Will definitely be remembered fondly for an amazing final and 1 decent semi. To the ICC's credit I criticise them a lot but the bat/ball balance in this tournament was absolutely fantastic, even better than 2011 almost. [Played a gigantic role in this WC having some great games.
All in all a very solid world cup, but I'll get slated for saying this, but it'll hurt the game long term.
ECB will bank on this final now and remain locked behind a paywall for years to come imo, the ICC will take it as a green light to continue with this awful format for 2023 and the sport will suffer massively for that, even if none of the people on this forum seem to care.
There's now a strong strong likelihood that Ireland,Scotland,Zimbabwe, Netherlands etc will go over a decade without a world cup appearance. I'm sorry but its hard for me not to feel disheartened. the 2019 cricket world cup did not deserve the final it got, and now all the faults and issues with a 6 week long group stage where the favourites all breezed through and pretty much stayed in the top 4 the entire group phase will be forgotten.
People have no idea how important it is. 1 world cup game generates more media attention in fringe nations than a thousand bilaterals combined. Realistically as the dust settles on 2019 I have to deal with the fact that I may not see Ireland in an ODI world cup until I'm in my thirties, if ever again. Considering how good we were in three consecutive events its hard not to be galled by it and I'll always view this WC with sadness due to it tbh
