This is what the G.O.A.T does on a terrible pitch at the biggest stage
You know this Argentina team is awful when Messi has to come in his own half just to get the ball. Team has no midfield and he was mostly playing as defensive midfielder against Modric and Rakitic.
Portugal may not have great individual players but they are very well organized and disciplined side unlike Argentina. Their management has defined roles for each player so that Ronaldo doesn't have to play in different positions. That team is putting heart and sole for their talisman
This is a very timely thread.
On one hand I have seen Messi played his worst game ever (against Croatia) while on the other hand I have seen Ronaldo playing with his greatest luck ever (4 goals in 5 shots) (2 free goals against Spain).
People have short term memories. Couple of years ago everyone were on board in saying Messi is ahead of Ronaldo and even agreed that there is a daylight between them with Messi being the superior player. I also believe that a year or two down the line with Messi having age on his side people will again jump bandwagons over to Messi's side.
Overall, Messi is a level above Ronaldo and this is a fact which is well documented.

Messi without the likes of Iniesta, Xavi, Rakatic, would not have achieved the level of success that he has achieved.
It’s absolute nonsense to say that Ronaldo is not a play-maker. I have seen him play exquisite passes, pin-point crosses, amazing through-balls - however as he plays predominantly as a CF in a fixed formation (as opposed to a flexible one) he is less focused on those aspects.
Anyway - Messi only ever played for Barcelona with amazing playmakers and has been successful. However, which Argentina, he hasn’t achieved the same level of success.
Ronaldo has been successful with Man Utd, Real Madrid and Portugal hence more proof that he relies less on players around him and more in his own abilities.
No this guy is
Maradonna spoiled us, after watching him everybody is simply second rate. Never seen anyone with close to his dribbling abilities.
People have pointed out how defenders, pace and athleticism etc were all inferior; not like Diego had an unfair advantage over them then being a product of that same era so it all levels out.
Your name makes this so funny lolJeez why is this a question?
Can you stop insulting the goat??
Obviously Ronaldo's THE GOAT
No!
Diego Maradona is the GOAT.
Spot on!No - Johan Cruiff was far better player in his position; while Fat Ronaldo definitely & probably Gerd Muller, Van Basten we’re better scorers.
Spot on!
Do you agree or disagree that maradona was the greatest footballer of all time?
Again you are spot on!AgreeBetween 1985 to 1987, for Agres & Napoli, he was absolutely unstoppable.
He is the GOAT.
Who even is Messi?
Never heard of the guy
Edit:
Just saw this picture of his. Now it's my PP.

Absolutely crazy stuff from Ronaldo.
What a freak of nature.
Modric winning wasn't strange at all, he was the best player at the WC and had the narrative of leading an unlikely team like Croatia to the Final. He won a ballon d'or after 4 years.
Apart from that, Ronaldo deserved it last year as well, it was strange to give it to Modric of all people.
Complete GOAT lmao. Was a master of freekicks during his Manchester United days and was excellent till 2014-2015.
The greatest header of the ball in football history.
The man you can trust to take and score a penalty in the 93rd minute of the game absorbing the whole pressure.
He can score with both his feet without any problem, his weak foot being extremely powerful.
The complete GOAT. What a header though. He literally jumped at a height of more than 8ft. Unbelievable.
Just saw this picture of his. Now it's my PP.He is the GOAT.

These numbers are insane and if you just take the numbers then he is the GOAT for sure. But of course, it doesn't always work like that. I think Maradona is the best player ever but his numbers are nowhere near Ronaldo's.
Who would have thought anybody getting close to Ali Daei's record never mind having a chance to surpass it. I mean Daei was probably banging in goals for fun against the likes Kuwait, Maldives and Outer Mongolia etc.
2.5 years later and he still is going strong.
Undoubtedly the GOAT.
Did Messi die?
In all seriousness, one of the goats for sure. Almost any other era and he would've been the best of his generation. Messi is just a touch above him.
Messi actually played better than Ronaldo who got 2 penalties, and Messi is not even interested in playing Barcelona these days. The only reason he turned up yesterday was because of Ronaldo’s presence on the pitch.
Messi will always be better than Ronaldo. He is the most complete attacker ever and rivaled only by Maradona. However, as pure goal scorers, Ronaldo and Messi are equal.
Ronaldo has never been able to compete with Messi as a playmaker. That is the real difference between the two.
The first part is arguable. Messi had more shots on target, but most of them were easy takes for Buffon. Even his freekick was on target but had no power to defeat the goalkeeper. Yes, he did create a few chances, and dribbled past the defenders on some occasions as well, but his finishing was not clinical enough.
Ronaldo won the first penalty, and scored both times. His goals gave his team the opportunity to finish as group toppers and avoid tough opponents in the RO16, such as Bayern, Liverpool or City. He was well involved in the defensive play after the first 2 goals, dropping in the backline on multiple occasions.
Messi not being interested in playing for Barcelona is a myth. Yes, had a few problems with the board led by Bartomeu. However, now that the latter is gone as per his wish, he has no reason to show this lack of interest. The thing is that Barcelona are playing awful football nowadays, and Messi being out of form has a huge impact on the team's result.
