To complete the summer men’s fixture announcements, the three-match World Cup Super League series against Bangladesh will be played in Chelmsford with tickets now on sale.

India and Ireland played an exciting two-match T20I series in 2022 – and while India won the series 2-0, both matches were nail-biting affairs during which Ireland were unlucky not to record at least one memorable victory (see 1st T20I scorecard and 2nd T20I scorecard). The return of the world’s top-ranked T20I side for a second consecutive year represents a vote of confidence in the talent and competitiveness of the current Irish side and a fitting end to the home international fixtures this summer.

Earlier in the summer, Ireland Men will face Bangladesh in a three-match one-day international series that may result in a remarkable Cricket World Cup qualification for the Men in Green. The matches, to be played at the Cloud County Ground in Chelmsford, in early May are both sides’ final World Cup Super League fixtures. While Bangladesh have already qualified for the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup, a 3-0 series win for Ireland may see them also qualify automatically for the global tournament. If Ireland do not win 3-0, they will head to Zimbabwe in June for the 50-over World Cup Qualifier.

These newly confirmed fixtures complete a busy six-month playing schedule for Ireland Men which begins this month with the tour to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. In total, Ireland Men will potentially play more than 30 matches between March and September.

Paceman Craig Young has been declared fit to join up with Ireland Men’s T20I squad in Bangladesh.

Young, 32, made his international debut in 2013 and has played 103 times for Ireland. He has 151 wickets at an average of 25.77.

Part of the Ireland Men’s T20 World Cup squad in 2022, he was forced to withdraw before the start of the tournament and has been back home recovering and rehabilitating since.

Mark Rausa, Head of Physiotherapy and Medical Services for Cricket Ireland, said:

“Craig has joined the T20I squad in Bangladesh after a long lay-off period due to longstanding groin and pelvic issue. He has spent the past 6-8 weeks returning to bowling and completing his rehab after a period of enforced rest, as directed by the medical team and specialists.”

This is the biggest win by BD in ODI format ever (previous biggest was by 169 runs).

Bangladesh recorded their biggest-ever win in ODI cricket as they beat Ireland by 183 runs in the first match of the series in Sylhet.

In a dominant all-round display from the hosts, Ireland was bowled out for 155 after Bangladesh had scored 338-8 batting first (their highest-ever score in men's ODIs).

Shakib Al Hasan and Towhid Hridoy put on a 135-run stand for the fourth wicket, but both fell to Graham Hume within ten runs of individual centuries. Hume went on to take his career-best figures in ODI cricket, claiming 4-60 in only his fifth match in the format. An excellent spell after the powerplay from Bangladesh put paid to Ireland's hopes of enacting their highest-ever successful run-chase to win the match.

After electing to bowl first, Ireland got off to a good start when Mark Adair snared Tamim Iqbal in his second over. With Curtis Campher and Andy McBrine chipping in to dismiss Litton Das and Najmul Hossain Shanto respectively, Ireland was well in amongst them with Bangladesh still yet to reach the hundred mark in the 20th over.

But Shakib soon found his rhythm and began to reach the boundary. After he brought up his fifty from 65 balls, he cut loose in the 35th over with five fours in the over. As Shakib unleashed his carnage from one end, Hridoy matched him blow for blow from the other. He scored his maiden ODI fifty off 55 balls and dealt a hefty blow to Hume a few balls later, smashing a maximum down the ground.

Even with Shakib dismissed by a yorker in that same over, there was no relief for the Ireland bowlers. Mushfiqur hit a 26-ball 44 which included seven boundaries to push Bangladesh past 300. Once Hume prized him out and castled Hridoy two balls later, cameos from Taskin Ahmed and Yasir Ali gave Bangladesh their record total.

Stirling and Doheny's watchful start was in vain as Ireland stuttered after the powerplay. They lost five wickets for 16 runs after the 11th over - with all of their top order back in the hutch.

Campher and Dockrell gave those watching back at home some hope, steadying the ship with a promising partnership before Campher was trapped in front by Nasum Ahmed. Ahmed then ripped through Gareth Delany and McBrine in consecutive deliveries, pinning Delany lbw and tempting McBrine to flick at a legside delivery, the keeper Rahim taking a fine catch.

Dockrell was the last wicket to fall for an admirable 45 off 47 balls. He was bowled by a 142 kph yorker from Hossain which crashed into his leg stump, ending the innings in the 31st over.

Ireland will need a victory in the second match of the series on Monday to stay in the series.

BD - 278/4 (43 overs).

17 from the over. Massive over.

Still scratching my head why Ireland chose to bowl first. This is a proper batting pitch.

Current partnership (Towhid and Mushfiq): 92 runs from 9.5 overs.

These two have been good.

Mushfiq reaches 7000 ODI runs. Fourth keeper to do so in ODI history (after Sangakara, Dhoni, and Gilchrist).

Congratulations.

Fastest ODI century for BD came from 63 balls.

Mushfiq is on 83* from 48 balls. Opportunity to break the record.

BD finish at 349/6 after 50 overs. Highest ODI total for BD.

Mushfiq reaches his 100 from 60 balls. Fastest ODI century for BD.

Ireland need 350 to win.

Brilliant knock by Mushfiqur. Need him in top form going into world cup.

Tawhid Hridoy impressive again. Good middle order find. Has the shots too.

Missed out on 350 by one run. This Yasir Ali dude isn’t international standard, 7 off 7, what a waste of space. Taskin is a better hitter than him. Mahmudullah is safe for sure.

Glad they dropped Afif. Yasir should be dropped too.

Bring in those U19 guys. Towhid is also from U19 batch.

Match delayed due to rain

Would be a pity if rained off - BD deserve to win after this performance.

Rain has become lighter. I am not sure how effective this ground's drainage system is.

We may see a washout here.

No result (due to rain)

The second one-day international between Bangladesh and Ireland has been abandoned because of persistent rain.

The hosts broke their two-day-old highest score, set in their 183-run win on Saturday with 394-6, but Ireland were unable to bat as rain arrived during the interval and never relented.

Mushfiqur Rahim scored his eighth ODI century off the final delivery and his country's fastest off 60 balls.

Bangladesh's total was 11 runs more than they made in Saturday's opener.

Mushfiqur, 35, hit 14 fours and two sixes in his innings of 100, with nine of those boundaries coming in 11 balls either side of his 50.

His innings was backed up by 73 from Najmul Hossain Shanto, with Litton Das contributing 70.

Graham Hume was again pick of the Irish bowlers with 3-58.

The sides will meet again in their final ODI encounter on Thursday, before contesting a three-match Twenty20 series.

Ireland have won the toss and have opted to bat

angladesh have named a 14-member squad for the three-match T20I series against Ireland, starting 27 March.

Rishad Hossain and Jaker Ali Anik are the two fresh faces in the Bangladesh squad for the T20I series against Ireland. T20I regulars Afif Hossain and Nurul Hasan do not find a place in the Shakib Al Hasan-led team.

Jaker Ali Anik has an experience of 49 domestic T20 games where he has scored 587 runs at an average of 20.96. The 25-year-old wicketkeeper-batter was part of the victorious Comilla Victorians in the Bangladesh Premier League 2023, scoring 175 runs while averaging 25.

Rishad Hossain, on the other hand, has not featured in domestic T20s since 2021 but has been a regular net bowler with the Bangladesh national team. A leg spinner by trait, Rishad offers wrist spin variation in a Bangladesh squad that is brimming with finger-spinning talent.

Bangladesh go into the Ireland series riding on the momentum of whitewashing Men's T20 World Champions England 3-0 at home.

Squad: Shakib Al Hasan (c), Litton Das, Rony Talukdar, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, Shamim Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Nasum Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Rishad Hossain, Jaker Ali Anik
Speaking on the two new call-ups to the squad, Chief selector Minhajul Abedin said: "Jaker received the call-up on the back of his domestic performance. He has done well for the A team as well.

"Since we're playing against Ireland, we want to see a bit of Rishad. The management also wanted a leg-spinner. That's why we've picked him. I hope the newcomers will seize the opportunity," he added.

Bangla has a good set of players now.Their bowling is pretty good.BD perform below par in ICC tournaments due to lack of belief and inability to handle pressure.

Ireland being smashed here!

Bowled Ireland out for 101 in 28.1
Hasan Mahmud 5/32. Good find for Bangladesh.

First time all the wickets were taken by pacers for Bangladesh. Shakib didn’t even bowl. Good signs, BD moved away from dependence on spin for wickets.

Third one-day international, Sylhet

Ireland 101 (28.1 overs): Campher 36; Mahmud 5-32, Taskin 3-26
Bangladesh 102-0 (13.1 overs): Das 50*, Tamim 41*
Bangladesh won by 10 wickets

Bangladesh routed dismal Ireland by 10 wickets to complete a 2-0 victory in the one-day series in Sylhet.

After losing the opening match by 183 runs, weather saved Ireland in an abandoned game two but this was an even more chastening day for the visitors.

The tourists were bowled out for only 101 in 28.1 overs as paceman Hasan Mahmud took five wickets.

Bangladesh reached the paltry target in just 13.1 overs with Litton Das and Tamim Iqbal unbeaten on 51 and 40.

After their one-day series hammering, Ireland now face the task of regrouping for three T20 contests against a side that whitewashed England in the format earlier this month.

Seamer Hasan claimed his maiden five-wicket ODI haul while conceding only 32 runs after the tourists elected to bat first.

Taskin Ahmed and Ebadot Hossain also shone with the ball to claim 3-26 and 2-29 respectively, with Ireland recording the lowest one-day score against Bangladesh.

Curtis Campher top-scored for the Irish with 36, while Lorcan Tucker made 28 after surviving a duck when Litton dropped him at slip.

Hasan struck in his opening spell to leave Ireland struggling at 22-3 in the ninth over.

Taskin then removed Ireland skipper Andy Balbirnie for six before Tucker turned up the aggression to hit Ebadot for three fours in one over.

Ebadot soon had his revenge, taking two wickets in two balls, and Taskin sealed Ireland's collapse with a double strike in his seventh over.

Openers Litton and Tamim were both untroubled by an Irish bowling attack that served up 10 wides and a leg bye.

The drubbing was Bangladesh's first 10-wicket win in any format, with the hosts smashing records in each match.

Saturday's opener marked their biggest ODI victory margin while they recorded their highest ODI total on Monday with 349-6 as Mushfiqur Rahim scored the fastest ODI century by a Bangladeshi batsman off 60 balls, before rain meant the game had to be abandoned.

Good performance from BD pacers. Took all 10 wickets. I think this is the first time BD pacers have taken all 10 wickets in ODI.

Bangladesh vs Ireland, 1st T20I

BAN 207/5 (19.2)

IRE 81/5 (8)

Bangladesh won by 22 runs (DLS method)

reland huffed and puffed for a bit, but ultimately a comfortable win for Bangladesh. Paul Stirling took down Nasum Ahmed in the first over, going hell for leather from the first ball. His partner Ross Adair also scored a few boundaries, as Rahman proved expensive in his first over too. Hasan Mahmud bowled a brilliant over, picking up Adair and conceding just five runs. Then Taskin Ahmed bowled a dream over, picking three wickets off his first four balls, practically ending the vigil. Harry Tector simmered for a bit, but the experience of Shakib and Rahim proved to be too much. In the end a comfortable win for Bangladesh, it could have infact been an embarassing defeat for the Irish had it not been for the rain that ate away big chunks of play today.

50 for Litton. Came from 18 balls.

This is the fastest T20I fifty for Bangladesh ever.

BAN 202/3 (17)

IRE 125/9 (17)

Bangladesh won by 77 runs

PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Shakib Al Hasa

Second T20 international, Chittagong
Bangladesh 202-3 (17 overs): Das 83, Talukdar 44, Shakib 38*; White 2-28
Ireland 125-9 (17 overs): Campher 50,Tector 22, Hume 20*; Shakib 5-22, Taskin 3-27
Bangladesh won by 77 runs

Bangladesh comfortably saw off Ireland by 77 runs to secure an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match Twenty20 series between the sides in Chittagong.

A delayed start because of rain led to the match being reduced to 17 overs per side, but the hosts still racked up a formidable total of 202-3.

Litton Das top-scored with 83 off 41 balls, while Rony Talukdar hitting 44.

Ireland struggled in their reply, Curtis Campher making 50 and Shakib Al Hasan ending with figures of 5-20.

Shakib also contributed an unbeaten 38 in an innings which saw Ben White take the wickets of prolific openers Das and Talukdar, who put together a spirited partnership of 124.

However, Bangladesh's run rate of almost 12 runs per over proved too difficult for Ireland to match and, after Paul Stirling fell for a 'duck' off the opening ball, wickets fell at regular intervals.

Shakib took the wickets of Lorcan Tucker, Mark Adair, Gareth Delany, George Dockrell and Harry Tector to wipe out Ireland's upper and middle order batters, with only Campher putting up stubborn resistance with his half century off 30 balls.

Tector struck three sixes in his 22, while Graham Hume unbeaten on 20.

Taskin Ahmed ably supported Shakib by taking 3-27.

Bangladesh defeated Ireland by 22 runs in their opening rain-affected T20 encounter on Monday, with the third of their three games taking place on Friday.

The hosts won the preceding three-match one-day international series 2-0 and the teams will meet for a one-off Test in early April.

Bangladesh are no joke in their own den but extremely disappointed to see Ireland's progress in international level. They got thrashed left and right in all the matches

Paul Stirling scored a 77 runs off 41 balls to help Ireland secure a 7-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the third T20I. Bangladesh, however, secured the series 2-1 having won the first two T20Is. Earlier with the ball, Mark Adair led from the front, securing 3 important wickets as Bangladesh were bundled out for 124 runs. Shamim Hossain was the only player for the hosts who had scored a half-century

The fact that no one after no 6 can be called a batsman or even a bowling allrounder is just hilarious

The fact that no one after no 6 can be called a batsman or even a bowling allrounder is just hilarious

They rested Mehidy. Was experimenting a bit.

It's okay. I am not too fussy about T20 results. ODI matters more now that ODI World Cup is near.

Paul Stirling and Matthew Humphreys starred to give Ireland a seven-wicket victory in their final white-ball match in Bangladesh.

Humphreys took two wickets in his first three balls on T20I debut as Ireland bowled Bangladesh out for 124. In a standout performance with the ball, all seven of Ireland’s bowlers contributed to the wicket tally, Bangladesh falling four balls short of batting their 20 overs.

Paul Stirling then knocked off the bulk of the runs with the bat, scoring 77 off 41 as Ireland chased down their target with six overs to spare. The result was Ireland’s first-ever win over Bangladesh on home soil - a significant turnaround on a white-ball tour in which the hosts have dominated with bat and ball.

In stark contrast to the fast starts made in the first two matches of the series, Bangladesh capitulated in the powerplay having elected to bat first. Looking to be aggressive up front once more, four out of the first five wickets to fall were caught in the deep on the leg side as the batters looked to clear the rope.

Litton Das picked out George Dockrell on the boundary off Mark Adair’s first ball, and Harry Tector struck at the end of the next over to dismiss Najmul Hossain Shanto. After he juggled the catch off Shanto in the deep - nearly dropping it before clinging on with his second grab - Curtis Campher joined the wicket-taking ranks by dismissing Rony Talukdar, leaving Bangladesh 24-3 at the end of the fourth over.

Despite a short boundary blitz from Towhid Hridoy, the wickets continued to tumble. Mark Adair picked up his second with the penultimate ball of the powerplay, Shakib Al Hasan playing a loose shot to give Ben White a dolly at midwicket before White got in on the act himself. He dismissed Hridoy looking to continue his attack, Tector taking another easy catch.

Humphreys stole the bowling show, however, sending down a memorable first over in T20I cricket. He cleaned up fellow T20I debutant Rishad Hossain with his first delivery - the 25th bowler in history to take a wicket with the first ball of their T20I career - the ball cannoning into leg stump as Hridoy looked to heave over long-on. He struck again two balls later to dismiss Taskin Ahmed, caught at deep midwicket once again by Campher and finished his first over with figures of 2-3.

Humphreys’ over marked the halfway point in Bangladesh’s innings, with the hosts in an unfamiliar position in the series at 64-7. A steady maiden T20I half-century off 40 balls from Shamim Hossain dragged the hosts past the three-figure mark. He was the final batter to fall, giving a catch to backward square-leg off Fionn Hand to ensure all seven of Ireland’s bowlers had a mark in the wickets column.

Set 125 to chase, Paul Stirling led the march to a well-deserved victory. Despite the loss of Ross Adair and Lorcan Tucker in the powerplay, he powered Ireland forward, hitting five boundaries in the first six overs of the innings.

He reached his 22nd T20I half-century off 31 balls before unleashing a flurry of boundaries to accelerate towards the target. Shoriful Islam was hit for four consecutive boundaries by Stirling immediately after he reached his fifty, starting with a huge six over fine leg before he scooped a full ball for four over the same boundary.

Stirling was finally dismissed going for another maximum down the ground, caught in the deep by Shanto off Rishad Hossain, but the damage had already been done. Campher finished the match with a six to complete a dominant victory for Ireland.

Having lost the T20I series 2-1, the only Test match of the tour will begin next week on Tuesday, 4 April in Dhaka.

MATCH SUMMARY

Bangladesh welcome back talismanic opener Tamim Iqbal to the fold for their one-off Test against Ireland.

Tamim last played a Test match in June 2022 against the West Indies and missed the series against India due to an injury. The selectors have also named Shoriful Islam, Ebadot Hossain and Shadman Islam in the squad.

The squad will be led by Shakib Al Hasan, whose availability is a big boost. There were reports that Shakib and Litton Das would be released early from the squad to participate in the IPL for the Kolkata Knight Riders.

The 14-member squad though will be without the services of Zakir Hasan who is currently suffering from a finger injury.

Bangladesh have also left out Yasir Ali, Rejaur Rahman and Nasum Ahmed from the squad.

The one-off Test is set to be played in Dhaka between April 4-8. Bangladesh won the three-match ODI series 2-0 and prevailed with a 2-1 margin in the T20I fixtures.
