Is Hardik Pandya good enough to play as batsman in LOIs?

Lol, even after explaining to you, you came to the conclusion that I was comparing Pandya with Sehwag? Why do you consider everyone fool? I would be the last one to compare an opening batsman with middle/middle lower order one. I am not even mentioning Sehwag’s legendary status in tests as this thread is about limited overs cricket. Comprehension skills my friend, lots of room for improvement there.

Me putting picture of Sehwag has nothing to do with Pandya failing in crucial matches. I don't worship Sehwag or defended him even when he flopped. I was curious to know why and what was the purpose behind that because you were not making any sense. It seems you reply to posts even before reading the complete posts. Try it again buddy.

I also like Mike Tyson. Thank god I didn't put his picture in my avatar. :inti

Good to see some indian fans have started respecting Dhoni again after abusing him, calling him buddha, politician and what not. He has set the bar so high that now even they feel honoured when a firangi coach compare their Golden boy Pandya to him. :inti

You are drifting away form the topic sir and I can understand why 😂
When Some firangi praise Pandya you got Problem with that when Indians praise Pandya you ask them to remove their Blue tinted glasses.. By the off topic What colour glasses Moody and Langer wearing

So on what basis are you saying that the probability of him failing is very less? It's 50-50. :inti

I am saying that on the basis that Pandya have improvise a lot as a batsman and the way he reads the game. Now you tell me on what basis you so damn sure Pandya will be a failure for India

Drifting away from the topic? Are you alright? I actually posted after Langer compared his inning with Dhoni's. :inti

I am really surprised to see posters who claim to be Indian are being bitter at Pandya’s match winning inning today. Either they are not Indians or they possess no knowledge of cricket, win-win for them, lol

There are lots of factors. First one is him playing endless matches in IPL, getting injured and not able to bowl. If he doesn't bowl he won't be able to survive as a batsman alone. He is inconsistent too. You can check his stats. Playing innings like this here and there won't cut it as a specialist batsman. I want a specialist batsman to play in place of him in LOI's. He is ok for T20's though. :inti

ODI's :inti

Samson is explosive too. We need to keep giving him chances till he figures out how to build an inning in international cricket.

Sharma
Dhawan
Kohli
Rahul
Pandya
Jadeja

I think the above mentioned 6 places should be a certainty in out batting line up going I to 2023 world cup

If Rahul keeps which he should as we don't need a specialist wicket keeper in India, then India can play an extra bowler or one of Iyer, Samson, Gill, Shaw as well

Overall, it looks like India is all set to enter world cup with a studded batting line up.

Enjoying his best series to date Pandya. Wonder if he will get a chance in Tests as well.

He was the Man of the series against Australia in 2017 where we won 4-1. But that was for his all round performance. As a batsman, this has been his best series/tour.

I agree with you on the point you said about IPL burnout. It will definitely take a toll on his body and how effective he will be as a bowler

But even in the case he stop rolling his arm Pandya can survive International cricket as a batsman alone. I am saying this base on the way he really improve as a batsman alone. Hardik Pandya is as good as a Proper batsmen for India

And all the points you mentioned above none explained why Pandya cannot perform under pressure

Do you have access to his stats or not? I am basing my opinion on his overall stats and performances under pressure so far. How hard is it to understand? :inti

Hurt by whom? A troll like you lol? Guys like you come and go everyday from here. :inti

Unlike you I am happy that India won, and I appreciate Pandya’s performance. Who is trolling here? It looks like you are trolling a good performance and a win.

Pandya has a lot of natural ability. However I have yet to see him up against genuine swing or genuine pace, not sure how he performed in IPL against Rabada, Nortje, etc?

Lol this thread is about Pandya and his performance as a specialist batsman. No where in my post I have said that I am not happy with India's win. Can you stop assuming things about me or quote that post where I have written that? :inti

He played against peak Tye, Sams and Swepson today. He has proved himself for the time being. :inti

So all your predictions are based on how he performed in the past. And you expect him to perform the same way in future with nil improvements. There is a big flaw in your argument sir.

I will repeat it again for you. Players do improve and become better with experience and age. And Pandya have immensely improved as a player.

That's why I said it's 50-50. You think he will improve because you have seen improvements in him, I on the other hand still think he has lot to prove and he is inconsistent. I am using stats, his fitness to base my opinion, you on the other hand think a curve can only go upward in a graph. Nothing is guaranteed so I will still say it's 50-50. :inti

He is not in India's Test squad for the upcoming series against Australia but fresh from his white-ball heroics, all-rounder Hardik Pandya on Sunday said he wouldn't mind staying back if the team management wants.

Coming back from a back surgery, Pandya, who is yet to start bowling on a regular basis, shone bright with the bat in the limited-overs matches against Australia, helping the visitors claim the T20 series after two big losses in the preceding ODI rubber.

Asked if he aspires to stay back for the four-match Test series starting December 17, Pandya said, "It's a different ball game, I think I need to be, I mean I don't mind but at the end of the day, the call is on the management. So, yeah, I don't think I can say much about it."

Pandya arrived in Australia having a played a key role for Mumbai Indians in their title-winning run in the Indian Premier League.

On Sunday, he powered India to a six-wicket win with a blazing 42 off 22 balls, helping the side score 25 off 12 balls and 14 in the final over for a series-clinching victory in the second and penultimate T20 International against Australia here.

The flamboyant all-rounder said he had worked on gaining mastery over "finishing games when it mattered the most" during the coronavirus-forced lockdown.

"During lockdown I wanted to focus on finishing games where it matters the most. It doesn't matter whether I score or don't score more runs," Pandya said at the post-match press conference.

The all-rounder was not new to the kind of situation he faced with at the SCG on Sunday, having won some and lost a few in the past.

"I have been in these situations many times and I learnt from my mistakes in the past. My game is always around the confidence which I carry, it has that fine line where I back myself and not become overconfident.

"I always remember all those times when we chased big totals and it helps," said the man who is a pretty good zone" at the moment and playing according to the situation instead of getting too excited.

Pandya hit debutant pacer Daniel Sams for two sixes -- one over long on and one over midwicket -- to seal the game in India's favour with two balls to spare.

"It was not about what they are doing, it was about what I can do. It's a matter of two big shots and today it came off. I always back myself. It's the situation I have always played. Whatever the team requires I always try to do.

"It's very simple. I like to look at scoreboard and play so that I know which bowlers to target."

He said he had always focused more on the process rather than the end result.

"In T20s, you actually have more time than you think. If we need 70-80 odd in 30 balls, I don't look at the whole thing and I break it down to 12 balls and focus more on the process than the end result."

Pandya was named the Man of the Match for his heroics with the bat but he thought the award should have gone to T Natarajan (2/20 in 4 overs) for the newcomer's fine effort with the ball.

"Special mention to Natarajan as well. I thought he should be the Man of the Match, because the bowlers struggled here and he had a really good game.

"He gave us a target about 10 or 15 runs lower than what it would have been. He keeps it simple and I prefer people who don't complicate things," Pandya said.

Speaking about the difference between playing in the IPL and for India, he said, "In franchise cricket, you have to step up because it's a professional sport, and here its about the love for your country and you feel more pressure here."

Pandya, who has often spoken about his love for the 1998-90s West Indian style of cricket, picked his Mumbai Indians teammate Kieron Pollard as his inspiration.

"I don't think I have to think much about that, it's going to be Polly. He has done it many, many times for his franchises, Mumbai Indians, for me the inspiration has always been him and I have been genuinely lucky seeing few of his knocks in the past," Pandya said.

Let me make it simple for you. It's 50-50. You believe his curve will go upward and I believe it will go downward. At least I have current stats and performances to base my opinion where as you are hoping for him to succeed just so you can have the last laugh. I am not into these things. :inti

I know Rohan. But he is a good poster. Its just about differences in opinion. Just a banter. And i can see him becoming Pandya's biggest supporter in future. 😂. Cheers..

Come on I don't want Pandya to succeed so I can have last laugh and celebrate Internet victory over some unknown poster.
You can build all your assumptions on whatever stats and conclusions you are drawing from God nows what stats. This is not the first time Pandya have played any match winning knock.

And tell me honestly do you really think Pandya have not improved as a Player since his debut..

So far under pressure he hasn't convinced me with his batting. Today's match was against lesser known bowlers and someone who has played more than 100 international matches will always perform here and there. Even Pandey scored a century against Aus in Aus. I don't think he will be consistent. That's why I said he has a lot to prove. I am not stopping anyone from thinking otherwise though. :inti

Well I can neither change your opinion nor your thought process.Good luck with that. But I do hope one day Pandya do something substantial from your point of view and you do acknowledge him generously without finding any excuses.👍

He is a 50+ test batsman. I have said it before and still stand by it. Give him 10 uninterrupted test matches and then we can talk. His bowling is a bonus though and will not be very handy in test matches.

Okay definitely not a 50+ test batter. Even Sehwag, Inzamam, Michael Clarke, Mahela Jayawardene didn't end up as 50+ batting average.

Massive improvement from 2 years ago. He is a dynamite of a player. I think his bowling has its limits. But his batting can even get better. Gun player. India is lucky to have him. Pakistan would fall head over heals to have him.

I wish some self proclaimed “cricket experts” can see this. Yes, he has improved a lot as far as his batting is concerned.

Tye, Sams and Swepson - sounds like the local accounting or notary office around the corner and they pulled a few of these guys out from there to go and play a round of T20 cricket.

Hardik Pandya is the Player Of The Series for his marvelous performance in the T20i series.

Pandya is the reason India won this series. Without him we would have lost the 2nd T20 and series would have been 2-1 in Australia's favour.

Indians to win T20I MOTS in Australia

Virat Kohli (2016)
Shikhar Dhawan (2018)
Hardik Pandya (2020)*

Swashbuckling India all-rounder Hardik Pandya on Tuesday said he is "heading back home", two days after raising hopes of extending his stay in Australia for the upcoming Test series following his incredible outing in the limited-overs leg. Coming off a back surgery and yet to start bowling on a regular basis, Pandya's showing in the just-concluded limited overs leg of the tour gave rise to hopes that he might be considered for Test selection. And those beliefs were strengthened when the all-rounder, after his match-winning effort on Sunday, said he wouldn't mind staying back if the team management wants. However, two days later, he confirmed that he is going back to India.

"I think I should head back home and spend some quality time with my family. I haven't seen my child for four months, so I'd like to spend some time with family right now," Pandya said after the third and final T20 International against Australia.

"Maybe in the future. I don't know, maybe," he added when asked about his Test comeback.

Earlier, asked if he aspired to stay back for the Test series starting December 17, Pandya had said, "It's a different ball game, I think I need to be, I mean I don't mind but at the end of the day, the call is on the management."

In the company of his skipper Virat Kohli, Pandya again threatened to take India home but Australia held nerves to finish with a consolation win after conceding the series in the second game on Sunday. For the sheer impact he made with his astonishing hitting, Pandya was named the Man of the Series.

"I'm quite pleased, and wouldn't mind getting the Man of the Series award, but it was a team effort.

"We all decided after the second ODI that we'll treat this as a four-match series now and we were hoping that we would win 3 three of four and that's what we got, so happy with that," Pandya said.

India lost the ODI rubber 1-2 after going down in the first two matches but fought back brilliantly to claim the T20I series with wins in the first and second game respectively.

Pandya underwent a back surgery in October last year in the UK. His lower back had troubled him since the Test series in England in 2018. The surgery kept him out of action for almost a year, with the all-rounder last playing a T20 International against South Africa at home in September 2019.

He missed the Tests against the same opposition after that, the home series against Bangladesh and West Indies, a T20I series against Sri Lanka and ODIs against Australia at home, and the entire tour of New Zealand earlier this year.

Sacrifices these players make. I think Indian players are in bio secular environment since mid August. That is very long time.

Top scorer for India in the ODI series...

Player of the series in the T20 series...

Both only as a special batsman.....

What a brutal slap to all his naysayers. :shhh

No, he (Rajdeep) did not say anything to minimize about soldiers’ sacrifices. Please stay focus on the context.
Salute to all the soldiers.

In this IPL so far -

1) He didnt play for 1st two games for Mumbai Indians

2) Played the game against RCB but didnt bowl. Only manage to score 2 runs with the bat.

No doubting his class but Question is with his current form and fitness, should he be in T20 world cup side?

His fitness is really suspect as of now. If he can't bowl, I don't see any point in him to be in the Playing XI

Good knock by Hardik as he was struggling initially. Need to keep up with the form and he will bowl in World T20 for sure. Those quick hands of Pandya with the bat will play an important role if India have to stand a chance of winning the World T20.

Hardik Pandya To Be Dropped From India’s T20 World Cup Squad; Shardul Thakur Or Shreyas Iyer To Come In As Replacements – Reports

Hardik Pandya To Be Dropped From India’s T20 World Cup Squad; Shardul Thakur Or Shreyas Iyer To Come In As Replacements – Reports. Mumbai Indians (MI) all-rounder Hardik Pandya is having serious issues with his fitness of late. He was included in MI’s line-up against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) purely as a batsman and that has once again brought up his inclusion in India’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Reports are now stating that there’s a possibility of Hardik being replaced by a couple of other options. It has long been stated by many experts that the Baroda cricketer should not make a side purely based on his batting.

Hardik Pandya’s Woes Continue
MI bowling coach Shane Bond mentioned that Hardik needed some time to get back into full match fitness and so was kept out of their team for the first two matches in the UAE. Against RCB, it was confirmed that his bowling services will not be required.

“We’re obviously balancing the needs of our team and the needs of team India as well. It’s the one thing that this franchise does really well… is look after its players with an eye not only to win this competition but an eye to the World Cup that’s coming up as well,” Bond had stated.

His role in the team is that of a finisher or an enforcer in the death overs along with giving his captain, four crucial overs with the ball. If he isn’t fit enough to bowl even in a T20 match with a lesser workload, then his spot in the side will be reconsidered.

His role in the team is that of a finisher or an enforcer in the death overs along with giving his captain, four crucial overs with the ball. If he isn’t fit enough to bowl even in a T20 match with a lesser workload, then his spot in the side will be reconsidered.

Teams have the provision of changing their T20 World Cup squads up until October 10. So if Hardik is incapable of providing four overs for the skipper, the management is likely to bring in Shardul Thakur or Shreyas Iyer, as per reports. Both of them are included in India’s reserves and might get a bump up depending on how Hardik progresses in the remainder of the IPL 2021.

India’s T20 World Cup squad
Virat Kohli (Capt), Rohit Sharma (vc), KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Rahul Chahar, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Varun Chakravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohd Shami.

Reserves: Shreyas Iyer, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar.

I won't mind him in T20s and would like to see him captain this team since he has been compared with the great Kapil Dev but that is only going to be possible if he contributes with the ball otherwise he will lose his place in the side to someone like Shardul Thakur just like tests. :inti

Didn't bat well yesterday actually, though he capitalized on Shami's poor bowling..

Pandya walks into India white ball sides as pure batsman.
He is India's best six hitter period. Performance of Pant and Pandya will determine how far India go in WT20

If theres a doctor on this forum, even he will admit, that doing any surgery for disc slip, or sciatic back or cervical pain, is totally useless and causes the opposite effect.

The second best LOI all-rounder of this era as already proved based on stats and performances vs top teams.

He will have to play a pivotal role if India stands any chance of winning the WT20 series.

It seems ICC rankings doesn't take stats and performances against Top Teams into consideration. He is not even in top 10 let alone top 2 lol. :inti

ICC rankings are based on current form. I am talking about the best all-rounders of this generation. That is decided based on stats and performances vs big teams.

Legendary former India captain Kapil Dev on Friday asked whether Hardik Pandya can be called an all-rounder given that he has not been bowling as much as the role demands. A vital cog in India's scheme of things in white-ball cricket, the flamboyant Pandya bowled in just two matches in the recent T20 World Cup where India went out in the group stage itself. He is also under fire for not revealing the extent of his several fitness issues and was dropped from the home T20 series against New Zealand, which India won 3-0.

"He has to do both the jobs to be considered an all-rounder. He is not bowling so can we call him all-rounder? Let him bowl, he has come out from the injury," Kapil said at the Royal Calcutta Golf Course in Kolkata.

"He is an extremely important batter to the country, for bowling he has to play a lot more matches, perform and bowl and then we will say," added India's first World Cup-winning captain.

Kapil also predicted that Rahul Dravid the coach will be a bigger success than the immensely accomplished Dravid the cricketer. Dravid began his new innings as the Indian team's head coach in the ongoing series against New Zealand, a post he has been given till the 2023 ODI World Cup in India.

"He's a good man, a good cricketer. He will do a better job as a coach than as a cricketer because in cricket nobody has done better than him. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed," Kapil said.

Dravid earlier served as the head of National Cricket Academy and was also the coach of India's Under-19 and A teams, nurturing several young talents who went on to represent the country with distinction.

Talking about Dravid as the chief coach, Kapil further said: "You can't just judge one after his debut, you don't go by one performance. Over a period of time, what Rahul will do, we will come to know. You only think positive."

The 62-year-old was here as the Board member of Professional Golf Tour of India that is conducting the ICC RCGC Open Golf Championship. Asked about his favourite all-rounders, Kapil named Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.

"I just go to watch cricket these days and enjoy the game. I don't see from your perspective. My job is to enjoy the sport.

"I would say Ashwin, hats off to him," he said, adding Jadeja's name. Kapil, however, rued that Jadeja's bowling has not been at its best of late. "Jadeja... What a fabulous cricketer he is, but unfortunately he improved as a batter and come down as a bowler to me.

"When he started, he was a far better bowler but now he's a far better batter. Every time India needs him, he will get runs. But he's not performing as a bowler," Kapil said.

The former India captain also hailed Shreyas Iyer for his debut century in the ongoing first Test against the Black Caps.

"When any youngster makes a hundred on debut, it means the sport is going in the right direction. We need cricketers like him. "He waited for almost four-five years to play for India. Finally he got a chance and came out with flying colours," he concluded.

Rumors are surfacing that the BCCI has decided to go ahead with the split captaincy. Hardik Pandya will be the next T20i captain.
