Umar Akmal has not been included in the PCB Players Central Contracts 2017-2018.

He did not even make the D category and was excluded out of the list of 35.

None of the Akmal brothers made the list.

Great job by PCB. None of these Akmal brothers has any future.

He doesn't even seem to be bothered to try and get back into the team these days.

link?

Good stuff though

Hopefully Wahab and Shehzad didnt make past D

this is good/

although these days players care less for these contracts due to PSL.

Dunno if I agree with this. He's still part of future plans, think it'd be naive to not think so. Still fairly young, talented, with international experience. On the other hand is it right to give a player a contract even if he can't meet fitness standards. Fitness is his own responsibility.

I would probably have had him included on the provision that he improves his fitness. The moment his fitness is deemed good enough and he passes the fitness tests, he gets the contract. Gives him something to strive for. If his fitness improves to the point where he passes the fitness test, difficult to argue he doesn't deserve a C contract given the names on that list.

We still have a lack of players like him in ODIs. In fact we have no mid/lower batsmen for the future, Hafeez and Malik on their last legs most likely. Sarfraz is good, but he needs support. He's one of the few hard hitting batsmen, who easily rotates strike, we don't have many players in that mold.

It's funny umar akmal used to be pretty fit, and was one of the best fielders (for a period considered the best) in our side.

If only this was announced on This Sunday it would have been another Eid

Umar is a great fielder and I always back Umar as a fielder but he has to improve on his batting big time

No argument that he doesn't deserve a place.
But yes we can use this thread to talk about why xyz player has it and he doesn't

But but but what about aggression and explosion :danish :danish

That Umar Akmal CT fiasco was really embarrassing for the PCB. Seems corrective action has been taken

But I've learned to never count out the Akmals. We haven't seen the last of them

Well its good that they did this. But they were more mistakes made in the list of central contracts than positive moves.

Been ages since he did anything relevant with the bat. He has gotten worse. Didn't deserve a central contract.

What he should be awarded is a weighing scales and asked to get on it and check everyday :rp

Cat A contract to Hafeez and Malik shows, there is no way to get rid of below average seniors any time soon. One step forward two step backward

Hasan and Babar should be in Cat A, they along with Amir are the only one, who can play all three formats...

Nobody has actually mentioned that Sohail Khan is also axed from central contracts. That is a bigger surprise, he took several 5 wicket accoladtes in Tests and batted better than Shan Masoodsz.

Someone get junior a big box of bottled water so we he can stay far away from the team for years to come.

Best decision ever, if there was an option on the poll: 'heck yeah, absolutely brilliant decision to leave UA out', I would have voted with that!

I wish they had left out Wahab, Ahmed Shehzad, Hafeed and even Shan Masood (let him work on his technique with his famiuly money), I would be over the moon! Those 4 spots could have gone to deserving youngsters instead

No form, no discipline, no lessons learnt.

Correct decision. He's been lucky in the past to get a contract.

I would say its like a slap on the wrist. He should be investigated for his inclusion in CT squad plus all previous matches in which he throws his wicket or play slowly.

I recently learnt that he is not even at the NCA Camp, citing a knee injury. Apparently, he is currently undergoing "rehabilitation" with his PT in England for five weeks.

Really hope he harnesses his talent, but his track record does not give me any hope...

I swear we'll be hearing this excuse even when he reaches 40.

No doubt lol, but that doesn't change things at the moment. Bear in mind also we have only one cemented opener in Fakhar in LOI (and he did it just a few games ago), and one cemented opener in tests in Azhar. Hence we're not sure exactly who will open for us, hence Shehzad inevitably will be amongst the names. In fact I can't think of any other opening competition atm except for Azhar, Fakhar, Sami Aslam and Shehzad. And usually in a squad you pick two openers and a third back up opener. Hence it wouldn't be so unlikely Shehzad would be picked for the squad (particularly in tests and players who could be picked for the squad really deserve category C.

I'd probably promote Babar in LOI (or even Haris) to partner Fakhar and be done with it, and play Sami or Fakhar in tests (leaning to the fomer) to partner Azhar. In terms of actual openers I only rate Azhar and Sami in tests, and Fakhar in ODIs. I'm not sure Fakhar will succeed in tests, don't mind giving him ago, but might be in our best interests for him to focus on LOI for now. It's not like we have massive amount of choices in the opening department (or batting in general) and until that changes Shehzad will probably be in contention as he keeps performing in domestic and stuff like BPL, PSL etc.

Sorry for the rookie kind of question but what's the point of getting a central contract. Which benefits do players qith a central contract have?

Bravest decision by the PCB in recent times. Sends out a strong à message. Must be on the coaches advice.

their is no possible logic to award him a contract

1) what had UA done for Pakistan in the next year
2) after the embarrassment in CT, does anyone have any expectation from UA in the next year

maybe if he shows promise in domestic in 2017, he can get a contract in 2018

Umar himself to blame. Both umar and kamran took advantage in the past. It seems like he does not want to work hard to get back in the team.

Akmal brothers really disappointed entire country.

Yes. Pakistan invested much more on Akmal than any other player including Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq... Look where they are and look where he is. Him and Shehzad need to be dumped for good, they are bad for Pak cricket and bad for team culture with their social media shenanigans.

I think the main point behind this is to give Umar Akmal a kick up the backside.

Both him and Ahmed Shehzad are two of the most talented batsmen in Pakistan and i think there is no debate about this. Unfortunately though neither has any akhaal to back it up!

Employees get laid off when they underperform for a long period of time. A pathetic attitude doesn't help them either.

Great job by the PCB. :salute

I think, he is really struggling with his knees now. He is into his late 20s and at least 15 kg over weight for his height (91kg😫), and eventually his knees have given up. His weight ratio is like weight lifters or wrestlers, but they don't need to run like a cricketer or frequently turn on their heels while running. Might not make a comeback before WC

Its a bad decision but also the likes of Shehzad and Shan Masood being contracted does not make much sense.

a fine talent destroyed by misbah defensive culture but ultimately you have to be responsible for your own career. umar sadly was not intelligent enough. his career is over and i don't see him making a come back. we have many new players coming through.

i have been a strong supporter of umar akmal for a long time... unfortunately he hasn't lived up to the expectations at all ... and add to that his work ethics and commitment issues ... his lack of effort in trying to improve has made me loose confidence in him... i think him losing the contract will either make him work hard to improve or he will be a forgotten no body ... in either case there is no other alternative ... i hope he takes it as a lesson and improves instead of whining and crying and doing himself no favors.

don't know about shan masood's work ethics but shezad also deserves a wake up call... i thought he should have been discarded for not buying into the team first culture

the problem is even if he comeback with a bang after a year or two.. he will go back and rest on his laurels after 10 games of good to avg performance. and there the cycle starts again...same with shehzad, wahab and hafeez... highly inconsistent cricketers who cost the team a space and victories..

Exactly, I am roughly 180 lbs 82 kgs and almost 5' 11'', he is what 5' 5'' or something, even discounting he is an professional cricketer, he still looks like a bull dozer now than anything else LOL

I am almost similar in height, but a bit lighter. And, he is younger to me as well. If he doesn't control it now, forget cricket, even in his personal life, by 40s, he'll become Adnan Sami - at least he can't stop drinking water. Such a wastage of God gifted talent - I hope 10 years later, nostalgia doesn't cost his sleep - thinking what & where he could have raised and where he has finished eventually.

Yes.. because.. previous years.. he was awarded the CC but he couldn't even maintain his fitness. Plain ridiculous

do you even have to ask? a kick to the curb is just what Umar Akmal may need to finally come to his senses & grow up. For instance, a long-spell out of the pakistan team worked wonders for Shoaib Malik's game & his hunger to perform.

Umar Akmal got out

He's had things his way quite often in the past.

He needs to see a few home truths and then we wil see what he is made of.

Has he got the desire and heart to become disciplined and workhis way back into the international set up or will he just waste his talent and disappear into the wilderness.

He has played so many incredible innings for Pakistan that it saddens me to see old footage and his out of this world cut shots and lofted over cover drives

Amazing decision, best decision we've made in years. Finally, no more Akmal brothers!!!

Once in a while he would play a decent innings.

No consistency and more often than not he would not perform.

agreed but hes one of the very few we have that gave you hope( mostly deluded but still) that he could turn it around. More often than not with people like Rizwan and Amin, they never inspire that true ability based confidence.

I vaguely remember a few years back how our late night ODI games vs Sri Lanka in UAE. he would come out and just start belting fours and on ocassion take us to victory all by himself.

His pathetic attitude does not help at all..
