What's new

Is a win still possible from here?

Deflecting the vitriol directed at me, barring a dramatic collapse, the ball is Australia's court now to try and force something here.

If I was Smith, I would look to get a lead of 120-150 and give Pakistan 100 overs to bat for a draw. This is the type of situation that we don't like, as the Abu Dhabi and Edgbaston Tests showed.

Nonetheless, draw is still the most likely outcome. For a team that is hailed for its fighting spirit, they should set the record straight block their way to a draw.

Maybe if we induce a collapse tomorrow. However more showers are forecast tomorrow and we've already lost a lot of overs.

Forget about a win. I think Pakistan could be in trouble here if the aussies get a lead of 150+

Anyhow it is... Pakistan has to bat well in the 2nd inns to save this test match from losing..

With poor bowling and captaincy 278 run lead has been washed away at 5-6 runs per over... Expecting the same from the senior pros, again it is upto Azhar and Shafiq to step up for pak...

If pak loses 3-0 provided the poor show from MISBAH and YOUNIS continues through out the series.. Hopefully there will be youngsters replacing them in the next series... Younis might survive with his flawed technique and experience, but MISBAH looks like he is retiring quick and fast

SPOT ON - my fear is that Aussies will get a 120ish lead - our nitwits will see that a draw is inevitable and with that mind set collapse and gift the series! On the plus they can get to the club early and get their orders in!??

lol we should be forgetting about a win. I have a feeling we will actually lose this test. Rain will stay away when Pakistan need rain but whenever it is Australia that need rain it does rain. They'll get a lead of perhaps 200 then they could even beat us by an innings

Don't think there will be any cricket post lunch tomorrow

Pitch looks like a deathbed for bowlers.

Unless batsmen get unlucky or throws it away, it will be hard for bowlers to pick wickets.

I expect Aussies to score 500 and declare at the end of Day-4. Pak will have to survive for a day (which they will easily do)

The wicket of Warner was key for a result. Had Warner batted till lunch tomorrow, Pak would be batting by tea.
Now Smith looks scratchy and I do not see anyone who can tear down the opposition. May be Khwaza can shift gears after is 100.

Draw is the most likely result. A very poor wicket for Test cricket.

The rain is to blame, not the wicket. With all the time taken out of the game this was effectively a day two pitch, which would usually be the best time to bat during the game. At this rate and with the weather forecasts for the next day or two we won't be able to tell if the pitch is crap or not until the fifth day.

Smith will unleash starc on us last few overs before close of day on day 4 and sami and maybe babar will be gone..by close

Younis and Azhar will try to get a 40 odd stand where the law of averages will take Azhar. Younis and Shafiq will put on another fighting 50 stand before Younis goes fishing and then it will be procession with Sarfraz or Shafiq trying to bat out the last session and Amir, Wahab throwing it away

Yep, good exhibition of our non-existent fighting spirit.

A lot of predictions made on day 3 came true

Unleashing starc it was

There are only 2 possible results : Australia win or draw. The latter looks more likely as of now.

But won't be surprised if Australia end up winning. They just have to clean up the tail for not more than 50 runs and bat for 450 at a decent rate (Warner is due for a big score in tests, I feel this is going to happen in this test). If that happens, there is every chance that we witness a Pakistan collapse giving a target of around 50 for Australia.

Pakistan exceeded my expectations. Didn't even let Australia play in their 2nd innings.
