB play together and destroy attacks again. Party time ... IPL is coming soon #Cheers

:) he cant confidently say that they will win with all the batting talent in the team. IMO Kohli is one of the dumb captains I have ever seen. He is super smart while batting though.
 
Looking forward to the tournament. Have followed the IPL for all seasons apart from the first one. Hoping my team CSK win but hoping for some good cricket along the way.

Yea....had expectation when RCB reached final first time in SA. Second time I watched final first half in 1522 pub with full party and dance with friends. Left the pub by the time I reach home ..RCB lost. But had awesome time with friends that's how I'm seeing RCB matches ... Reason to get together with friends and have fun. #RCB

But when watching Team India, difficult to digest defeats ...:19:

Ok noted, arch rivals of RCB are CSk due to local differences between KA and TN states ..local derby !

Jos Butler and Ben Stokes along with Steve Smith and Ben Laughlin/Jofra Archer/D'Arcy Short are fine T20 players and should be able to do a good job for Rajasthan if everything goes fine.

Although the quality of Indian players doesn't look too great on the paper and apart from Ajinkya Rahane, not a single experienced Indian player in the side (If you discount hacks like Binny and Unadkat)
 
The only way Bangalore can defeat Chennai is through a tribunal if you know what I mean ;)

With the track record of RCB, have to lower our expectations obviously.

Still RCB matches are must watch for gun players Kohli and AB for sure.
