Pakistani man convicted of plotting to kill Trump over death of Iranian commander

A Pakistani man has been convicted of planning to kill Donald Trump and other prominent US politicians two years ago at the behest of Iran.

Asif Merchant was accused of trying to recruit people in the US in a plan targeting Trump and others in retaliation for the killing of Iranian military commander Qassem Suleimani in 2020, during Trump’s first term as president.

Targets in the 2024 plot, federal prosecutors said, also included the then president Joe Biden and Nikki Haley, the former ambassador to the UN who ran against Trump that year for the Republican presidential nomination.

Merchant was convicted of “murder for hire and attempting to commit an act of terrorism transcending national boundaries,” directed by the Iranian authorities, the US department of justice said in a statement.

The trial in New York City started last week, days before Trump ordered an assault on Iran, carried out with Israel, that has expanded into the region’s biggest war in years.

Merchant admitted to joining the plot orchestrated by Iran’s elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) but testified he did so unwillingly in order to protect his family in Tehran.

Merchant said he was never ordered to kill a specific person but that his Iranian handler named three people in the course of conversations in the Iranian capital.

Law enforcement thwarted the plan before any attack occurred. A person Merchant contacted in April 2024 to help with the plot reported his activities and became a confidential informant, the DOJ said. Merchant was arrested and pleaded not guilty that year.

The IRGC has a central role in Iran, with a combination of military and economic power and an intelligence network. Tehran has denied accusations that it targeted Trump or other US officials.

US and Israeli attacks since Saturday have killed at least 1,332 Iranian civilians and wounded thousands, according to Iran’s UN ambassador. Many top Iranian leaders, including the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, have been killed.

The US military has said six service members were killed in a strike on a facility in Kuwait, while at least 10 Israeli civilians are reported to have been killed.

Bless this man. He failed but he dared to don’t right thing.

Why is it irking you seeing your fellow Indian supporting Iran? If anything it shows some Indians as human unlike the sanghi cult of Zionist bootlickers who are constslty posting their phaadarland colonzier's propaganda here. Iranian brothers are doing a great job at destroying those terrorists, it was supposed to be a weekend stint and it's coming to a week now

I want to see Benjamin's head on a plate but you're too chicken to do that for your brothers.

If you follow the timeline you would understand who benefited the most from this war.

1. Gold and silver prices kept increasing, who was buying and rising prices, the people who knew what’s coming.
2. Capture of Venezuelan oil by US companies.
3. Attack on Iran and oil shock.
4. Venezuelan oil will be sold for, who profits?

Ask yourself these questions and you would understand who benefited the most from this conflict.

Yet, common people on this very forum are fighting amongst themselves based on difference in religion while the elite are laughing at you all’s stupidity.

These idiots forget that there is non- Stop live coverage on many YouTube channels including Al - Jazeera , Assosiate press etc of Israel Skyline ....

Venezuelan Oil is heavy crude and only few refineries can turn it into light usable fuel and American has those refineries. However, they require light fuel to refine the heavy fuel and who is one of the biggest producers of this? You guessed it, it's Iran!

Iran lashed out during the last week at several neighbouring countries in the Gulf region, inflicting significant damage but at what cost?

The rate of fire has slowed, heavy usage of their arsenal whilst taking heavy airstrikes, changing their tactics to focus on less means there is more to use of their depleting arsenal against less targets.

Iranian Ballistic Missiles launches:
Day 1 — 350
Day 2 — 175
Day 3 — 120
Day 4 — 50
Day 5 — 40
Day 6 — 32
Day 7 — 28
Day 8 — 15

They’re running out of missiles and launchers. ( These numbers are very close to the reality)

Trump is doing all this on behalf of US oil company executives ? Or is he doing this to take attention away from Epstein files ? Or is he doing this to counter his low poll numbers ?

How about "All of the above"?

Fog of war is definitely preventing the full picture from coming out. According to an Indian journalist who just returned from Israel, they are hiding significant casualties. Iranian missiles are striking even the bunkers. Iran retaining this capability even after being relentlessly bombed by two of the most powerful militaries shows that the US and Israel may have underestimated Iran quite a bit.

The Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has just broadcast a video message on Iranian state television.

“I deem it necessary to apologise to neighbouring countries that were attacked,” he says.

"We do not intend to invade neighbouring countries,” he says, and calls for regional cooperation to "establish peace and calm".

Pezekshian adds that a leadership decision has been issued to the armed forces: “from now on, do not attack neighbouring countries unless attacked first.”

“Those considering exploiting this moment to attack Iran must not become puppets of imperialism," the president says, adding that supporting Israel or the US is “not a path to honour and freedom.”

Who is this journalist?

I think this will bring sense of security.
There was a feeling many of the attacks weren't planned anyway... especially attacks on countries like Saudi. It was Iranian regional commanders acting independently after the breakdown of the military and IRGC command structure and the decimation of their leadership.

Things are settling down again in Iran. They're trying to dig in for the long haul and use their limited missile and drone inventory wisely without lashing out wildly at everyone.

The Iranian President doesn't have much power even during peacetime.

The IRGC holds the reigns from what I'm reading.

Who knows why is he doing it, bottom line is he and his friends are getting rich while the common fools around the world suffer.

I'm not on twitter, is this a genuine video from today?

Unfortunately I don't trust anything from either side at the moment until multiple sources have verified it.
There is also a narrative war too... There are deliberate fakes that get posted to drown out anything genuine that might be out there.

As an example goto BBC and you will see that their entire coverage is based around damage to everyone but Israel.

Iran thanks India after naval vessel IRIS Lavan docks at Kochi following the IRIS Dena incident in the Indian Ocean

Iran's Ambassador to India, Mohammad Fathali, told ANI, "Following the tragic incident involving the Iranian naval vessel IRIS Dena in the waters of the Indian Ocean, the Islamic Republic of Iran is continuing to follow up on the situation of the crew members and to examine the different aspects of this incident. In this context, another Iranian naval vessel, IRIS Lavan, has docked at the port of Kochi in India to carry out technical and logistical arrangements. I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the Government of India and the local authorities for their cooperation and humanitarian approach in facilitating the docking of this vessel and supporting its crew. The excellent coordination and cooperation of the Indian authorities in these difficult circumstances clearly reflect the long-standing and friendly relations between our two countries."

"We express our appreciation to the government and the people of India for their valuable support and cooperation. We are confident that the historic and constructive relations between Tehran and New Delhi will continue to grow and strengthen in the future."

Its weird how posters are ready to believe anything US says against India, but wont when they say against Iran or Palestine
Only Pakistanis and their establishment sympathizers have such twisted belief.

Classified Intel report warns large-scale war ‘unlikely’ to oust Iran’s regime - The Washington Post

A classified U.S. intelligence report says even a large
U.S. military assault on Iran would likely not topple the Iranian regime.

The report also concludes that Iran’s fragmented opposition is unlikely to take control, meaning U.S. plans to remove the regime and install a new leader would face major obstacles.

Experts say Iran’s ruling system is built to survive crises and resist outside pressure, and there is currently little sign of a mass uprising inside the country.

None of us would be fighting if we didn't have Indian posters supporting the war on Iran.

Explosions in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi despite pledge by Iranian president

There were more explosions in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi late Saturday local time, despite a suggestion earlier in the day from Iran’s president that attacks across the Gulf would cease.

There was a series of loud explosions in Bahrain, according to witnesses. It was not immediately clear whether they were caused by impacts or interceptions.

Iran’s official Fars news agency claimed there were “massive explosions at US bases in Bahrain.”

The National Security Council in the United Arab Emirates posted on X that “Air defense systems are currently responding to a missile threat,” advising people to “remain in a safe location.”

Earlier Saturday Iran’s President, Masoud Pezeshkian, apologized to Arab Gulf nations for the impact of Iranian drone and missile attacks targeting US bases and said Iran would stop striking its neighbors unless it came under attack.

Pezeshkian’s office later issued an “explanation” that his message was clear: “if regional countries do not cooperate in America’s attack on us, we will not attack them.”
