Asif Ali looks like the perfect domestic bully.
He's been an absolute joke in the International level and unable to time bowlers properly because of their extra pace and variety. Has yet to play a match winning knock in either ODI or T20's and is somehow a worse version of Afridi's batting without the great fielding or bowling.
Pakistan just doesn't have a lot of talent domestically, to be honest. Maybe the upcoming young players are but most of the domestic players are just a bunch of mediocre players.

Did you like Babar Azam reaction.?@mmhs.Nice from captain Babar
Correction: he has been the worst investment by any team in any sport. He has been the worst investment of Pakistan team after Azhar and Asad.
Fickle - this word can be described for Pakistan as a whole. This guy clearly has the potential to really make an impact at the back end of an innings. We should provide him more chances to succeed. No idea why people are already after his life. Terrible attitudes and praying for failure. People should really change and become more positive.

I feel sorry for what he has gone through in his personally and may Allah help him overcome the roughness of life but how many more chances do you guys think he needs? Have you actually looked at his batting stats (both domestic and international)Point well made.
The way he's been bashed on here has been nothing short of disgraceful. The poor guy has been through a lot over the last 12 months with his daughter's ill health leading up to her death.
But that doesn't stop some low life individuals calling him "worst investment of Pakistan team after ...".

Putting aside batting he is a terrible fielder as well and cant bowl so I do not understand all the empathy and the sympathy. We are talking about representing Pakistan internationally, not some charity event.
I agree he should be dropped, as you said this is international sport and therefore we should adhere to meritocracy.
However, people over here need to give it a rest with hyperbole such as "hack", "worst investment ..." and etc.

Hasn't looked comfortable in international cricket.
Possibly one of those who will be remembered as not quite being good enough for international cricket.
I think there's a case for him to open in T20Is and ODIs.
He prefers pace on the ball, loves playing it in the air, and struggles with the spinners if my memory serves me correctly. Opening the innings he'd be facing pace bowlers with only 2 fielders outside the circle, he could take advantage of the packed infield and just hit over the top. Coming the middle/late overs as he does now has him with a more defensive field.
It's not the best case, but still a decent one. I wouldn't pick him for the time being but if he does, I'd want him to open.

Pakistan cricket international Asif Ali faces disciplinary action after swatting his bat within centimetres of bowler Keemo Paul’s face in a heated Caribbean Premier League match.

Asif, batting for Jamaica Tallawahs in Wednesday’s (NZT) match against Guyana Amazon Warriors in Trinidad, objected strongly to words from West Indies pace bowler Paul after he was dismissed for three.
As Paul appeared to give Asif a verbal send-off, the batsman gave a backhand swat of his bat in the bowler’s direction, narrowly missing his face.
Asif Ali of Jamaica Tallawahs takes aim towards Keemo Paul of Guyana Amazon Warriors in a Caribbean Premier League flashpoint.
Paul turned and confronted Asif once again as he left the field, as commentators speculated match referee Reon King would explore the incident further. There was no physical contact but officials usually take a dim view of threatening on-field behaviour.
The Tallawahs, including Black Caps batsman Glenn Phillips, had the final say in a five-wicket victory chasing a target of 110.
Phillips got them off to a rapid start, clouting two sixes in his knock of 26 off 18 balls. He sits third on the CPL runscoring charts, with 128 at an average of 33 and strike rate of 133.
Fellow Black Caps batsman Ross Taylor scored 23 off 22 balls for Guyana – their eventual top score – before he was trapped in front by Andre Russell.
In the early game, the defending champion Barbados Tridents including Mitchell Santner and Corey Anderson suffered their third loss from four matches.
Anderson scored 31 off 19 balls in the Tridents’ total of 151-7, then Santner conceded 18 runs off two overs of spin as St Kitts and Nevis Patriots opener Evin Lewis plundered 89 off 60 balls. The Patriots won by six wickets with three balls to spare.
Trinbago Knight Riders – coached by Brendon McCullum and including Black Caps Colin Munro and Tim Seifert – top the table with three wins from as many matches.

Needs to control his temper.

Asif Ali guilty of breaching Code of Conduct
Jamaica Tallawahs batsman Asif Ali has been found guilty of breaching the Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) Code of Conduct. During the Tallawahs’ match against the Guyana Amazon Warriors on 25 August at Queen’s Park Oval, Ali swung his bat in the direction of opposition bowler Keemo Paul when he was dismissed in the eighth over of his team’s batting innings.
Ali was charged with being in breach of section 2.18 of the Code of Conduct, acting contrary to the spirit of the game. Ali admitted the offence and has been fined 20% of his match fee.
We really are desperate for a finisher. Khushdil hasn't been working out, and now we're turning back to Asif Ali, who already failed in a Pakistan shirt.
25 T20I's, Avg 18.4, SR 128.3 (isn't he supposed to be a big hitter?), high score of 41.
Is he really going to do much better this time?

Not unless he has suddenly developed some sort of batting intuition. Last time I saw him he is a blind slogger who doesn't play balls on their merit. He can hit the ball a long way, but any bowler with some smarts will be able to fool him by mixing things up and make him pick the wrong balls to go after.
His shot selection is terrible.
If you're a good bowler, you'll take the legside out of the game and bowl wider outside the off stump. Asif Ali would still try to hit a ball outside off on the leg side, resulting in easy catches.
He doesn't give himself time to settle and understand the situation, and I agree that he rarely plays balls on merit.
It should have been Azam Khan on the team instead, even though he's unfit, his shot selection and power-hitting is quite commendable.
Averages 25 with a SR of 145. Azam Khan averages 25 with an average of almost 160. Look at the difference.
Fakhar Zaman is in the same category, hits shots by numbers like he's playing roulette. That's why so many of his shots end up cross bat, he'll end up dragging balls from outside offstump and getting top edges then looking at his bat like he's totally surprised.
Bhai, for a guy coming in at #6 or #7 back end of the innings, he has not done too bad. Yes his stats may not say he is the best but saying he is the worst thing to happen is really stretching it. He is new, played handful of matches, showed a lot of potential. We need to provide more chances to him and give him more confidence. Of all the players, this guy has the potential to go further.
Let’s hope he doesn’t get a Visa to enter India, because i can’t see Mohammad Wasim or Misbah dropping him.
Sad to say this, Pakistan lacks power hitters, and Asif Ali can hit them clean.
It’s just one innings…law of averages he’s been so poor for so long he was due to come Off. Only today he did well after numerous games
