Is Shoaib Malik the best ever Pakistani T20 batsman?

I am strictly talking about T20 cricket overall, domestic plus International cricket.

He has an average of 38 with the bat in domestic T20 cricket, which is amazing. While 27 with the bat at International level, which is not bad! He has decent S/R as well.

He has also won some domestic tournaments for his team, where he contributed vitally for his team with the bat. He also played a crucial knock in the 2009 World T20I final, hence a World Cup winner as well.

In my opinion, he is our best ever T20 batsman.

Discuss.

Just got his first fifty in BPL. 63 from 30 balls. :D

I've always been a big supporter of him and a huge fan. He had a subpar PSL but I would definitely call him one of the best Pakistani T20 batsmen. Hopefully PSL 2.0 is a better going for him

He's basically on his way to be a Pakistani great if he isn't one already.

Always liked him as a LOI player. Ever since his comeback some while ago he's been great (so his average could be higher, would be great to know what his numbers have been post-return to the side). Definitely a solid number 5 you'd like in your team to finish things off in an innings.

Jokes apart, he did get a 200 against them in UAE. His Career could have gone a completely different direction had management persisted with him earlier in his career.

In that same innings England Dropped him 4 FREAKING TIMES well before he even reached 50 odd runs !!!!!!

Give 4 chances to any Batsman and I am pretty sure dross like Umer Akmal and Shehzad (although I doubt him) would make merry on a UAE phatta...

T20s yes, T20Is no. Before his comeback, he was averaging 22-23 with a SR of less than 110 for Pakistan. On the international stage, Umar Akmal has been our best batsman.

Malik is overrated. Never shows up when his team needs him. He can bash useless spinners and looks like a Tailender when batting against good pacers. He should stick to these little T20 leagues where can be an asset.

Personally I always thought that Misbah was our finest T20 Batsman

He probably was, as he grew older he changed his style of play to accommodate deteriorating reflex's. To be fair, he wasn't brilliant at rotating the strike but had a big tank of release shots.

Yes Shobby is.

He is one of the MVPs in world cricket as far as T20 leagues are concerned. He would've gone for good money in the IPL if Pakistani players were playing in the tournament. Shobby is called Don Malik for a reason.:malik

Shoaib Malik is a different beast altogether in domestic T20s. If you have Malik in your T20 side you would sneak your way into the semis at the very least (example of KK in the PSL :yk3)

He knows how to pace innings and accelerate at the correct moment.

However, Malik in international cricket is a shadow of his domestic self. He seems like a deer caught in the lights, unable to get bat to ball and often only nudges it around before holing out to deep mid wicket or long-on trying to up his strike rate.

Failed in the first IPL.

Like it or not Shobby is the most accomplished sportsman in Pakistan atm and is a role model for young kids who want to be cricketer s or even want to pursue other sports.

He teaches you how to carry yourself as a person and no matter how much you achieve, to still stay humble. Something you don't learn from the Afridis, Akhtars and MoYos.

Pcb should kick itself for losing and backstabbing a young Shob who was about to hit new heights as captain.

Wait a minute wait a minute so all of the following have God forbid deceased or moved out of Pakistan:

1. Imran Khan
2. Javed Maindad
3. Wasim Akram
4. Inzimam ul Haq
5. Waqar Younis
6. Shoaib Akhtar
7. Saqlain Mushtaq
8. Jahangir Khan
9. Jahansher Khan
10. Sohail Abbas

He's a very good t20 player and one of the better ones Pakistan have produced. I'll say he edges ahead of Misbah for best t20 Pakistan have produced.

Shobby is a current sports star, everyone you've mentioned is pretty much retired.

I'm talking about current times.

It's easier for a kid to take a role model who is currently playing obviously than retirees. It's why Akhtar looked up to Waqar or Wasim more than Fazal, because he witnessed them live.

Yeah, easily the best and he has been a success in nearly every league.

Akmal is the best in internationals.

In his prime, he was very good. He could hit big against any one. Then he grew older and lost his reflexes so he couldn't do it against pacers anymore and the pressure of captaincy got to him. I still say he was unfairly sacked as T20 captain. He has a fine record as T20 captain.

Shoaib Akhtar is a joke and no way near a role model. Imran Khan is probably a globally recognised role model and that's really the only name I'd have for Pakistan, with Misbah in there too no doubt. Both accomplished and have taken Pak to great heights.

Are you crazy?

Ask any young kid and he would say he wants to bowl fast like Akhtar. The 90s generation (the one that I grew up in) was all about Wasim and Waqar if you were a bowler and Inzi and Anwar if you were a batsman.

No kid aspires to be like Misbah, unless all he has in mind is to tuk the ball.

Yea and in mine it was to bowl like Asif or Akhtar; Bat like YK or Moyo; Hit sixes like Afridi; Field like Kaif; And of course, to captain like Malik.

Shoaib Malik has represented Pakistan in 446 international matches, became the first Pakistani batter to score 1000 fours — in 482 innings — in T20 cricket. While doing so, he became only the eighth player in the history of cricket to achieve this milestone.

He also completed 400 sixes in the shorter format and became the only Pakistani to have done that so far.

He is still fit enough to be a part of the World Cup 2024.

What do you guys say? Is it time to call him back into the team or is it too late now?

Selecting Shoaib Malik now is not logical. He is 40+. Better to find new guys and groom them.

Malik's international cricket should have been over after 2009. The fact that he has played for so long is a joke.

Mentally boomed when he should have been in his prime after losing captaincy from 2009-2015. Was frustrating seeing him dominate in t20 leagues around the world and then look like a tailender in internationals.

Finally got over it when it was too late and he was too old, when he bashed some spin attacks down the order and couldn’t play pace anymore.

Captaincy ruined this guys career. It still turned out ok, but it should have been so much more.

Best T20 batsman was Umar Akmal no matter how erratic he was when in groove he smacked Johnson Malinga Morkel , while rest of our batsmen got schooled

Shoain Malik's time is over. His game against spin was worth mentioning here and he can teach this art to the young batters of the country.
