Irfan Pathan has named his baby boy after Pakistan’s legendary pacer Imran Khan.

Irfan was blessed with a baby boy on December 19 and revealed the name of his baby on Christmas day. “This name is close to our hearts n family....The name is IMRAN #Imrankhanpathan @iamyusufpathan,” tweeted the out-of-favour Indian all-rounder.

With Irfan’s brother, Yusuf Pathan also having being an India cricketer, it was nothing surprising that they were inspired by a cricketing great.

Imran Khan is considered one of the greatest all-rounders in cricketer and his exploits as captain for Pakistan made them the top team in the 80’s and 90’s. Imran led Pakistan to their first World Cup victory in 1992.

Irfan’s hat-trick in his first over of the Karachi Test in 2006 had earned the India pacer high praise from Pakistani great Imran Khan, who lauded his maturity at a young age and his bowling action resembled him of a young Wasim Akram.

Congratulations to Irfan,If i'm correct Zaheer Khan's fav world cup moment before 2011 was Imran Khan lifting the 1992 WC as well(saw it on documentarish.

Imran teray ja-nasheeen

Beshumaar Beshumaar

Imran Khan is a cruel conqueror who destroyed Indian Cricket Team, this name is inadmissible. :uak

I really hope the Hindutva crew has a problem with this due to the numerous spankings Imran Khan gave their team both home and away

Congrats to Irfan, he is one player I always hoped would make a come back, so much potential. Greg just destroyed his career.

Is it really necessary to turn this positive thread without even a provocation into a hindu muslim troll fest?

Hopefully he ll not be arrested :yk2

On serious note, congrats to him
And name may have nothing to do with Imran Khan for ispiration as he said name is closed to hearts n family.

I follow yusuf Pathan on facebook
Very much family orientated guy

Seem like a very nice family

Congratulations to them

Lol @ some people equating the name Taimur to Imran and hoping there is some controversy on twitterland.

Seen hundreds of Muslims in India and nobody had the name Taimur while Imran is a very common name.

Some posters suggesting that Imran Khan's cricketing achievements against India batsman in cricket to Taimurs brutality is cringeworthy.

This is like some celebrity in USA naming their kid OBL. It's their wish, but distasteful.

Do we have to stoop down to such a level where we start dictating what names are tasteful and what are distasteful? What was the name of Nirbhaya's rapist? By the way osama is also a very common muslim name.

Doesn't say anything about our Imran Khan. There have been many Imran's before him as well. Maybe he named the child after Imran Farhat or Imran Nazir:))

Then the name would be Imran Pathan. However he has named his kid Imran Khan Pathan

Imran Khan is the name given not just Imran

do you personally have a problem with it if he comes out and clearly says it is in honor of Imran khan the cricketer?

its fun trolling thin skinned folks :D

The father's name is Irfan Khan Pathan, therefore, I suppose it's debatable whether the son was named after Imran Khan or simply after Imran, while inheriting his father's middle name and surname (i.e. Khan Pathan).

I dont think so I have ever heard that name , even Aurangzeb is not a common name

Imran and Taimur are very common names. Aurangzaib is not that common. Aesthetics wise Taimur is the best name then Aurangzaib and then Imran IMO.

We once had a chauffeur in our house named Aladin..

Actually he was Sindhi and it was spelled as Allah-deen, but close enough.

Prolly don't know many Muslims from that region.

Aurangzeb was even name of a famous road in India till recently so name it is common

You have to realise that many Muslims in India esp UP, old Delhi live in insular communities and have little interaction with non Muslims so the thought of why this may not be a welcome name doesn't even cross their mind most likely

Where does it say that the boy was named after Imran Khan and even if he was, why is this news? A total non-story.

I have nothing against the names . Imran is pretty common , Aurangazeb I have heard a few times but not Taimur . it sounds very Bangladeshi for some reason to me .

I admit I have very little interactions with muslims from UP area , so its possible .
