People don't really rate him high because of the presence of ABD, de kock, amla, duminy around him. But he has been a fine cricketer for the proteas and he has been doing a great job with CSK as well. They like him.

I think CSA treated him really poorly towards the end of his career. Essentially discarded him. ODIs, I can understand because South Africa had a horrific 2019 WC campaign. But in Tests and T20Is, he still had alot to offer. His captaincy is a very underrated aspect. I thought he was their best captain since Greame Smith and not only very shrewd tactically, but also a great leader of men. His fitness has also been at a remarkable level always.
Been a fan of his ever since his epic 2010 Adelaide blockathon. I feel like he could have achieved much more for South Africa, if he was given the chance to do so.
Faf du Plessis has overtaken Babar Azam to become the captain with the most centuries in T20 cricket, notching up his eighth ton in 200 innings. Babar and Michael Klinger follow closely with seven centuries each, though Babar achieved his in just 137 innings compared to Klinger's 114. Virat Kohli and James Vince round out the top five, both having scored five centuries while leading their sides in 188 and 205 innings respectively. Faf’s latest milestone cements his place as one of the most consistent and prolific leaders in T20 history.
Faf du Plessis became the first player in T20 history to score two centuries after the age of 40, highlighting his impressive fitness and consistent form even at this stage of his career.
