Is Mohammad Hafeez peaking too early before the T20I World Cup?

Haha we have been waiting for his real peaking for years and here he goes. Seriously - calling him a senior player is laughable. I dont know why we stick with crappy players for so long. Just hot and cold.

I said already that if he is still playing cricket then Sanga should bring out his kit and start batting because I am sure Sanga at 46 is a much better batsmen than this imposter.

No point of his bowling, when he can't score any runs.

He is well past it, but will the management see it?

Unfortunately, I don't think they will.

Well past it? ;-) You make it sound like at his peak he was regularly scoring 100s and winning matches when faced with pressure situations - the sad fact is he is a ‘never has been’ as a batsman… and at the age the 40 I’m having doubts he ever ‘will be’ either.

Lack of game plan is where Misbah and Co. Are responsible. Apart from the openers no other player knows their game plan and gives away their wickets so cheaply. That's why pakistan should never Bat second.

Nothing to worry about. Player of his calibre know how to take the game a few notches up in world events.

And frankly, when you have as long and storied a career as Hafeez, your career graph would have multiple peaks.

Hafeez living up to expectations, gone missing when the pressure is on.

Definitely loads of local maxima for Hafeez the batsman, but that's not necessarily a good thing judging by the entire trajectory, haha.

Also, it's quite surprising to see how often Hafeez gets dismissed to innocuous off-spin in recent times, considering that used to be one of his best strengths.

Indeed I suppose that is the one consolation, knowing how successful as a batsman Hafeez has been in world events - like that match winning 145 v Australia at Perth some years ago when the team were 20-4 chasing.

The 124 v South Africa at Joburg in the T20 semi final before that was my favourite though, out of the many great innings he’s played on world stage.

By the way, you are also talking about Hafeez’s batting at ICC tournaments in the Don Bradman cricket game on PS4 or did you mean the Cricket 19 game ?

He has played more cricket than he ever deserved. He is not superman and at 42 not much should be expected from him, better be replaced by some youngster, but not the fat one.

I think he peaked about 4 years ago, he looks like he is over the hill now. Was actually a very decent hitter for Pakistan, but could be dangerous picking him for major tournaments if his reflexes are going.

Professor needs to squeeze in few overs especially when Rauf is expected to be hit all around the ground.

He was supposed to be a good player of spin and was outstanding for a period. With age one would expect reflexes to go down but, ability to play spin going down is a bit weird.

Hafeez getting out to spinners in last 3 months in T20Is:

1st T20 vs SA; T Shamsi gets him
2nd T20 vs SA; G Linde gets him
(Didnt bat in 4th T20 vs SA)
4th T20 vs SA; Shamsi gets him

1st T20 vs Zim; N Madhevere gets him (SLA)
2nd T20 vs Zim; R Burl gets him (Part time leg spin)
(Didnt bat in 3rd T20 vs Zim)

2nd T20 vs Eng; M Ali gets him

Have gone out to spinners 6 times in last 7 innings he has batted in.

Thats pretty odd stuff, considering his usual skillset against spin. Still looks okay against pace but, havent been able to establish his dominance against spin for sometime now.

This is not odd stuff , it’s typical Hafeez , with the slight bit of pressure he goes missing .

Even in the 2019 World Cup he gave his wicket away to spinners , when the pressure was on at the back end of the tournament.

Mentally weak , proven failure at the top level . Should really not be afforded another World Cup .

I think we can say that he is not peaking.

How exactly is he going to help Pakistan in Wt20 for us?

Legendary batsman of our times , no doubt but disappointing to see a batsman who has played some of the greatest innings by any Pakistani batsman , get out with such cheap shots — not something we are accustomed to seeing from top tier batsmen like Hafeez.

Rashid bowled a drag down and should have been hit for six but he bowled nicely to the left handers

Hafeez has been the same throughout his career. He plays best when he has to fight for his place, you kick him tomorrow and then when he comes back, he will look decent again. It was ever thus with him.

I think we can all frankly say, the purple patch is over.

Good ol' Hafeez back again. :moha

Yup he peaked too early and with WC coming up this is really worrisome

Very worrisome. He's guaranteed to be in the squad for the WC as no-one will take his No.4 spot. With this form in the UAE will be more of a problem then a solution for Pakistan.

He is too old now. His official age is 40, and he will be 41 by the time of the World Cup. Most likely he is a few years older. We cant expect much from someone his age.

the guy has been a torture for 3 decades. He will hit a meaningless 50 against WI to cement his place in T20 WC not that it is under any threat anyway
