IPL 2021 - RCB (160/8) beat MI (159/9) by 2 wickets

Hardly see anything of Maxwell fielding . Not sure where he is. Thought he would be at long off and long at this stage.

Now Kieron Pollard is gone.

Credit to Kohli for managing the bowlers in the last part of the innings. And credit to the bowlers. This is a strong batting line up they have contained.

Thought MI would have done better than this with their perceived batting depth/strength.

RCB have this within controllable limits - got to turn up with the bat.

Pollard and Pandya vs Jamieson and Siraj in death overs..

Oh dear! It is gonna be proper carnage :vk

Not sure, Harshal having a good day..

One of the weakest bowling line ups stops one of the strongest batting line ups .

But we are told the IPL is not the best league in the world. :ssmith

Brilliant performance from Harshal Patel. Mumbai are slow starters, expect them to be back at their best.

Harshal Patel in first over - 0/15
Harshal Patel in next three overs - 5/12

He bowed the 16th, 18th & 20th over.

I thought RCB would want a more aggressive partner for Kohli. But looks like they will rely on AB,Maxwell, and Christian to finish.

One of Paddikal or Rajat Patidar should open with him

Paddikal has covid. I think he will play the next game. Patidar will probably come in next. He was down to open.

I think RCB are grooming Washi for a big role in the future so they are giving him a lot of exposure. He will definitely be retained next year by RCB for the mega auction.

Sundar poor poor inning comes to end .he forget his role was to score quick runs

RCB picked team based on their internal practice match.

Rajat Patidar - 104(49)
Shahbaz Ahmed - 95(48)
Maxwell - 44(31)
Christian - 3/38
KS Bharat - 47(26)

Harshal Patel creates history, becomes first bowler to claim a 5-fer against Mumbai Indians in IPL history

The Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians (MI) is the most successful IPL franchise with five titles. They came into the IPL 2021 season opener with a lot of confidence on their side, facing Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Friday evening (April 9).

While MI have often been the side to wreak havoc on the opposition line-up with consistent wickets and dominate any side's bowling department with ease, the five-time winners weren't able to start off nicely in IPL 14's opening fixture after being asked to bat first by Kohli & Co. While RCB have the likes of Mohammed Siraj, Kyle Jamieson, Dan Christian, Yuzvendra Chahal, etc. MI were stunned by all-rounder Harshal Patel who returned with 5 for 26 to restrict them for 159/9.

MI were in a comfortable position at 105-2 but could only manage 24 runs in the last four overs as Harshal's deadly bowling pushed them on the back foot. Harshal accounted for the wickets of Ishan Kishan, Hardik, Krunal Pandya, Kieron Pollard and Marco Jansen to become only the third RCB bowler to attain a five-fer in IPL. In addition, he became the first-ever bowler to take a five-wicket haul versus the defending champions in IPL history.

After his spell, Harshal -- who used to represent the Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2020 -- told the broadcasters, "Ball started tailing a bit when I came into bowl the 16th over, that was my cue. And I executed brilliantly. You can't look at the opposition all the time. All you need to focus on at the top of your mark is your execution and planning and that's what I did. It was very clear from the beginning I was going to bowl two overs at the death but today I bowled three. Feels great. This is my first five-wicket haul in all the T20s I've played. Coming against MI it feels special. It's a decent batting surface. Just the dimensions allow you to take pace off. Also the bounce isn't as good as it usually is. It's probably keeping low. But I don't think it's a two paced wicket"

RCB will be eager to chase down the modest total and get off to a winning start in IPL 14 edition. Their last face-off versus MI at the venue saw them lose the Champions League (CLT20) 2011 final.

RCB like the idea of AB coming after 10 overs. Maxwell batting at 4 means they still have someone who can attack in the middle overs.

Glenn Maxwell's first six in IPL in 171 balls across 19 innings - his last six was off Mitchell Johnson in Delhi on 27 April 2018, 1079 days ago.

Maxwell is as talented as Buttler. But he has not found consistency in his career. Such a shame.

Maxwell ahead of ABD is good move.
ABD struggling against spin in middle and too good against pace in death overs.

Maxwell does well enough for Aussies. He just underperformances in IPL.

He has done well under Langer but has been inconsistent even for Australia. In the IPL barring 1 season he has been consistently crap. Hope things change for him this year.
