The Indian Premier League (IPL) fixture between KKR and RCB has been rescheduled after some players of the KKR camp reportedly went in isolation due to COVID-19 scare.

"I have received a message from the BCCI CEO and the venue in-charge that today's match is suspended and a new date will be announced later in the day," Gujarat Cricket Association secretary Anil Patel told Sportstar.

It was a matter of time. Most like, the bubble is breached. Watch out for the rats jumping the sinking ship

BCCI official (in ANI) confirmed Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier tested positive for COVID-19.

Reports that there was no breach of bubble but the player had to go to hospital to get some medical checks done and may have picked up the infection there. Other tests, not covid tests. More awaited.

From what I know there was no breach of bubble but the player had to go to hospital to get some medical checks done and may have picked up the infection there. Other tests, not covid tests. More awaited.

Players going to a hospital is breach of the bubble bro, it was bound to happen

Beginning of the end.

It was a question of when, not if.

Tonight's #KKRvsRCB match set to be postponed/rescheduled, as a result!

Wishing the players a speedy recovery & hope the BCCI would take the right decisions!

Varun Chakravarthy left Bio-Bubble for shoulders scan, from there he might've picked the virus. Others been tested few times I guess and all turned negative leaving those two.

That is precisely what a bubble breach is!

This was bound to happen and this is the reason why, at the very least, BCCI could have avoided cities that have massive covid cases and instead preferred safer venues like Hyderabad, Dharamshala etc, they were adamant about going ahead with same venues no matter how grave the situation is in that city ... Sheer Stupidity from BCCI.

Yes, thats a bubble breach and now we can expect quarantine for all the KKR team and their close contacts.
Could cause postponement of entire IPL 2021 if more cases are discovered.

Both left the bubble for tests. No one else has been tested positive.

I don't know, but if they had left the bubble they should have been quarantined.

Rest of the team has returned negative results. But they will be tested more before being allowed to play.

When did he go for scan, Did he played after that, Did KKR team mingle with other team. All this need to be addressed.

Precisely.

But don’t they do genomic testing? They should be able to identify whether this came from any specific patient or staff member at the hospital.

This is why the World Test Championship Final is being played at Southampton - the players and cooks and cleaners have to live at the ground for 2 weeks.

It was bound to happen one day. May be initial stage of remaining IPL getting cancelled.

Good thing is they didn't hide this from world or tried to cover up.

It seems downright incompetence to allow Chakravarthy to leave the bubble, especially if he was going to a hospital, and then not force him to adhere to the necessary quarantine period once he returned.

KKR last played against DC on 29th just 4 days back.
Varun played that match.

Now this is getting bigger, many need to be test.

Have you got a source on Warrier leaving the bubbles for tests? All the reliable sources only seem to indicate Chakravarthy leaving.

You claimed this last year before England's home test series and I pointed out that it was false, not sure why you're repeating it now.

Too early to say a postponement is on, I think BCCI will do anything to close it on time.

Two Indian Premier League players have tested positive to COVID-19, forcing the postponement of Monday night's match (midnight AEST) between the Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Kolkata pair Varun Chakaravarthy and Sandeep Warrier have both returned positive tests but the rest of the KKR contingent, including Australians Pat Cummins and Ben Cutting, have tested negative.

It's understood one of the infected players recently went to hospital after suffering a stomach complaint, which is believed to be the likely time of infection.

The player isolated upon his return to the IPL bubble and returned a negative test but, 12 hours later, he and his teammate both returned a positive test.

The two infected players are currently isolating from the rest of the KKR team.

"Varun Chakaravarthy and Sandeep Warrier were found to be positive in the third round of testing in the last four days. All other team members have tested negative for COVID -19," an IPL statement read.

"Both the players have isolated themselves from the rest of the squad. The Medical Team is in continuous touch with the duo and are monitoring their health. Meanwhile, the Kolkata Knight Riders have now moved towards a daily testing routine to identify any other possible cases and treat them at the earliest.

"The Medical Team is also determining the close and casual contacts of the two positive cases during the 48 hours prior to collection of the sample that returned the positive test results.

"The BCCI and the Kolkata Knight Riders prioritise the health and safety of everyone involved and all measures are being taken in that endeavour."

The news comes just a day after India recorded its highly daily death toll since the start of the pandemic, with almost 3,700 people dying in 24 hours.

The IPL is being played in a bio-secure bubble and, until now, had not been breached by the virus that has devastated that country.

IPL RESCHEDULES KKR-RCB MATCH SLATED FOR MAY 3, 2021 AFTER 2 KKR PLAYERS TEST POSITIVE

It seems downright incompetence to allow Chakravarthy to leave the bubble, especially if he was going to a hospital, and then not force him to adhere to the necessary quarantine period once he returned.

It was an eventuality. A slip up was going to happen anyways and the margin for error so less considering how rampant COVID is in India. Irresponsible stuff.

Amateur stuff.

A player goes to hospital and he's allowed to join the squad without being quarantined.

Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) were told that the game will be rescheduled. A new date for what was due to be Game 30 of the season is yet to be announced though, the GCA members have been told.

However, this development could lead to more re-jigging of the schedule. With KKR set to play another game on May 8 (vs Delhi Capitals in Ahemdabad), it is likely that this game too will be rescheduled.

Reports say,

"Varun Chakaravarthy and Sandeep Warrier were found to be positive in the third round of testing in the last four days. All other team members have tested negative for COVID -19. Both the players have isolated themselves from the rest of the squad. The Medical Team is in continuous touch with the duo and are monitoring their health. Meanwhile, the Kolkata Knight Riders have now moved towards a daily testing routine to identify any other possible cases and treat them at the earliest.," the official IPL release stated.

Of the two, Warrier has not yet made the playing XI in any of the seven matches KKR have played.

KKR last played on April 29 against Delhi Capitals in Ahmedabad and the development is bound to trigger some anxiety in the league, which had been going along smoothly so far.

"Now, the DC players will also have to be tested and every member of the team contingents that came in contact with Chakravarthy and Warrier will also be contact traced through the app watch that has been given to everyone," a BCCI source was quoted as saying by PTI.

"The other members of KKR contingent have tested negative but since the second RTPCR report of these two cannot be out before evening, the match couldn't have gone ahead," he added.

PTI further reported that KKR's pace spearhead Pat Cummins revealed the latest development to all the Australian players in the IPL after Chakaravarthy, while undergoing some shoulder scans for a niggle, tested positive for the virus.

He has appeared in all KKR matches and been one of their most successful players with seven wickets so far.

IPL had dealt with positive cases before the tournament started, including some high-profile names like Axar Patel and Devdutt Padikkal.

However, this is the first instance of positive cases in the middle of the tournament.

Just days before this, three Australian players had pulled out of the league, citing COVID-19 concerns amid a devastating second wave of the global pandemic that has overwhelmed the medical infrastructure of the country.

I think the only way the tournament will be postponed is if 2/3 teams are affected.

Have you got a source on Warrier leaving the bubbles for tests? All the reliable sources only seem to indicate Chakravarthy leaving.

Afaik Warrier too had gone for scans.

Apparently there was a green channel that was created for them to leave the bubble and come back.

Now the entire KKR team will be tested daily for next six days.

Time to reschedule the IPL or abandon this and give Delhi Capitals, the top ranked team as of today the IPL winners title.

For the sake of world cricket, the tournament needs to be abandoned if it is being called off!

Any more dragging of this into the international calendar could be highly detrimental

So what happens if a player gets seriously injured whilst playing?
Breaks a finger or an arm or leg or gets hit on the head?

Why was this not thought of two weeks ago?

Ideally shouldn't matter. Tournament should be cancelled

All current sources only indicate Chakravarthy going for scans which seems to suggest the most likely route for Warrier also getting infected was through Chakravarthy being allowed back into the bubble without the same original quarantine process players went through to initially enter the bubble.

Well from the sentiment of selective locals, it should carry on regardless. Positive cases should not be a deterrent, players can play in oxygen masks presumably.

It is quite ridiculous it's even got to this stage. Aussie players unable to go home anytime soon either!

This has to be heading towards a cancellation of the tournament surely.

There has certainly been a bubble breach in Delhi with the news of the groundstaff and 3 members of the CSK party testing positive. The tournament has to be cancelled now.

Such an unfortunate way for the bubble to be breached. Dont know if they can carry on now

According to reports - CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan, Bowling Coach Balaji and Bus Cleaner has been tested positive for COVID-19.

That's got to be it.

Why not just host it in NZ and Aus, you could of had crowds for matches.

I know many of us have strong feelings about the ethics of the IPL being played now, but can I please ask everyone to be considerate about the dead and dying and to wish the infected IPL participants a full and speedy recovery?

Should have cancelled/postponed it when 350,000 people were testing positive daily and bodies were being cremated on the streets.

Now the panic sets in.

Don't wanna make it an Indo-Pak thing, but had this been the PSL; in fact, when it was the PSL, PCB were getting ripped.

And now there are reports that 5 Delhi and Districts Cricket Association ground staff have tested positive for Covid-19

Considering the sufferings of my countrymen over the last one month, this news is nothing so disastrous. Heaven's won't fall down if the IPL gets cancelled.

It was madness to think that we could go another month without any incidents considering the gravity of the situation in the rest of the country. I hope the BCCI don't try and drag this out in order to supposedly save face. Just postpone it and live to fight another day.

They are not postponing. Too many people will lose face, not least many on here.

I think IPL will get cancelled now.

I worry for the players though, hopefully there aren't any serious medical issues.

Based upon what I have read its incompetence, no two ways about it. They even had a case study of PSL earlier this year and still made ammeter mistakes.

Other guys like Chennai’s bowling coach, CEO, Delhi’s ground staff have suddenly appeared positive around the same time as well. Is it potentially due to the same breach or there are potential other breaches? As looking at the schedule it looks like Kolkata last played Chennai 10 days ago.

It was mind boggling how in the midst of the whole country burning the IPL fat cats thought they could continue to play and pretend they ll be fine and secure in a bubble

Its high time to postpone the tournament rather continue putting more people at risk for the sake of a few quid

The players who havent gone home yet should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves too

What are billions of Indians going to do with the 4 hours today. Usually we are told they only stay inside for ipl?

You guys so realise they are probably lying to us and hiding stuff. I bet there were many more positive cases.

A COVID-19 outbreak left the Indian Premier League on tenterhooks as Kolkata Knight Riders' Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier tested positive for the dreaded virus, forcing postponement of the team's game against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Ahmedabad this evening. The match will be rescheduled some time later during the tournament, which will conclude on May 30. Apart from this, it also came to light that Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan, bowling coach L Balaji and a lower rung staff member tested positive on Sunday but returned negative reports on Monday.

A top BCCI source declared theirs as a case of "false positives".

The news of two Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) players testing positive for COVID-19 left the entire cricket fraternity in shock on Monday (May 3). The match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Monday had to be postponed after Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier returned positive. However, the silver lining is that the rest of the KKR squad has tested negative.

Nonetheless, the two positive tests in the KKR squad have left several overseas players muddled as their apprehensions about continuing in the tournament have increased. Several Australian players and commentators involved in the IPL are said to be contemplating moving out of the bubble after the recent developments.

Australian pacer Pat Cummins, who is part of the KKR squad and is staying in the same bubble as Chakravarthy and Warrier, is, however, 'relaxed' about the situation and is doing fine. As per his manager, Neil Maxwell, Cummins, and other KKR players feel quite safe and commend the way things have been handled.

“Pat is perfectly fine. Everyone else is fine. Two guys have it. There is no issue. They still feel quite safe and commend the way it has been handled. They are pretty relaxed about it. There are no alarm bells around it to be frank,” Maxwell was quoted as saying by The Australian.

Cummins had recently said cancelling IPL was not a solution when asked if the tournament should be called amid the worsening COVID-19 situation in India. The country has been reporting more than 3 lakh new cases on a daily basis while thousands are losing their lives due to the deadly virus.

"I don't think ending the IPL is the answer. We are doing everything we can to make sure we don't take any resources out of the front line. I don't think so (it's the solution)," Cummins had said.

He was the first overseas player involved in the IPL to come forward and make a donation to boost India's fight against COVID-19. He had made a contribution of USD 50,000 towards the PM CARES Fund and had also urged others to come forward and help.

Lolol

You want Indian domestic tournament to have 6am starts?

If you’d said UAE/ Dubai then it would’ve made sense

And now there are reports that 5 Delhi and Districts Cricket Association ground staff have tested positive for Covid-19

I was always wondering how would you keep a check on the local blue collar non playing staff

Whinger. Any dunce could have predicted 2 weeks before the eventual ban that flights from india would be banned

Aussies should be left in India . It’s just sheer greed by them. They ate begging to come home now.

We know deep down all the Aussies want to leave India and they will go home in an instance if given the opportunity.
You have to give credit to the 3 Aussies who chipped a few weeks ago, they could smell the coffee and didn’t care about monetary gain they would have missed out on.

The problem for the remaining Australian players and staff is that their government has now abandoned them, they have firmly shut down the door at least for the new few weeks but could be months.

But it’s their fault entirely, they took a gamble and it didn’t pay off.

IPL lasting this long is a miracle. I think its time to wind it down.

I am baffled at BCCIs total lack of flexibility

It is one thing not wanting to postpone it or move it out of India.

But they are totally unwilling to even move within the country and change the scheduling around. There was NO reason to have the circus come to the epicenter of the world ie Delhi. There are local cleaners, bus boys etc who are bound to have had some contact outside the bubble. You can’t 100% monitor everyone

Steve Smith receive very less compared to what other earns. But he is still playing compared to the 2 who went(who were surprisingly earning more than Smith esp Richardson)

Just today's match is postponed. IPL will carry on as scheduled with final on 30th May. Sorry guys...it wont be cancelled.

No bubble can sustain in Delhi for now. Situation is pretty grim.

YOu don't have to find the COVID. IT will find you. The only way you can postpone it from finding you is by staying at home. This variant is a serious variant. They better cancel the whole IPL. But greed has no limits.
