Is health and safety going to be an issue during cricket in COVID-19?

Joe root and his team came out with a plan to bowl short with the field and archers line and length.
After the over ended the umpires intervened and gave Root the option to either ending days play or chaning tactics where they dont bowl short, as the conditions were overcsst, pitch being wet. Making it dangerous for the batsmen

Joe root would than bowl spin before it became dark.

Now after play ended, David Loyld talked about how ICC and teams are being forced to be extra cautious and not ending up doing something that could result in injuries and result in a blame game as the teams are living in a bubble plus Pakistan is a guest team and came only after being invites by the ecb.

I think umpires shouldn't force teams to do things. If light is not good enough, just declare stumps.

Light was bad and both the commies Holding and Warne mentioned that. Umpires made the right call, Babar couldnt pick the short ball completely twice (One before the start of rain and then before umpires talking to Root) and light definitely had a role. Red ball isnt easiest to pick under bad light and gloomy conditions.

Covid or no covid, you dont want players being hit on the head just to put in few overs under bad light.

Umpires didnt force anyone. England was asked whether they want to continue with spin as conditions arent good enough for fast bowling and England agreed. England had to option to go off but Root wanted to try out a few overs.

This is an issue that pre-dates coronavirus though.

I understand the frustration of not getting play on even when bowling spinners, and having already lost overs due to rain. There's been no cricket for months and great expense staging this series.

However Bumble's point is if a fielder gets knocked silly by the ball they're struggling to sight, or even if an umpire gets hit - then ICC will be taken to court for negligence.

I don't know what the solution is except day-night Tests with the pink ball.
