A player at his position should be having a SR of 120 like Butter has.

That's after making it up at the end of every innings by hitting few boundaries .

The greatest example of stat padding. That's why I take batting average with a grain of salt now. I prefer mean over average, since it's very easy to remain not out coming in after 40th over playing risk free cricket. He is a finisher who doesn't take risk, lol

He should have retired after 2015 WC, but it's indian cricket he is a superstar and has lot of money riding on him so has played 4-5 years past his expiry date.

His average will dip below 50 now. He was averaging 52+ in Sept'17.

His average will never ever drop. With not outs, he will ensure his average remains 50+, even if it means screwing the team which he has been doing. That SL series in SL last year was when he should have quit. Had a great series, we won. Since then he's been totally pits. ANd the average of 30 does not tell the full story. Analysis of each of his innings will tell us how royally he's killed momentum in innings each time he's come out to bat.

Shamelessly blocking a youngster's place & losing all respect. spineless Selectorts, coach & captain kohli himself are equally responsible for creating this situation. On merit he doesn't deserve a selection.

On the other hand Just a day ago bravo takes retirement from international cricket saying he doesn't want to block youngster's place.

Team management need to be strict with dhoni. If he is playing as specialist wk then he should bat at no.7 or 8 in company of tailenders instead of batting at no.5 and hurting the momentum of the innings and putting pressure on youngsters to score quickly instead of doing the same thing himself.

He keeps his SR acceptable by whacking the ball in last 2-3 overs. His SR is close to 50 for the first 20 delivery he faces. Completely destroys all momentum setup by top order. I have rarely seen a batsman actively trying to harm the batting lineup. Sloggers like Afridi who used to get flack at least got out cheaply trying to slog. Dhoni eats up all the balls to prevent slogging from the other end as well. Not only he tries to lose the match by himself, he makes sure his partner can't do anything as well. It's hard to describe just how much he is holding India back.

Dhoni is going to get humiliated at the World Cup in England next year if he hangs on. For the good of the team he should just call it quits now. All batsmen eventually lose it at the top level - whether it’s their hand eye coordination, fitness, strength, something just goes - even the very best face this. Surely Dhoni must realise this!

Do you think it's dhonis call? It's a business Dhoni has huge money riding on him, he will play 2019 WC and then retire. The system is corrupt and Dhoni is part of the system.

I am struggling to remember when was the last time he scored for india

He wont play the world cup and pretty sure this will be his last series. He is contesting 2019 elections for BJP anyway, so cant continue cricket and politics together. He should hv retired after 2015 WC. Its a shame that such a legendary player who won us everything, have to be booted out. But somehow its his own fault and he deserves it.

While removing Dravid/Ganguly/VVS from ODI team in 2008, he said "We all are servants of India and doing national duty". Now 10 years later, Karma strikes.

It's easy to kick others out when they are old, but hard to call it a day yourself in Asian culture. I don't remember one legend calling it a day earlier they should have like abd or even cook.

He's still the best wicket keeper batsman in India. He Should continue as long as he thinks he's fit enough. He is selfless enough to know what is the right time to hang up his boots.

Test and T20 career done
ODI left I think if he fails in Australia that should be the end

5th ODI vs WI should be his farewell match. Kohli has to put his foot down and send him the direct message.

Pant may struggle and fail, we may have to try some others as well, all that is fine. With Dhoni, we are not winning the WC for sure. With him gone, our chances will go up by a few notches.

Calling it right now that Dhoni is going to bat very well in the WC and will contribute to India's wins. I don't know if India will lift the trophy or not but Dhoni's bat will do the talking.

LOL

"It's been a long cherished dream of Dhoni - since he gave up the captaincy in white ball cricket - to play in the World Cup next year where he would be more as a mentor to the team. His idea was to give Kohli time to develop in this role and there is still no change in his thinking," Pandey told Gulf News.

Dhoni even in his prime was average in wc's, barring a final where he played a good innings he has done nothing of note in wc's, now that he is worse than ever before you think he will perform well.

MS Dhoni Takes Dig At Retirement Rumours With Cheeky Gesture

MS Dhoni was rumoured to retire from limited-overs cricket by social media fans after the India-England One-day International (ODI) series last year. The rumour broke out after MS Dhoni carried the match ball to the dressing room. However, after the just-concluded India's ODI series against Australia, MS Dhoni made sure nobody spreads such rumours by handing over the match ball to batting coach Sanjay Bangar. After handing the ball to Sanjay Bangar, MS Dhoni said, "Ball lelo nahi to bolega retirement lerahe ho."

In the series, Dhoni also proved he can still finish matches for India by playing two consecutive match-winning knocks in India's first bilateral ODI series triumph in Australia.

Dhoni also notched up three consecutive half-centuries in the series against Australia and was adjudged the Man of the Series for his brilliant performances.

However Dhoni, who remained not out on 87 runs in the third and final ODI to help India clinch the series 2-1, said it was not about where he batted after playing for 14 years.

A veteran of 335 ODIs, the 37-year-old's next assignment will start from Wednesday in New Zealand, when India play New Zealand in the first of five-match ODI series at the McLean Park in Napier.

Dhoni averages over 50 in the ODIs with the highest score of an unbeaten 183 runs. He has 10 centuries and 70 half-centuries under his belt in this format.

Dhoni has also been crucial behind the stumps, over the years, taking 311 catches and stumping 117 times in ODIs.

Looks like Dhoni is the only thing separating india from another world cup victory, according to the potato chip fans.

DHoni fans are blind bhakts. They seriously lack basic cricket understanding. Blind worship. Ask them when was the last time he won a T20 match for India. You could back to 2007. They could still not come up with something. Even Dinesh karthik has won two T20 man of the matches. Dhoni none. All his showffs are in the IPL. I don't blame him for not clicking in T20. Because ever since he became India's captain he started adopting percentage cricket. Basically take 10 or 15 overs and explode in the last few overs. That won't work in T20. Now even in ODIs he can't finish big.

No matter how many Pants, Rahuls, Rayudus, Gills, Iyers, Pandyas you add to this middle order, you aren't winning this WC without thala's presence. Thala Dhoni is simply irreplaceable! All these superstar hacks are good for hitting some fancy fours and sixes but finishing a game successfully is a thing of greats and these bachas can never be able to replace him, period! Thala Dhoni ku whistle podu!!!

Jadhav and Dhoni both are fine. So is Pandya.

Issue is no. 4 position currently for India. Pant should have been given more matches. He is good as well.

Still got it.

What an effort right now.

Ultimate finisher/chaser.

What a serial match loser this guy is?

He hasn't won even half the games that he lost for us.

I'm amazed this is still a question. Would be the most shameless thing if he still continues.

He has been one of our greatest, but surely this isn't even a question anymore.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly has once again expressed his thoughts regarding MS Dhoni's future.

Speaking to ANI, Ganguly claimed that the veteran wicketkeeper-batsman knows what is best for him and it is up to him when he will decided to retire from the game.

"It is up to him, with so much of experience, I am sure he knows what's best for him," Ganguly said.

Ever since India's semi-final exit from the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 against New Zealand in August, MSD made himself unavailable for selection. During his break from cricket, the 38-year-old also served for the Indian Army too.

After being absent from the Indian squad which took on West Indies and South Africa in the past months, Dhoni also backed out from the Bangladesh and Windies series as well.

Talking about India and Pakistan's bi-lateral cricketing ties, Ganguly said: "It is a government decision, playing Pakistan depends on the government".

The former Team India skipper also expressed his thoughts regarding the Indian Premier League (IPL) players' auction, which took place in Kolkata on Thursday (December 19).

"It's a huge platform for everyone, be it seniors or juniors. It is the biggest league in the world, every stadium is jam-packed. It has become its own brand, cricket has taken over. You can see that cricket has become so exciting and in the end, the tournament will remain," Ganguly said.

"Umpires can make mistakes, everyone does. That's why we have a new system in place where the no-balls will be monitored from outside and that will help solve the problem," he added.

MS Dhoni never used business class, preferred to sit with TV crew: Sunil Gavaskar

Former India opener Sunil Gavaskar revealed an interesting episode related to MS Dhoni, where he never used business class seats and rather preferred to sit with TV crew during domestic flights.

MS Dhoni revolutionised Indian cricket with his tactical acumen, ability to stay calm in pressure situations and handle youngsters with finesse. Thus, he reaped rewards for this and led India to all major ICC titles -- 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy.

Regarded as Captain Cool on the field, Dhoni is also known to be a private person and for his humility. Time and again, Dhoni has shown his humble nature on and off the 22-yard circle.

Recently, former Indian opener and original Little Master Sunil Gavaskar revealed an interesting episode, depicting Dhoni's selfless deed.
MS Dhoni hardly ever sat in business class, he sat with real champs of the TV coverage, cameramen and sound engineers

Gavaskar wrote in his column for Mid-Day, "The Indian team has a lovely system of rewarding its players especially in home matches. As most Indian cricket followers know, during the Indian domestic international season, both teams travel in a special chartered flight from one venue to the next."

Gavaskar further stated, "The flight also carries the technical TV crew who have to rig the cables for the next game. There are limited seats in business class and the captains, coaches and managers of the teams get these.

It is here that those Indian players, who have done well in their previous game, get to sit there as a reward rather than the economy class behind.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni hardly ever sat in business class on these flights even when he was the skipper as he would prefer to sit with the real champs of the TV coverage, the cameramen and the sound engineers," added the former batting legend.

Virat Kohli following MS Dhoni's footsteps

Gavaskar also lauded Indian skipper Virat Kohli for rightly following his predecessor Dhoni's footsteps in such regards.

He wrote, "Virat Kohli has also sat in the economy sector to give his seat to the bowlers who had bowled India to a win in a just-concluded match (during the 2018-19 Border-Gavaskar Trophy Down Under). These are simple gestures but they go a long way in building team spirit."

Given Dhoni's nature on and off the field, he is rightly regarded as one of the best things which happened to Indian cricket during their golden phase in the early 2000s. The 38-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman was last seen in action during the 2019 World Cup and was set to comeback in IPL 2020 before the COVID-19 crisis increased globally.

“I rate Dhoni a bit higher than Ponting as he developed a new team full of youngsters,” says Shahid Afridi in response to a question on Twitter

Hailing India's most successful captain Dhoni for respecting the players from the past, Binny said he is extremely down-to-earth and would come and tell you what he wants.

Former India skipper MS Dhoni – who turned 39 last month – is set to make a comeback to cricket after a year and a half in the upcoming season of the IPL in UAE, but former BCCI selector Roger Binny feels the legend is past his prime and should make way for youngsters. He also felt that he is not as effective as a finisher as he used to be and has lost a bit of his fitness.

“Seeing him the last couple of seasons, he (MS Dhoni) is past the best cricket of his and what he’s capable of doing – turning around matches from losing positions, with sheer intelligence and power. And the way he motivated his players too,” Binny told SportsKeeda in an interview. “He’s lost a bit of fitness and there are younger players coming through the system. He’s past his best really, and he would be the right judge for that.”

Hailing India’s most successful captain Dhoni for respecting the players from the past, Binny said he is extremely down-to-earth and would come and tell you what he wants.

“One thing we admired MS Dhoni for was that he had great respect for past cricketers. He was a very down-to-earth person and had a lot of respect and time for cricketers. He’d come and discuss with you and tell you what he wanted,” Binny stated.

He also stated that it is great to work with him.

“He was the man on the field and we had to give him what he wanted but he wouldn’t demand it. He’d speak with the Chairman and the selectors and we didn’t have any arguments or fights. It was excellent to work with him,” he concluded.
