Physique: 5' 8" ajit agarkarish height. very strong upper body. strong core. very strong shoulder and neck muscles. Long Levers (extra long wingspan).

Bowling impressions: Relaxed easy run up. whippy action. generates deceptive pace, seam & movement. skiddy and seem faster than he actually is.

Is is a 350+ test wkts taker & 350+ ODI wkts taker. I think so. hopefully, doesnt succumb to injuries like Bishop.

@ 24 yrs of age. He has gotten a very good start. He must stay injury free btw 25-30 yrs of age.

He is 15 more 5'fers in Tests away & 3 more 5'fers in ODIs away from becoming next all-time great.

It will be a pleasure to see another Steyn make his way through.

As Pakistan already lost future Steyn in Aamer, World cricket cannot afford another loss in Roach.

We'll wait & see if he is just a flash in the pan or real deal.

He has got a long way to go, but with his talent and work ethic during the match I think he will make it.

I thought he was much bigger than 5'8''. His long arms certainly fooled me.

Long long way to go for him to achieve greatness. Decent bowler though

probably not, but he's the best we've seen since walsh and ambrose, he'll have a decent career.

Kemar Roach, Peter Siddle. Two of my favourite fast bowlers. They make test cricket worth watching.

Wisely, Windies aren't playing him in T20. Keeping him fresh for Tests and some ODIs. I dont know if he will reach 350 test wickets. But he will certainly reach 250. Provided he doesnt get injured and Windies play more tests.

He is a hard trier, but he is a bit like Gul.

He will have some good days, some average ones and some poor.

Lol dont compare him to Gul. I saw Roach take a fifer in Sri Lanka. Gul > Roach in T20 and Odi. But no comparison in Tests. I like Gul for his hard work but honestly Roach overall >>> Gul. Besides, Windies dont have any pacy pitches for him to get home advantage. Barbados has died down remarkably. Jamaica has become a spinner's delight

Roach made Ponting look like a joke in Australia a while back and thats when I had to sit up and notice this kid. He certainly has been very good for West Indies but I feel Rampaul is one guy who is really under rated and under estimated. The way he has been performing for the West Indies, I think he rates about as high as Roach.

41.1
Roach to Ponting, no run, jumps back and across and defends to mid on, he looks in real bother here
41.2
Roach to Ponting, FOUR, Spoke too soon as he gets inside of one and plays it to long leg - don't underestimate a wounded champion
41.3
Roach to Ponting, SIX, short and he takes him on hooking it into the crowd at long leg, right where Doug Walters hit Bob Willis in 1974 to bring up his 100 in that memorable Ashes Test match!!
41.4
Roach to Ponting, no run, defends off the back foot to mid on, looking a bit uncomfortable
41.5
Roach to Ponting, FOUR, goes back a gets it away off his hip to long leg, 464 so far in this over - great viewing here - the young bull versus the old bull
41.6
Roach to Ponting, no run, leaves outside off, no need to wave at that one outside off

Ponting was batiing with a broken rib and this is Roach making him look like a joke.

I would suggest you edit that post whilst you still can, gengiskhan. Using the sort of words you used in that post is not endorsed here.

But yes, he is a very fine bowler and barring any injuries, he will become a memorable fast bowler for the Windies.

Averages 51 in Australia, hope he comes back so the Australian batsmen can feast on him again.

He has had his moments but no way will he become a great as far as I can see. Far from it.

And Roach gets a wicket every 50 runs.

I see where you are going. Roach is no finished product for sure.

BUT

This is not '80s Test cricket. 225-250 runs in Day 1. at 2.0-2.5 RPO.

This is modern day '00 decade Test cricket. 400+ runs in Day 1. at 4+ RPO

AUS taught the world to score 4+ RPO in Test. IND & SA followed in whole '00 decade.

In Roach's defense, Yesteryears greats like Imran, Wasim, Pollock, Walsh will all go for 40+ runs/wks against #1 side like AUS.

no shame in it.

The only bowling greats I see ave < 40 runs/wkts against AUS are very few.

Waqar, Marshall, Amrbrose at their very best.

I just started this thread yesterday & Roach is at it again hitting on all cylinders.

Roach takes career's 2nd ODI 5'fer against B'Desh

9-0-56-5 @ 6.22

Roach silences 22,000 B'deshi in a stunning 2nd over - 4,4,W

Guys...watch it closely. Roach is clearly not a finished product yet.

1st delivery: Bad. too short of length & wide. FOUR

2nd delivery:Bad. short again. but no width offered. FOUR

3nd delivery:Excellent. fuller length. No width. faster leg cutter. WICKET

Roach has been very poor at times as well.

He is a rhythm bowler, when on song he looks great but he also seems to be at sea at times when things don't go for him.

He will be a good bowler but certainly not even close to being a great at this stage.

his stats doesn't suggest say so,

With 81 wickets in 21 matches with an average of 27.5

tell me how many bowlers averaging under 28 over 20 matches these days?????????

7 matches in 2012 with 39 wickets with an average of 22.25, this new Roach is with more intensity, desire, aggression, maturity, pace, control and lethal #FutureGreat

This year 2012

Roach>Morkel
Roach>Anderson
Roach>Finn
Roach>Steyn
Roach>Junaid Khan
Roach>Board

Probably my second best fast bowler to watch after Steyn. Massive fan of Roach, highly underrated.

Well in the summer just gone in the Caribbean he was bowling lots of no balls, was not getting the ball consistently in the right place at all in one of the matches, maybe it was against NZ. For one of a better expression he does spray the ball occasionally.
Still he is a wicket taker, not disputing that at all.
Just I am not convinced at all he is a future great, not right now anyway.

The thing is that he taking wickets with good economy rate (3.25)

I agree with shah_1. He has his off days. But when he is good, he is lethal. And he is quality because his good days are more in number than his off days.

I dont know about legend. But he is definitely on the path to be regarded as a very good fast bowler. If he gets the proper support from other pacers such as Rampaul, Tino Best, he could win Windies some tests against top nations as well.

Right now. I think he has become a very good bowler.

Despite mind blowing performance in year 2012. He is equal to Steyns as the two best fast bowlers in the world. As Steyns has slightly declined this year.

today, he had career's 3rd ODI 5'fer against B'desh & he is yet to hit his prime years 25-30 yrs.

Can he become a 300+ wkts bowler in both formats? only time will tell.

I anticipate that this thread will soon be followed by a thread asking "Is Roach the most over rated cricketer ever.":kakmal

Roach has been unlucky with so many dropped catches off his bowling.

He's been bowling wider from the crease than he was before his 2014 accident and his pace is also down to the low to mid 80s.

However he's got some swing and has bowled with much better accuracy and control in this Test. Just would like to see him bowl closer to the stumps.

very happy for him.west indies need a pacer like him in the mix of others...great comeback so far.

Consistently bowling in good areas and bringing in all the aspects of dismissals into play was key, says Windies paceman.

After picking up his "surprising" five-wicket haul against Bangladesh on Wednesday, 4 July, Kemar Roach, the Windies paceman, said he was delighted to put his team in a good position in the first Test in Antigua.

Roach led the bowling attack with his exceptional 5/8 from just five overs as Bangladesh plummeted to their lowest Test score of 43 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

“Obviously it felt good. It came pretty rapid," Roach said, after the opening day. "It was a bit surprising. Obviously to go out there and perform for West Indies is the main goal. To do that today and put West Indies in a good position, I'm happy with that.”

Roach gave credit to Corey Collymore, the Windies bowling coach, for his improved performance. “I've been doing a lot of work with my bowling coach Corey Collymore," he said. "I think he's done a great job with me when he came on board."

With not much of an experience of bowling in North Sound, Roach explained that the advice of Alzarri Joseph, the local Windies bowler, worked for him.

"My rhythm today was fantastic; the ball came out just the way I wanted to.

"I haven't played much here, but I've been talking to one of the guys, Alzarri Joseph, he's from here. He told me that the wicket's always a good batting wicket, but what's important is to bowl in good areas if you want to get some rewards, so today was just that for me.

“I try to use the angles as much as possible. I tried to bring in all three aspects of dismissals into play: lbw, bowled, and caught. I just wanted to be as consistent as possible, make a batsman play as much as possible and, obviously play on the mistake.”

During his spell, Roach struggled with a hamstring niggle, which he revealed wasn't a serious one.

"I felt like something's there in my hamstring," he said. "It got worse as I went on; just tweaked it a little bit while running in ... It's not so serious so far. I pulled out of the innings to get some treatment.

"It's quite early but I'm feeling pretty good about bowling in the second innings again.”

The Windies finished the day on a 201/2, and according to Roach 450-500 runs on the board would put his side in a winning position.

“The plan is bat once, to get 450-500 runs on the board. I think it's going to be tough for the Bangladeshis to get. Once we bat and score that much, it'll be fine to win this Test match.”

He is not better than an ordinary bowler, has been around for long time and was not able to cement his place in this weak WI team. He is performing well lately against some very weak batting line ups, particularly BD. He is short and he is no Malcolm Marshall.

Bowling superbly since his comeback in westindies team. Excellent with new ball.

well he is such a talented bowler there is no doubt but cant say anything about ATG as there is a lot of politics in WICB, look what they have done to Darren Bravo, its sad.

He seems to be scaring the heck out of Pakistan batsmen in 2021!

He's a dangerous and accomplished Test bowler on home turf, as we are seeing today, but his averages on foreign soil are pretty dismal. Not close to an ATG.

Roach is a very underrated bowler and looks like a hard working cricketer. Seales and Roach make a solid bowling pair. Not an ATG though.

Above average at best. Not even a West Indian great, let alone ATG. West Indies B team had better bowlers than Roach in 70s and 80s
