Is this grains 'opening up' or something else? (pics included)

Hi there I have a CA PLUS 15000 Limited Edition. First of all, I've had this bat a couple of months. I have FULLY knocked it in with gray nicolls deluxe mallet for at least 7 hours. I always knock it in the odd 20 minutes here and there today when I get chance too. I then played it in with some underarm throw downs, and then onto the bowling machine. I have been netting with the bat for the past 2 months and it has been decent. However, the performance has considerably decreased over this time. Right now, it is dead as a dodo. It sounds horrific, very tinny and brittle and it's absolutely useless. At the beginning of it's life it sounded superb and the ping was great.

I have pictures of what I believe to be the cause. There is something going on along one of the edges. Is it 'opening up' of the grains? or is it something called 'delamination'? The vertical running line is extending every time I use the bat. It runs a good 7 inches up the bat, although difficult to tell from pictures. I am hoping someone can tell me what's going on, and the best course of action.

As you can tell, I am extremely disappointed with my situation after putting so much time in, preparing the bat, being very patient and making sure it was ready for use, as well as paying decent money for the bat. I haven't done anything whatsoever to cause any damage to the bat.

Link to pictures over there --->> Thanks. https://imgur.com/a/k0Vxc

Its not delamination dont worry. Its just bad luck and a split in the grain which is common. Personaly i start crying when if that happens but im sure most will agree its no big deal. You have knocked the bat in plenty so assuming that you did it vaugely correct a possible culprit is that the willow is over dried...

Thanks for replying. Crying? I wish people could see me right now :po: The bat is full on dead, yet in great condition which makes this a big deal. Just like that. Absolute waste of my time and money.

Its hard to tell withought seing it but in the past iv given a little extra oil so soften it a bit as so etimes they are just massively over pressed. Not good

Yet another indication that in order to achieve big fat bats with huge edges in light weight, CA over dries the willow and hardly gives a factory press to the cleft.
Their handle technology is already shaky and they enjoy one of THE WORST customer service award. I have never been a CA bat fan.

You are always better off buying a super bat made by a reputed bat maker in UK. These guys usually don't pull cheap tricks on you to make an eye popping bat. They care about moisture content in the willow and will give it a genuinely good press to make a great bat that you can trust your investment with. If a high end cleft gets damage during the factory press they will remove it from the lot and mark it down. These guys know what they are doing and they proudly stand behind their products.

True free bird. Ca do make some awsome bats but most are like u said. Massively overdried and often overpressed

Over pressed is in contradiction with other points.

I'm guessing to achieve the big bats they very lightly press plus over dry them hence why people say they break after a while.

it is very unusual for a bat to go "dead" without any visible damage. have you checked the toe (under the toe guard), and the handle?

No damage anywhere except whatever is going on in the pictures. Already did take the toe guard off and re-glue it to check as you suggested. No damage anywhere. Maybe I should just whallop it with bat mallet for few hours as hard as I can. Help I am clueless....

CA 15000's are notoriously bad because a lot of them were put into production far too quickly after Gayle scored a lot of runs with them. Seems you might have just got unlucky here man.

Thanks, that's insightful

if you watch some videos from jason mellet on youtube. you can tell that the ping on the CA bats doesn't always sound too great. i think they're unreliable so youve got to go to the store and try out the bat for yourself

I have a ca12000 that broke after a few nets. The willow is over dried and underpressed so where the ball hit the toe it left a huge indintation. Even a brand new unknocked in bat would fair better.

Of course CA didn't want to know. From now on I'll buy English and Indian bats.

Never knock in the CA middle - whatever ping there is it will go dead after a while.

Just concentrate on toe and edges.
