NZ started extremely well with Boult getting a hatrick and then Pakistan came back well to win the second ODI comfortably.
Is 1-1 a fair result?

I'd say Williamson will be more relieved than Sarfraz with this result. There's your answer

Pak had a shot at winning.

But blessing in disguise. Would have gotten complacent. Now, we really should beat SA on merit in ODIs. And prove that we're not minnows.

Really awaiting SA ODI series. Will be our true test.

No way. This was our series to win. We had already dismissed the danger man Munro, and the rest of the NZ batting line-up isn't to strong. Heck even a 2-1 scoreline would not have been fair, the only reason NZ won that first match was because of Boult's hat-trick otherwise we should have won this series 3-0.

That is some strange reasoning. "The only reason the opposition team won is because they played better than us, so it doesn't count".

Pakistan should have won this series and with the way the game was going, you would have backed them to. Unfortunately for us, we had to share the series.

We were easily winning this last ODI. NZ only have 3 successful chases of 250plus scores in Asia out of 35odd tries.

Pakistan were well on course to win it, Munro was the only danger man and he was gone early. NZ would be happy they escaped with a draw.

See I think you need to get your eyes checked. I said the only reason NZ won was because of that one magical moment that went there way. Or maybe you just don't understand the difference between a "moment" and the whole match.

New Zealand have lost four out of the five matches on this tour, and they just about escaped from their fifth loss here. They have been dominated in all four defeats, requiring a freak Boult hat-trick to win them the first ODI.

Let that sink in.

No way. The ending to today's match was a big disappointment.

Its just a game, these things happen.

Yes Pak was favorites and we have really improved as an ODI team. We have a lot of ODIs ahead, 5 vs SA,
5 vs Aus (To be confirmed I guess) and 5 vs Eng.

In immediate future hopefully we can win the test series 3-0 and and get to 4th or even 3rd rank in that,

Throughout the series other than the Boult's hatrick Pak has dominated convincingly.

No, Pakistan was overall better.

But these bilaterals don't mean so much in the grand scheme of things, it is all about trying to figure out the best combination, getting some match experience and a few standout performances by youngsters are always welcome. Also importantly by winning the 2nd ODI Pakistan have at least stemmed the tide, it seemed like NZ was becoming a mental block in this format. Remember SA winning some 17 consecutive ODIs against you guys a few years back, never good to have such trends before a WC.

Also what is with Arab weather system spoiling grand finales, we saw that Indo-Pak Asian Hockey Champions Trophy final get abandoned because of heavy downpour in Muscat and now this.

This. The wrist-slitters got off the hook today. NZ were not getting more than 250.

By that logic, the only reason NZ scored only 266 in that match is because of that "magic moment" when Shadab took 3 wickets in one over. Otherwise they were scoring 290 which Pak surely wouldn't have chased down.

I agree with Sachin136. Your logic is absurd.

Whatever happens after today, I hope management doesn't continue to keep overlooking Haris Sohail, especially after his contribution. He proved that indeed he can bat. Winning today would have really sent the message, but hopefully they remember how well he did. Plus, rain is a part of life lol, nothing we can do, but they did play very well today, and the last ODI too, so I tip my hat to them for their hardwork in rising back up, they have nothing to be ashamed of.

A shame really but hey JAMODIS.
Apart from that freak Boult over PAK dominated NZ.
Now please open with babar and FZ. Haris should at 3.
Malik is good for T20 leauges.

I think PAK was overall better team : 1-1 after losing both tosses. Today’s game also ended too early (DWL per after 7 overs was 35-1!!!!), but Kiwis are more happy today for the wash out - that keeps the rubber with them for the earlier series win.

At the end, PAK must be rueing for those 2 un-bowled overs by Afridi. At 211-7, I do believe couple of overs by Afridi could have reduced the target by critical 25 runs at least.

Just a question. Do stats from a washout count?

Apparently, Boult's hat-trick was freakish but Shadab and Imad combining to take 4 wickets in 9 deliveries was just normal I guess. Happens every game, doesn't it?

And didn't your legend, best left armer since Wasim Akram, got tonked for 80 runs in 10 runs against a mediocre, nay, finished batting attack today (figures were not great in the last match either) ?

Best to balance the hyperbole you spout for the opposition with the pessimism you dish out for the side you 'supposedly' support next time...

Boult is one of the best bowlers in the world who had a couple of rough games. What does that have to do with his freakish hat-trick and not freakish 4 wickets in 9 balls?

For the record, I would not classify either of the two as freakish, but I think it is extremely hypocritical to suggest that Pakistan would have won the first game if it wasn't for Boult's freakish hat-trick without taking into consideration that the 4 wickets in 9 balls was equally freakish as well, without which New Zealand would have handed out a bigger thrashing.

No Pakistan only played poorly for the first 70 overs, the rest they dominated NZ in the series.

Rain ensured Pakistan missed out on the series win.

Lol what’s the point of this thread? Pak won 1 and Nz 1. What’s not fair about it?

We would have won today. Could have been close but I think 280 would have been difficult to chase on that pitch.

Nope, we have been robbed. Really disappointing especially considering the poor run we have had in ODIs. 5-0 in NZ and humiliated in the Asia Cup, now we almost won a series against a good team only for the rain to spoil it.

With all due respect to NZ team your Bhiajaan feels Pakistan had just enough on the board tonight to win the series.

A series win in the Tests for Pakistan will end a disgraceful tour for New Zealand, in which they have been dominated in almost all games. Is this how a top team performs?

Let that sink in.

The first 2 T20s were both close decided in the final over better spin bowling won the games for Pak so no they haven't been totally dominated they are lacking a quality spinner in these conditions.

I am beginning to see the light at the tunnel. Haris, Babar and Fakhar showed that they can bat well against a good attack and our own SHENSHAH is coming on leaps and bounds.

Pakistan had the edge and were on course for victory. Despite the rain playing spoiler, I thought there were many positives to take.

That was our best batting performance against a top ODI side in UAE since the time we scored 364 vs NZ in 2014.

The first T20 was as close as the 1st ODI. The margins of defeat flattered both New Zealand and Pakistan. NZ was out of the game in the 1st T20 as soon as CDG got out.

Pakistan trashed NZ 3-0 in T20 and it was a sure 3-0 in ODI as well, except for that one over by Boult in 1st ODI and the surprising rain on Sunday!
