Is it fair to call Joe Root a "Home Track Bully"?

No he is Englands best batsmen way ahead of the rest.
Internationally one of the current eras best.

Not sure of his captaincy though.

He plays in the flat deck era and has not faced many top quality quicks and spinners. Of the players I have seen my top six would be

Boycott
Gooch
Gower
Pietersen
Thorpe
Botham

Thorpe played against Ambrose, Walsh, Wasim, Waqar, Donald, Pollock, Warne and Murali. And he is a lefty and the most clutch England batter I saw.

The other thing about Root is the number of catches he drops. That gives away runs and reduces his contribution.

Defo first reserve though. Very close between him and Thorpe.

He is the second most all conditions batsman behind only Smith. So you can call him whatever you want but he is a champion batsman. So difficult to bat in a team of loosers like he has to do every innings.

Amongst the fab 4 he is the third best test bat and second best odi bat.

On current form he is definitely the best beating Kane by a hair's breadth.
Smiths performances have been mediocre for last two years except his comeback series so he is no. 3 the less said about Virat the better.

In Test Cricket with match winning hundreds and double hundreds in India, England, South Africa, New Zealand and Sri Lanka, he is undoubtedly among the top 5-6 greatest batsman of 21st century.

Home bully? He is one of the greatest away batsman of all time. Has match winning hundreds in all subcontinent countries, against the greatest spin bowling duo (Ashwin and Jadeja) in the second most bowling friendly era.

So after three centuries in six tests against India, Root has gone from “Joe Fifty” and “Not fit to be in the Fab Four” to “The greatest England batsman of all time” - better than Sir Jack Hobbs and Wally Hammond and Sir Len Hutton.

He is in his second purple patch and has found a way to combine captaincy with consistent run scoring. He averages 47 as captain with eleven centuries.

It will be interesting to see where experts put him in the pantheon when he finishes. I would say he needs a big series with the bat in Australia, and think he can do it.

Now England need Stokes back, and a decent opening batter. Maybe Hameed can fill that roll.

Root has less than 40 average in just 2 countries (not counting Bangladesh), and 50+ average in everywhere else. And even then, he average 38 and 39 in Aus and NZ respectively.

A batsman with 50+ average in India, SA, UAE, SL and WI is anything but an away bully.
