Is "Lollywood" on its deathbed?

India has a better film industry because its industry existed before the partition.

Pakistan's film industry took a fresh start in 1947, and during the 1970s, we produced top class movies that were on par with Indian movies.
Perhaps you've heard of Waheed Murad.

Actually that’s not true Lahore had an industry before, Many actors actually migrated from the Lahore one to Bombay Hindi one during 1940s.

Also please remember India just doesn’t have a film industry in Bombay, Hyderabad Chennai , Kochi all have a history of churning out many films.

Majority post partition filmmakers were actually Bengali.

India benefits from a huge pool of technicians and movie going audience from Malayalam to even Bhojpuri.

Heck even the Indian Punjabi one produces more movies nowadays than Pakistani one.

South Indian cinema which comprises of 4 languages in combined boxoffice numbers is actually way ahead of Mumbai one.

I have , I also know that Baghban is a scene to scene copy of a Pakistani one.

Classic South Asian movies were my passion in college , I read as much as i could about them and influence of socialism /communism (IPTA) on Indian filmmakers

On the second day of Eid, I went to the cinema to watch a movie. I watched the Pakistani movie 'Daghabaaz Dil' To be honest, it was full of entertainment and drama. Highly recommended.

Days-old body of actress Humaira Asghar found in Karachi flat

The body of a woman, believed to be that of model and actress Humaira Asghar, was discovered in a flat located in Ittehad Commercial, DHA Phase 6 area of Karachi.

According to police officials, the woman had been living alone in the apartment for the past seven years. She had rented the flat in 2018 but reportedly stopped paying rent in 2024. Due to non-payment, the landlord filed a legal case with the Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC).

On Tuesday, a court-appointed bailiff arrived to execute orders related to the case and discovered the woman’s decomposing body inside the flat. Rescue teams later shifted the body to Jinnah Hospital, where a postmortem will be conducted. Police say the woman appeared to be between 30 and 35 years of age.

Possible identity

Area residents told authorities that the deceased was Humaira Asghar, a model and actress who had kept a low profile in recent years. However, the body was several days old, making visual identification impossible.

"Identification will only be confirmed after DNA testing," said the SSP South, adding that no close relatives have come forward so far to claim the body.

Preliminary findings suggest natural death

Police and investigative officials say that initial evidence does not point to foul play, and the incident is being treated as a possible case of natural death. However, the exact cause will only be confirmed after postmortem and forensic analysis.

“The flat has been sealed, and further investigation is underway,” the SSP confirmed.

Mobile phone recovered

According to police officials, a mobile phone found in the room is registered under the name Humaira Asghar, and evidence suggests the flat was rented by actress Humaira Asghar. A magazine containing her photographs was also recovered from the apartment.

To confirm the identity, police have requested national identity card records linked to the mobile SIM registered in her name. Officials said, "More details will emerge once the CNIC records are received."

Landlord-tenant dispute

Investigators revealed that there had been a dispute between the landlord and the tenant, which led the landlord to file a case in court seeking eviction. On court orders, a bailiff was dispatched to vacate the property. “When the bailiff entered the flat, he discovered the woman’s body inside,” police said.

Following the discovery, the bailiff re-sealed the premises, and the matter has been referred back to the court. Further action will be taken based on the judge's orders expected tomorrow, police added.

Sad stuff.
Too young to die from natural causes. Could be foul play.

Mahira to play Fawad Khan's muse in 'Neelofar' slated for release on 28th

KARACHI (Web Desk) - Fawad Khan is set to star alongside actress Mahira Khan in their long-awaited film ‘Neelofar,’ with the latter playing his muse in the movie that reunites the couple after three long years.

The duo is anticipated to create magic with their on-screen chemistry in the romantic drama movie, Neelofar, which is set for worldwide release on November 28.

Khan and Mahira this week spoke with the media on the sidelines of an event in Karachi, where they shared insights from Neelofar.

“It’s a story of a writer who is hit a block and he keeps coming to Lahore and on one such visit, he bumps into the most unlikely muse,” said Khan, who plays the role of a writer.

“I’m telling you a little bit of the story, but what are the odds that he’s going to bump into a woman out of what relation or what coincidence would he bump into a woman who’s visually impaired. And then it turns into this unbelievable romance.”
During the conversation, Mahira opened up about her role as Neelofar, saying the visually impaired woman, who is curious about things at the same time, “wants to do everything.”

“There is a part of her that’s so brave, that’s so curious, like, I almost want to be Neelofar. I feel very attached to Neelofar,” she said.

So, yeah, that curiosity, you know, that I want to experience this and I want to experience that. And the people that she chooses is very interesting.”

In Humsafar, Khan recalled, he and Mahira were like two completely lost souls.

“[In ‘Neelofar’], it’s as if these two wandering souls are actually being brought together by fate because they know that they are meant for each other,” he said, describing the movie as “an ode to Lahore.”

Pakistani movies I have watched and liked:

Khuda ke liye
Motorcycle girl (okay movie but story was good)
Teefa in trouble (I know, but it was fun in the cinema)

This list ends pretty quick, haven’t watched enough to find many good ones. I didn’t go and watch Waar or Maula Jatt because I felt those movies would be too violent for me.

all of these are good. Maula Jutt and War aren't too violent but it depends on your threshold.

Laal Kabootar is a good film. It has some violence so it depends on what you think, but it is not a violent movie.

I watched Mah e meer too it wasn’t a completely finished execution of the idea but i definitely appreciated their attempt. Muhabbatan sachian was also good.
